But reducing the framerate by half does compromise the player experience...
As long as it's a locked and stable 30FPS I'm very happy with that. I'd rather them create magnificent set pieces and experiences for Drake rather than limiting themselves to 60FPS.
Sure.
Hes an ICE Team programmer who helped design the PS4 and all the internal tools and engines that power the PS4, doesn't he know that 60fps is "better"?
Sack him.
Ya know, most of us PC gamers still own and use consoles man.
I'd prefer 60fps but all the evidence says 30fps is just fine too for this franchise (I didn't notice U2 the best action TPS last gen being hurt by frame rate for example).
Guys. Guys. GUYS.
That "30 fps feels broken" statement was made in regards to TLoU itself. They said that after playing that game in 60 fps, dialing back to 30 feels wrong, most likely because you shift the expectations in your brain.
They didn't say 30 fps is INHERENTLY broken. Chill out.
As for me, really (REALLY) hoping for 60 fps, will be just fine with locked 30.
So what if it ends up being 60. Will there be some people pissed off they didn't make the graphics even better and lock it at 30?
I would agree. I just see those posts I linked of being of an extremely similar irrational sentiment. Is that too far of a stretch?
...So does insisting on 60fps if you can't do what you want to do for your game in 16ms/frame. What they're saying is that they'll plump for a lower framerate as the lesser of two evils rather than cut back on per frame workload that enables their design goals.
Everything else you mentioned is just there for more impressive graphics appeal, like I said. You're basically proving my point.
All things that would be completely impossible at 60fps, no doubt. Line of sight loss? Yea, that's a next-gen concept we've never seen before, totally. Sound reaction? Man, I cant wait til we see that in a game.Ok I can see you are lacking understanding of basic software/game design here outside of how many wows are rendered.
Talking about physics/dynamic actions like Line of sight loss, sound reaction, close qtr recognition, expansive world interaction from wind, Nate and NPC's along with bullets etc.
Not too mention the context sensitive and reactive animations based on location and proximity of characters. NONE of these things are "Graphics" as you try to put it as the demo was far more Function than form in play aside a few demonstrations of lighting, water etc (oh and inverse kinematics which most will never notice)
Never expected 60 even though they said that was their goal.
Bloodborne being 30 hurts more though.
Unlocked like Infamous was felt good. Hope they give us the option.
Yes. 60fps is a buzz word.
on topic: 30 fps compromises the player experience
TLoU felt better with locked 30fps anyway. I don't understand the hate

That's why I said I'd prefer 60fps. Some posts are perfectly sensible about 60/30 fos but way too many posts in here are eye rolling bad as though ND had made campaign lies and eaten babies with the usual embarrassing posts implying the demo is somehow shit now or earlier Uncharted games have somehow become embarrassments of coding. It wasn't hurt at all but the focus of some our arguments is that 60fps is objectively the more important goal for a medium that involves getting feedback from manipulating objects on a screen using a controller.

I get what you're saying, but I think its a bit naïve to think that Uncharted is going to be doing anything super special with all that spare performance capability other than pushing the visual wow factor.
Good, 60 fps is a gimmick. id rather have 3d
what a surprise guys.
Here's my shocked face :O
So much potential crow to be served in that "Naughty Gods" debate. Still tons of time for them to optimize to 60, they're totally not leaving themselves outs >![]()
I believe he means a shit game is still shit at 60. A great game is still great at 30.

oui, really don't see why people are freaking out now when there's a lot of time left in the dev cycle. Although I do hope for ND's sake that they make it 60 after all their "I dreamt in 60FPS last night" etc. Then again, if anyone is capable of making UC4 in 60fps, it's Naughty Dog.
UrbanRats said:However i'd rather eat crow and get a 60fps game, than win an internet argument (even though some of the "believers" were really obnoxious).
A great game is far greater at 60 though #greatnessawaits
See: TLoUR
Does the story change at 60fps?

I kindof suspected their 60fps goal wouldn't be that firm, especially after doing a 30 fps demo. Doing that level of optimisation late in a project isn't easy, and going back and downgrading the graphics probably won't be received well (and even that takes quite a lot of effort). Kudos to them if they do manage it though

I'm not freaking out. From the second we saw that teaser UC4 footage back in the day and they said 60fps I was like "lol nope." They ain't gonna do it![]()
