Where do you draw the line? What does a company have to do to lose your business?

One of the fortuitous things about becoming a PC gamer is that it gives me a wide breadth of choice w/ regards to available games. At any given moment I could chose from many thousands of titles spanning over 25 years. My cup runneth over and if you count emulators, I'm absolutely swimming in a sea of games. This has afforded me a slightly better bargaining position that one that I've been given in the past. When I played games elusively on consoles I had to put up with whatever horse shit console makers saw fit to subject me to. From $100 WiFi adapters to $60 yearly subscriptions required to access media apps such HBO Go and Netflix (subscriptions I already pay for). Console launches are particularly brutal because for the first several months (couple years) of a consoles life you're slowly drip fed titles whose quality is often highly debatable.

While I miss out on quite a lot of stuff (though I do intend to someday buy a Wii U after a price drop) I really don't mind. I've got more than enough to play. So, when a company like Nintendo decides not to include the charging adapter with their New 3DS I can issue a principled middle finger and say "Fuck you."

Fuck you Nintendo. I was holding out on the 3DS and finally decided to buy one with the release of the N3DS. Now I'm not buying one? Why? Because fuck you that's why. I don't care if the adapter is $5 or $25. Suck a dick. Maybe I'll buy one used. What I'll play instead: Emulators on my phone.

Fuck you Ubisoft. You can't release a game that runs at a steady frame rate even with quad-SLI GTX-980s? You aren't the only game in town when it comes to shallow third rate open world snore fests. What I'll play instead: literally anything.

Fuck you DICE/EA. On many, many levels. What I'll play instead: Counter Strike: Global Offensive

CD Projekt Red: You're cool. <3

Classy.

Personally, very few companies have lost my business, but EA definitely did, I don't buy or play anything they have released since BC2 and it will stay that way. Each year they somehow keep fucking up so it doesn't seem to be a bad decision.

Ubisoft seems like they do it on their own, I feel bad because Rayman looks great but I just don't want anything to do with that company either.

Capcom "kinda did", but I still buy a few of their games.

The 3DS doesn't come with a charger? Does it run on AAs or something?

Edit: Just saw the other thread. That's pretty chintzy. It also comes across as them thinking the device won't actually expand their user base. "Only current DS users will buy it anyway." =/

I don't usually get into irrational things when it comes to products, but some crazy thing like an association with a number of totalitarian regimes in the world might probably do that.

Maybe video games do make people violent. You people shouldn't be getting this angry at what are essentially toy companies, just ignore the products of a company you don't like.

I heard the N3DS doesn't come with a charger in other areas, but did Nintendo really think they could pull that shit in NA?

Nintendo started losing my business in 2006 when they started making shit hardware. Haven't enjoyed a piece of Nintendo hardware since the Gamecube.

That's what I do. I'm not talking about the company as a whole, maybe I made it seem that way. I'm more or less talking about individual products. Far Cry 4 for example. I could take or leave almost everything else Ubisoft puts out. I'd like to play Far Cry 4 but the game is a mess on PC. I won't buy the game because I'm not confident the game will ever be fixed. If it ever is, I will buy it.

I guess my overall point is that it's now become very easy to write off a game or product. Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm just over the concept of "must haves." Nothing is a must have. I won't change my expectations or violate other demands just so that I can play a game or two that I might want to play. Some might just shake their head and tell me I'm missing out. Maybe I am, but it doesn't feel that way. I missed out on every Wii game because I refused to buy that console for a number of reasons. I would have liked to have played Metroid Prime 3, the Galaxy games, and Zelda, but I refused to do it on a console that didn't meet my standards/expectations at the time. My patience has been rewarded by the fact that now I can play those games on Wii U. At least now I can play them at 480P without needing an impossible to find cable.

As long as Nintendo continues to make Wii U games I want, I will buy them

But as long as the regular version of the new 3DS is not available in America, I will never be buying a 3DS.

Either lie to me (Bungie), produce a terrible product (Ubisoft), or mess with the formula for a game that I love (343 Industries, although all is forgiven now).

Well I don't entirely skip companies just parts of their business.

For instance I certainly won't be getting Sony's next handheld or any TV, Laptop and or phone of them due to past experiences but that won't stop me from getting a PS4 somewhere down the line.

Unless a lot changes I won't bother with a Nintendo homeconsole and I certainly won't upgrade to a N3DS for a handful of exclusive titles.

Also I won't ever read a man(wha)ga from Im Dal Young again after the shit he pulled in pretty much all his series (Freezing, Aflame Inferno, Legend of Maian, Onihime VS,...).

Nintendo lost me when they didn't have a proper online system setup. PSN and XBL are on a different level when it comes to online.

You just reminded me of my 100 wifi adapter and then the 110 125gb hard drive that I bought a week before the 250 gb was announced for a similiar price. What memories those bring back. I think it was the first two times ms made me ask "what da faq".

What Microsoft did with the reveal and attempted DRM of the Xbox One. I knew things were getting bad near the end of the xbox 360's life cycle with some of their practices, but the Xbox One reveal was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I believe in second chances and try not to get upset at the little things. However, when you sell me a lie, don't own up to it, and act like you did nothing wrong and blame someone else, then you'll get on my bad side. Gearbox has completely lost any business from me after the mess that was Aliens: Colonial Marines. All the demos and previews were straight up lies and they tried to sell it like nothing was wrong.

