The Intel® Compute Stick is a new generation compute-on-a-stick device that’s ready-to-go out-of–the-box and offers the performance, quality, and value you expect from Intel. Pre-installed with Windows 8.1* or Linux, get a complete experience on an ultra-small, power-efficient device that is just four inches long, yet packs the power and reliability of a quad-core Intel® Atom™ processor, with built-in wireless connectivity, on-board storage, and a micro SD card slot for additional storage. It’s everything you love about your desktop computer in a device that fits in the palm of your hand.

This could be great as a low cost retroarch machine or just to stream pc games from your main PC

how are we supposed to interact with Windows on a stick? Thats the biggest problem right now. Windows 8.1 does not have media center mode anymore.

Pretty cool. If it performs alright, makes it way easier than fussing with platform-specific emulators and xmbc apps for the famed "emulator box" people seem oddly interested in having (PCs output from HDMI too but whatevs)

I think there's at least one third party thing that lets you control Metro with xinput

Damn smart decision to release a cheaper $89 linux version too. Perfect for a streaming steam machine.

So, for those primarily wanting to emulated 5th gen and below, this totally DESTROYS any other android console box or stick, right?

so when intel says this it's AMAZING but when i say it on dates i get laughed at? this is BULLSHIT

Hopefully this is powerful enough to stream video and audio. I was just thinking about setting up an old laptop or something as a htpc for my parents. But this would be perfect.

Weird that Intel is selling actual consumer products now. I thought they only did parts?

I want this. I transformed my Chromebook into a Steam streaming device but this sounds way easier and better.

I think I'd rather get that Razer Android console since my primary use would be for streaming PC games to it

It doesn't say so in the text, but that's a USB slot on the left, isn't it?

I think it's normal and mini usb.

edit. It's micro-usb but it's for power.

The Compute Stick has Windows 8.1 with Bing pre-loaded, and it features a quad-core Bay Trail processor backed by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The dongle can plug into "any HDMI display," Intel says, so long as power is supplied via Micro-USB. The chipmaker eventually plans to power the device solely through HDMI, but that's not a reality yet.

for movies, it will be perfect for sure, because Atom's have support for Intel Quick Sync... my atom tablet takes 3%-4% of cpu to decode 1080p movies.

not sure about emulators though, graphics suck but who knows really.

Wut!

This could be amazing!

But how will I use controllers or remotes with it ?

I guess installing something like PC remote would work to an extent, but dunno.
I suppose there's no way to use x360 pads right?

Oh, regular USB port. So, USB hub etc..

I want one

Has a USB port, you can plug in a wireless KB + Mouse.
That is how I control my Gamestick.

Anyways, looks pretty rad. Cheap HTPC solution.

Edit: Thread title should say reveals, since it is releasing sometime this year.

Gonna need to know how much ram this thing is packing. A part of me thinks they'll screw it up and only do a gig, or something.

But this could be a really interesting Kodi/Xbmc stick. I really want to see some performance stats.

Is it cherry trail?

If so megaton
seems like it, unless I'm mistaken and the Atom Z3735F is not a cherry trail.

a big usb and a small usb. The small one is the power supply for the system and the big one can be used to plug in a hdd or usb hub.

Cheap one is 90$ with 1GB RAM, 8GB eMMC. Bigger one is 150$ with Windows 8.1 and 2GB RAM on a 32GB eMMC.

Memory can be expanded by microSD card up to 128GB.

Well it's just normal usb connector so it should work just like in regular pc. Just add a hub for more.

Get a powered USB Hub and go nuts; limited by only 120 something devices; you could have ethernet, controller, keyboards, drawing tablets, printers, card readers, you name it...

Amazing idea.

Super low cost Windows machines are still a little rocky but in a few years this and lot of the recent sub $200 Windows tablets could be amazing.

2gb RAM, It''s either running cherrytrail or what the HP Stream 7 has, this what the hp Stream can do with the Atom Z3735G and 1gb of ram:

Some examples of what a $99 tablet can do (HP Stream 7):

Half-Life 2
PPSSPP
Skyrim
Crysis
TF2
Fallout 3
Counter-Strike: Source
UT3

2GB, someone quoted it above.

So let me get this straight, this is basically a pc on a small stick? Would love to connect my hard drive, download vlc, and play my mkv files.

Make sure anyone that buys this uses an HDMI extension cable to connect it or you will most likely damage your HDMI input over time. They input isn't designed to support anything that heavy.
