Edge?

Hhahahahahahahaha :D

Thread titles can make or break a thread, oh well - would have gone with the original IGN title.

Curious when we are going to see this and Phandom Dust.

Yeah I like how this is all IGN's fault, though clearly IGN didn't write the title of this thread.

i'm thinking that, in the world of 'japanese cult classic exclusives', scalebound is simply ms' answer to bloodborne. can't blame them for wanting one...

I wonder if we can still call ourselves that. For an enthusiast forum, there is a distinct lack of enthusiasm whenever a game is discussed, or it is easily counter-balanced by cynicism.
I suggest we change the Neogaf motto "Believe" to "Meh". :P

lol so true.

Serious question, what does Lobb mean when he asks "What does Microsoft do well?", because I'm not sure.
Online? Open world?

What does Platninum do well?

Make games that dont sell.

What does Microsoft do well?

Kill great studios.

Uh oh.
I have to agree with this...
Platinum games can make the best game ever but if it doesn't sale to save themselves than it would hardly get noticed or remembered by the mass audience but I have to wonder how much they care about since they already got paid for making the game.

I think Microsoft is hoping to use Scalebound as a "Trump Card" to get Japanese Players to buy an XB1 but as Bayonetta 2 showed us people aren't exactly rushing off to buy a new console to play a Platinum games so I don't think is going to work.

I'm torn, I don't want a XB1 anytime soon but I hope Platinum finally gets there huge franchise that sticks around for 20+ years.

there is no saving x1 in japan unless ms actually start giving a fuck again.

both scalebound and phantom dust are aimed at the west.

Here we go on the hype train. Why are Xbox exclusives always hyped so much? Like they were saying titanfall was the second coming of Jesus.

I dunno, did even Lost odyssey and friends sell that well in Japan?

I consider them a success compared to what we have now. Now we don't even get ports. The situation is all time terrible and will only get worse as long as MS only acknowledge US and UK as their market.

Has more to do with the devs making them tbh... Platinum and the team at Respawn make great games so the hype is high sky, same with Destiny and Bungie.

It's not xbox exclusives that's hyped, but more the devs. Sunset Overdrive for example wasn't hyped that much, sure it turned out to be really good and it now gets a lot of praise/hype around it but a lot of people were pretty skeptical of it before hand.

only on NeoGAF could the idea of an huge action game from Hideki Kamiya with a big budget could be met with derision, snark, cynicism, and drive-by shit posts because its an Xbone exclusive.

Here's the time stamp of that "game of all time" quote.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JXs7HVXXmk#t=2630

I really wouldn't look into it too much considering he's laughing when he says it so he's obviously somewhat joking. Still, he does seem genuinely excited about it so I can't wait to see it in action.

Regardless, I hope this isn't something people take out of context and turn it into a whole thing. Wishful thinking though, I know.

There were like 7-8 pages of sarcastic comments based on that comment, lolz. And when all is said and done it turns out Ken Lobb was only joking? And the result is what we see below?

Yeah, okay

MS employee says exclusive will be good.

Isn't it too easy for a MS person to say that their game is the GOAT? That's like PR 101 ain't it? Not like he's going to call it average. :P

Well uh, there it is.

Is?

I believe you MS.

I mean....no...lol

Its a game made by Platinum Games. I have no doubt it will be an amazing game

Edit: not like monhun, interest -50%

So much impartiality.

Well Scalebound is automatically disappointing.

Thanks Ken you fucking idiot.

I see no details. All I see is vague, likely overzealous hype.

What does Platninum do well?

Make games that dont sell.

What does Microsoft do well?

Kill great studios.

Uh oh.

All talk, no show

tumblr_mt4rpgjKNb1qzp9weo1_500.gif

I'll believe it when I see it.

not a good idea to hype your game to the heavens

Sooo, what does Microsoft Studios do well exactly?

Lol this is what media said about Titanfall

Please be excite.

These are the kind of statements that causes games to be hated on. Why not just let the game speak for itself.

0% chance of that happening.

This quote will haunt them forever if it's anything less than stellar.

We know what P* does well...But what is it that MS does well? ...Online?? I don't really know.

Whatever man. I'm not gonna believe that spin on anything, even if it's Platinum. Stuff like this devalues the game more than anything.

See, this is why PR speak is stupid. We know it's going to be fantastic -- it's a Platinum game under the direction of Kamiya. So tell us you've seen more of the game, tell us it's going to be radical. That's fine. But "game of all time?" Fuck off.

The game will probably be great but that statement sounds hilarious... like they're trying too hard to hype the game.

That quote will haunt this game during its whole pre-launch.

He's telling us to raise our expectations to stratospheric heights, which isn't wise when consumers already feel they were sold a bill of goods in 2014.....AND even worse, no one believes him.

Why go there, man? WHY?

the point isn't that at all. the point is MS guys shouldn't be spouting out ridiculous stuff like that.

I don't doubt the game will be incredible BTW. but I don't think anyone is questioning that here.

Was not hyped before. This does not change that.

But have you SEEN Scalebound??

seems legit

Alright. What I'm gathering now is that mS seemingly just has bad PR or PR reps.

What is game of all time even meant to mean? I mean I'm fairly certain it is a game and will fall somewhere in the spectrum of all of time.

"But have you seen Scalebound?!"

Unless this plays very similarly to a previous game he's made, there is flat out no way it's going to be GOAT on a first entry.

Sure, but it's still major hyperbole. I mean, Lobb is a designer/director, so I understand that his hype might be more genuine than a figurehead like, say, Reggie Fils-Aime (who I personally can't stand in interviews), but it's still a really over-the-top statement.