I drew the line with Microsoft with RROD. Selling a known lemon for $649 AUD and a >40% defective rate is despicable.

I know there are good games, but there are good games everywhere so I go where the hassle is minimised. Sony is stomping on thin ice due to a combination of shit customer service in Australia, and frequent network issues.

I have lots of entertainment options. If certain companies try to pull shady shit, it's pretty easy for me to spend my money elsewhere.

So for a company to lose your business, they'd have to change the formula for a game you love. According to you, 343 Industries has done this, but you've forgiven them? Then that didn't really answer the question the OP asked.

When they stop having games I want to play.

People's first mistake was thinking these companies ever gave a fuck about you...they want your money. You want their products. You give them what they want and you get what you want.

If they don't have what you want, you don't fucking buy it and keep it moving.

the day this industry tried to humanize corporations is the moment this whole miasma of negativity and bullshit started.

Companies don't give a fuck about you.. none of them do. Its up to you as a consumer to decide if their products are worth the money at the end of the day....

I'll buy any game that I find fun or enjoyable, regardless of company.

However, gross DLC practices make it harder to love a game sometimes, like the dying light 'be the zombie' stuff. I'll be very cautious with battlefield hardline due to bf4's atrocious release quality.

I don't dismiss companies, but I will actively ignore terrible individual releases.

Nintendo has been omitting AC adapters from their consoles in Japan as far back as the Super Famicom. I can see them thinking it would be an entirely reasonable way to cut costs on a game platform after they lived with it for 25 years.

Can you explain why? If you don't mind .

On topic, Ubisoft as of late, at the very least I won't be buying any AC game. I don't think I'll be buying day one stuff from them like I did before .

Just pretty much how EA killed the love I had for Dead Space and BF4, though this time I'm gonna wait for a premium edition sale for BF5

I would have to know that they funded hate groups or support clubbing seals. I mean, just because they launch a product that sucks does not mean I will never spend another dime on them. I had quite the bad experience with a few 360s I owned back in the day and received some pretty terrible support. I would never buy another one but I bought a Windows laptop. I am not going to just write-off all MS products because I feel I was not treated that well. Same thing with Ubisoft. I got burned pretty bad buying Unity day one but all I learned from that is not to day one a product from them. Even if their next 5 games were horrible, if the 6th one came out and was just a spectacular game, I would buy it.

This kind of reminds me of those 99% protesters. They were outside my work (I work at the courthouse) and they were shouting for this and that, that they don't support big corporations etc, and most of them had Nike shoes on and were fiddling around on their IPads and smartphones that were made by another country. I mean, if you are going to take a stand then you pretty much better grow your own food, make your own clothes and buy a horse for transportation. Most companies are in it for the money. They have to market themselves as being for the consumer but if there is a shortcut they can take that yields them more profit but short changes the buyer, most will opt to do that. If they get caught they do a mea culpa and show some crocodile tears and after 6 months it is forgotten. BP caused one of the worst disasters ever and is anyone here not buying gas that comes from them? Do we even know which gas companies used BP products?

Something that never actually happened broke the camel's back?

If they sell a game I want to play, I buy it. I'm not going to pretend that there's some sacred trust between the company and myself. Flipping my shit because of what someone says or a policy they implement isn't going to happen.

On disk dlc? Sure, I'll buy the game if I want it, and I have no problem with the practice anyway. Owner says his customers are pieces of shit dirtbag idiots? I'll buy the game if I want to play it. Who gives a fuck.

So the New 3DS XL is launching at the same price as the current 3DS XL, $199. If it launched at $209 with a charger, would you be chomping at the bit to buy one? Coming from a PC point of view, most of Antec's power supplies don't come with power cables any more. Do you completely avoid that brand?

Not to go too far OT but IDY almost always pulls some NTR or forced humiliation play (freezing) in his series and tends to abandon them for new series which he abandons for new series,... you get the point.

Aflame Inferno and Legend of Maian haven't been updated in 3 years, Onihime VS one of his better series he just ended,... all the while he started 2 new series in the past 2 years.

For me to completely boycott them, regardless of what they're planning to put out? They have to literally start kicking puppies.

Honestly, I don't really boycott game companies, though I do approach some with more caution if they do something I don't like.

I stopped buying Nintendo's home consoles since the Wii. If the their next home console is anything like the Wii/WiiU, I'll be skipping it again.

Straight up lies and paying for expensive stuff that does not deliver...that's where I draw the line.

Bungie/Activision - Blacklisted because they lied about what Destiny was and it even looks like they cut content from the original release because that was the most barebones piece of shit fullpriced game i've ever played.

Pioneer - Bought a $600 cd player for my car (over 10 years ago) and it shat itself 30 days after the 1 year warranty expired. First and last time I buy Pioneer.

Razer - Bought the most expensive mouse I could find (Mamba 4g) when D3 came out and this thing could not be used wirelessly at all. Even in wired mode it would only work about 70% of the time....the cursor would skip around all over the place. Had it for a few years but smashed it against the ground last week cuz I just got fed up with it. Bought myself a Steelseries Sensei Wireless a couple of days ago and this thing does everything I bought the Mamba for. So as far as i'm concerned Razer ticked both boxes....they lied about the tech in their product and charged me a premium price. First and last time for Razer as well.

That's it...no other companies are on my shitlist aside from EA and Ubisoft but I don't really buy their products unless there is a game I really really want so for Dead Space series and Rayman Origins I had to cave in.
