Was Uncharted 1-3 60fps? Because I sure didn't care when I bought all 3 of them with my PS3^^ Was perfectly playable and great games. So I don't care about it. It's a mass murder simulator anyways![]()
30fps single player
60fps multilayer
Naughty dawg pls
30 and 60 are the norm because of 60hz being the most common refresh rate on TVs and monitors. You can cut it in half and still avoid screen tearing and judder because you're simply displaying a frame twice instead of once, but random intervals doesn't work. Locking at 45 would make for a pretty juddery picture as some frames would be displayed once and some would be displayed twice.
And why should they? It's not like a game's framerate actually affects sales. The mass market couldn't give less of a shit about a game's framerate. If ND would rather prioritize visuals and gameplay at 30fps, that's their call and more power to them. Why should they waste time conpromising their vision to appease a vocal minority? In other words ND confirms, that they and nobody else cares for the gameplay of the Uncharted's Single-Player-Campaign. It's all about the "experience".
Ideally. But eh...60fps everything.
Just be unlocked with 30 lock as an option if you can't target 60fps. Second Sun and Killzone Shadow Fall felt great unlocked. 45fps feels like a sweet spot when it can't be a full 60.
Did they ever promise it? Targeting 60fps is totally different than saying definitely 60fps. Maybe I missed it somewhere but I don't recall them confirming 60 definitively. It was always dubious, but ND really never should've promised that. People wanted to believe.
LOL! They should never said anything about aiming for 60fps, if they're not going to do it.
So you are arguing that devs should just appeal to the lowest common denominator for the purpose of sales? And why should they? It's not like a game's framerate actually affects sales. Because accusing people of stuff they didn't do is meaningful discussion, right, got a problem with me, stop being a backseat mod and take it up with a real one.
I'm just calling out ND on their bullshit, shouldn't have said the stuff they did and then go back on it.
Whatever dude. Options are better than none. That slider was a huge step forward for comsole gaming.Guess what happened with TLOU, they built the game aiming stable 30 and then only later saw the opportunity to unlock the framerate. They realised with UC4 they could not uphold the same or similar graphic fidelity at 60, so no they really don't fuckin need to support both.
"oh but they can downgrade the graphics to" yeah, that's a viable solution in a climate when people outcried the PSX day demo as a downgrade already
No. It's just some people completely overreacting and not reading all that well at gaf, which happens all the time.Did they ever promise it? Targeting 60fps is totally different than saying definitely 60fps. Maybe I missed it somewhere but I don't recall them confirming 60 definitively.
I agree with the hinting around 60fps for Uncharted 4... but, re. TLoU, of course if you take a game at 30 and the same game at 60, the latter is going to be much preferable to the former.
However, if you took TLoU, and cut it down to allow 60fps in the original game (on PS3), I'm sure many, and many Naughty Doggers, would have considered that even more 'broken' compared to the game as it could/would be at 30fps.
That's the decision they're faced with here - have 60fps or double the workload doable per frame. Which of these, if they were taken away, would have the smallest impact on the game they want to make?
60fps was absolutely to be expected for last gen port-overs. ND should never have muddled that into the conversation around U4 though, inadvertently or otherwise.

This is a common sentiment, but I don't think it's accurate. In a title on a console, a solid 60 FPS doesn't just "come together", you need to plan everything (including assets) around it from the start.Running at 37fps a year out. I think they'll be fine. Stuff like framerate comes together later.
The 'outcry'(a bit of an extreme word for it honestly) was because the original footage was never going to be lived up to yet people hoped it would. AND at 60fps. If Ubisoft had done something like that, they'd be crucified to hell and back for it.Guess what happened with TLOU, they built the game aiming stable 30 and then only later saw the opportunity to unlock the framerate. There's a loud vocal delusional contingent at GAF who believe that PS4 can have PC beating graphics at 1080p and at 60fps and you're a shit dev if you can't deliver.
60fps could only help a fairly fast paced game like Uncharted.
A constant 30 is acceptable, but far from perfect.
I wish companies went for less flash and more frames, but I am obviously in the minority.
Not visually impressive? Come on. And you didn't answer my question.
But reducing the framerate by half does compromise the player experience...
I don't think that's the case at all. But there were some people hoping it would be able to achieve bar raising graphics while also at 60fps because, well, that's basically what Naughty Dog said they were going to do. Don't blame the people here, blame the expectations that Naughty Dog themselves created.Drive Club devs did the same and the uproar in here was just the same.

LOL! I just remembered that we should supposedly have Uncharted collection releasing this year, with this news I'm guessing the collection wont be 60fps.
But Uncharted, THIS PARTICULAR FRANCHISE that doesn't represent gaming as a whole....is all about the flash.
It didn't get famous for revolutionizing third person shooters or having super smooth gameplay or having some of the best gameplay of last gen.
It got recognized for redefining the genre of cinematic games. For scenes like the chopper escape or the train segment.... scenes that gain FAR more from looking amazing than running at 60fps
I really hope they don't do this.Unlock the frame rate I say. Second Son felt better with unlocked frame rate. I think it's the way to go this gen if you can't hit 60.
Player experience encompasses a lot, and if we narrow the focus to the Uncharted experience, graphical fidelity is more important. Naughty Dog impressed everyone with the quality of visuals achieved and at a stable framerate. They probably find the uncapped experience far too jittery to be playable and or cant spend more resources in it.The 'outcry'(a bit of an extreme word for it honestly) was because the original footage was never going to be lived up to yet people hoped it would. AND at 60fps. If Ubisoft had done something like that, they'd be crucified to hell and back for it.
But true enough, they are probably choosing graphics over playability because that's what gamers seem to care about. The 'experience' being talked about here obviously isn't talking about gameplay experience, but cinematic experience. They need to push particle effects and everything, ya know, important things.

Once that weather patch hit, GAFers went out in droves to buy Drive Club, because of those purty 30fps graphics. It's all bullshit; people will buy UC4 because graphics, regardless of frame rate.Drive Club devs did the same and the uproar in here was just the same.
