Nintendo responds to why regular "New" 3DS is skipping North America

But in North America, only the XL is for sale. We asked the folks at Nintendo of America for an explanation, and here's the (non-)statement they sent over:

Different territories make their own business decisions regarding individual products and timing. We think New Nintendo 3DS XL makes the most sense for our market. Nintendo makes different systems at different price points for a whole range of consumers, and New Nintendo 3DS XL simply expands those choices even further.

So Nintendo, is it ever going to come out here?

We have nothing to announce at this time.

Completely insane that it's 2015 and it almost feels like the same "NO RAINBOW BUTTONS" Nintendo of America is dictating hardware in the west. I'm just glad we get only the XL over only the normal one, personally.

Ok, so we know NoA is completely responsible then.
People were quick to blame NoJ. NoA is ran by complete dummies.

I don't see how it could have possible been anyone but NOA's fault considering other territories were getting it.

I do kinda of expect the regular one to come a few months later or at least in time for the end of the year. Not that I'd wait and bank on it, but with the restriction lifted on transfers I can always shrink later, even if it'd be better to not do so in the first place (or jump UP to a larger one and appreciate the screen increase.)

I may very well be wrong, but is it possible that at this price point ($200?), NoA were afraid of being compared to a flagship phone under contract?
So "possibly" they count on the size to argue the difference for a portable game system?

Fucking shit. Thanks, NoA. I'm still probably going to end up getting the N3DS XL just because my normal 3DS is dying on me. :/

"Nintendo makes different systems at different price points for a whole range of consumers, and New Nintendo 3DS XL simply expands those choices even further."

So... not adding a choice adds more choices.

NoA at its finest.

Market research says the demand for "smaller" 3DS's is tiny. (look at XL sales vs normal after it's release). So they don't release the smaller variant.

Yeah this is bullshit. Stupid decision all around.

Just sell the damn thing as an Amazon exclusive or on the Nintendo page so inventory can be handled directly. If it's going to be niche, at least provide it for those who want it.

I think that it will release in November and replace the 2DS or original 3DS, and will be marketed heavily as the "must have" kids/girls toy of the 2015 holiday season. NOA/Testing probably associated it closer with a specific audience, and operate under the assumption that adults/teens do not want it. Bigger is better and all that.

I can understand that the smaller models tend to sell a lot less in comparison to the big XL models, but they should of really provided some option of getting the smaller version. If they were really concerned about low retail sales, they could have produced a small number of the normal N3DS and sold it through the Nintendo online shop.

I'm guessing that the 2DS didn't have the desire effect they imagined and came to the conclusion people don't go for the smaller, cheaper systems in the US.

Thanks Reggie.

Ugh. It's very shallow of me, but faceplates were the big draw for me. I'll just hold off for the next console.

This decision comes from Reggies office hell Reggie in the Direct announced the system. They must have market data to support this. Maybe retailers only want the XL since they have so much regular 3dsXL in stock.

I'm more interested in the "here's the device, figure out how to charge it on your own" issue

Ugh. Where did this trend of personifying an inanimate object by saying it is "skipping" something instead of saying its creator is not releasing it come from? It always give me this twitch in my neck.

I don't see the problem though. XL is better.

I understand not making a shit ton of them just to have them on shelves while people bought the XL, but I wish they'd compromised and let people order a US N3DS off their online store. I'd have been perfectly happy with that.

It might actually be a supply decision and they could be saving face*. Wait until holiday 2015 before jumping to conclusions.

Or they have data that suggest there are people out there who would buy the NXL, frustrated that the N3D isn't out, then buy the N3D on top of that if it were released later, but that there are less people like that who would go the other way.