So you think it will be the highest reviewed game ever? It would pretty much have to be to be the "game of all time."

That's the corner you get backed into with quotes like this. Then, if the game does underwhelm, next time Lobb tries to hype something up, he gets laughed at with quotes like "yeah yeah just like Scalebound"

I just don't understand what you gain with quotes like this, Lobb is setting up huge expectations that aren't really fair to Platinum....

Every game has the potential to be one of the greatest of all time. It just matters how much the developer/publisher wants to pour into it.

I'm waiting for that one time a PR guy is gonna say: "Oh yeah, that game is totally gonna suck." And everybody goes: "Well... shit..."

"Game of all time?" Sounds like something Sony would say back in 2006. Anyways its a silly thing to say because for some, GOAT can be something from past gens so yea.

Truly how unfortunate. Such statements are begging for critical backlash if the game fails to meet such an unreasonable target.

If you are going to get cocky and point towards the outfield seats, you better bring it like Babe Ruth. Given that Platinum is the developer, I would love to see them hit it out of the park but this is the last thing they need hanging over their development cycle.

I'm already disappointed.

I agree.

Hype levels will no doubt get even crazier now and if its not like getting 10s across the board or mass appeal from fans then its gonna hurt this game big time. He just should of said like "You'll love this if you enjoy their past games yada yada"

hyperbole alert.

Everyone knows the game of all time is subjected to ones opinion.

What has this done other than dramatically increase expectations? This game is gonna get ripped apart by people when it comes out. Good work lol.

PR gonna PR.

You'd think people in his position would learn how to not overhype things. Being underhyped is preferable.

Have you SEEN Scalebound?

Oh, dammit, of course that's what others thought of first.

Hah... Klobb's comment made my day!

PRBSS1: "Hey Bob, tell little Jimmy here how great our next game is going to be."

PRBSS2 (aka "Bob"): "Hey little Jimmy! It's going to be soooooo good! The best game ever!"

Little Jimmy: "Oh Boy!"

Note: PRBSS stands for Public Relations BullShit Spewer

What are Microsoft Studios bringing to the table? They're going to buy Platinum and force them to make yearly sequels?

Have you SEEN Scalebound?!?!

I think the game will be good actually. But Game of All time? How can they be so confident?

I love Platinum to death, but seriously?

C'mon, son.

Have you seen scalebound ?

that's what they said about Sonic Boom

"Has potential to be Game of all Time" is a pretty bold thing to say.

I think it is has the potential to be a game in time.

Not this shit again.

We've been through this with Titanfall last year and that quickly turned to nothing but a joke meme.

I'm still wondering about that thing MS does well.

Moneyhats?

Still trying to figure out what Microsft studios do well. Overhype games which causes them to end up disappointing is all I'm getting, or like someone else said, kill great studios.

Yeah, sure thing, Microsoft.

Get a taste.

Here we go on the hype train. Why are Xbox exclusives always hyped so much? Like they were saying titanfall was the second coming of Jesus.

I suppose he'll say that Forza 6 won't be horseshit also?

It's sad how fast the Xbox One related threads turn toxic.
Make a game of it

Look for xb1 thread title and make a guess at the post number where things go south

Beat your best score next time!

Pro tip : topics dealing with exclusive xb1 topics go south faster

Looking forward to this game

Serious question, what does Lobb mean when he asks "What does Microsoft do well?", because I'm not sure.
Online? Open world?

Spend money.

Platinum + Kamiya + childhood dreams realised + unprecedented budget = something worth checking out, I'd imagine.

I have to agree with this...

I don't think they remotely care about Japanese sales, the game looks like it's going to interest the western audience more.

It's sad how fast the Xbox One related threads turn toxic.
Prepare to see future Scalebound threads riddled with snarky "lol game of all time" "touted as second coming of Christ" comments.

I wait for this eagerly, it's nice for once to get Xbox game which you really can't tell what kind of game it ends up being.

i'm thinking that, in the world of 'japanese cult classic exclusives', scalebound is simply ms' answer to bloodborne. can't blame them for wanting one...

That's what I figured too. It's likely that MS sought Miyazaki for an exclusive first (Dark Souls did sell much more than the average Platinum game, regardless of quality) only to find out he was already on Project Beast. Thus, Platinum and Scalebound.
Those are of course tales from my ass.

It's sad how fast the Xbox One related threads turn toxic.

We all know how fast it takes for Playstation threads to turn to shit, the length of time till keit4 posts.

Oh snap

lol at IGN making articles out of podcast quotes, come on now...
He's excited about the game, so what?
Ken Lobb did a great thing by taking the time to do that podcast. He doesn't need IGN taking his quotes and putting it out there like it's news.
Shit like this is why most people in his position don't do cool things for fans like podcasts.
Pretty much. Though the "i'll believe it when i see it" posts are hilarious for a couple of reasons. One, i remember Bloodborn back when it was called "project beast" being hyped to the fucking heavens without even a hint of actual gameplay shown. Two, it's a game from Hideki Kamiya. He's shown countless times he can make amazing games time and time again so as i see it he deserves the benefit of the doubt dispite the fact that he is making a game on a console you don't like.

Really excited to see what Scalebound ends up being. Hopefully for a more action based game with MH style elements and throw in dragon/monster capture/training/evolution etc.

We all know how fast it takes for Playstation threads to turn to shit, the length of time till keit4 posts.

Oh sorry, i missed your post until it was quoted (you are on my ignore list, i wonder why :) ). I don't post in PS threads just to throw shit, far from it.

So much for details

Uh oh.

If you're trying to say Microsoft will do fuck all to market this game like every other publisher Platinum has worked with, I agree.
