LISA |OT|

17 hours played in 3 days. I wish the story had a little more resolution at the end but it was a fun ride. I think the best way to describe this game would be to call it a mix of salad-fingers, hotline miami, japan and borderlands. It has a lot of problems but it was still an awesome game and my personal GOTY so far. And that means something on December 19th.

Looks dope. Never played Earthbound but I could clearly see the influence from the trailers.

man everything in this game is so inspired by Earthbound, it's like what if Nintendo made a M rated Earthbound game. Even the music sounds inspired by it at times haha

I guess I'll hop in. I was hoping to do a video to show this off, is there a short (~15-30 minutes) section that shows off the game well, better than the first half hour, anyway? (I usually do short first-impressions sort of stuff, but that's not always ideal for RPGs) From the length it seems I won't be able to finish it before I want to make a video.

i just watched an interview with the creator talking about how earthbound inspired him so greatly and actually changed his life.

hard to say. it does take a while to get going though so would agree with not showing the first 30 mins of the game. i can't say which part of the game was my favourite though since i loved the whole thing. maybe id show the wally part of the game just because it's so weird.

i'm dying to talk about this game in proper gaf fashion. anyone else beat it?

I just finished it last night.

I was kinda disappointed some of the subplots just kinda tethered off. Like I thought there'd be more to explain why Buzzo was doing all that to Brad, but he just vanished. Really intense endgame though, and when you see Marty again it's like "Ohhhhh shit"

Definitely going to pick this up on Wednesday when I get paid. It definitely appeals to my humour and the whacked out soundtrack is pretty great from the bits I've heard so far.

if you'd like to know more about buzzo:

more about him is revealed if you beat the game without taking any joy. he was an assistant to the scientist that created joy. which was originally being developed as a military drug. he's probably exceptionally strong because he takes some sort of drug for strength himself. he hates brad (and this part seems to be mostly conjecture) because he was a childhood friend of lisa and he sees brad as being partially responsible for her suicide because he couldn't protect her from marty.

Ohhhh wow okay I did miss that.

Finally got around to beating Lisa tonight. I didn't enjoy everything about it, but it definitely had it's moments. Buzzo is a character I'm going to remember for a while.

Youre tearing me apart, OP
I came in here to make that joke.

Oh well, I still will.

I shall refrain until this issue is sorted out.

I mean, technically it has complete ingame controller support (but not for settings menus and such), but you'll need to remap everything (there's a menu to do this in the game), and the controls don't particularly make sense no matter what way I map 'em. It's doable but I gave up and used keyboard.

I wrote a review: http://www.relyonhorror.com/reviews/review-lisa/

I loved the game. I entered with no experience with RPG Maker and the game's tech limitations didn't bother me as much as it did RPS (that post ...). It's definitely a game that won't hold your hand, adhering to older-styled gaming conventions, but it's not super difficult. If it was, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it so much. It felt pretty well balanced.

It has a fantastic story, and it manages to be depressing, humorous, and disturbing so effortlessly. It made it to my top 5 GOTY games.

I enjoyed the game.
Really had a lot of fun and I also appreciate the fact that the game doesn´t let me take a third option with sadistic choices.
I also really liked the part where
Brad had to Wrestle
.

Totally gonna grab this later tonight. I did play the "first" Lisa a couple years before and thought this seemed/looked a bit familiar.

Couple hours in. Not sure what to think so far. Like the art style, music, and some of the writing. The one-hit kills on party members is a bit irritating, but still enjoying :p

Question about companions/opening areas:

Is it better to leave your starting companions or totally up to you, etc? Currently have Terry and Nern in my party. Level 11 right now, about to use the firebomb against someone.

im pretty sure terry never gets better but i accidently traded him to the thugs early on. whoops :P. i just stuck with the same three for most of the game (olaf, maddog, beastman) but depending on your choices some will invariably die forcing you to swap in other people.

Cool, thanks.

Terry was taken by thugs when I slept at a bonfire but I just reverted to previous save :P

Started playing this on my Mac last night inspire of it not having decent controller support ended up playing it till 1 or so. Nern is currently my favorite party member encounter. Currently it's a great gamers game.

"his wife was a soft 6, but mine was a hard 4" is still one my favourite quotes from the game.

Question. Should I start off playing on Normal Mode or Pain Mode? Does Normal Mode feel like less of an experience than Pain Mode? Am I going to be missing a bunch of context if I play Normal? Or is Pain Mode just Normal Mode with extras?

i dont even remember modes, but i think i played normal and it a good level of difficulty.

The creator of the game is quite the badass!
Is that the drunken master style? Amazing stuff.

Game developer, Austin Jorgensen, does this on the side.

Great review! Not many games with dark comedy. Got the game, and just need a gaming drought to give this full attention. How long is it? (shorter, the better)

Just finished this game – legitimately one of the best games I've played in the last few years. I hope it continues to sell at whatever word of mouth pace it takes, as it deserves more than 2 pages on GAF.

Agreed. It pains me seeing so many people overlook this game.
