New Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer

Amazing! Game looks sooooooooo great, looks like the sci-fi game of my dreams

I hope it sells well

I feel you. I'm with you in the trenches in the FF threads. Nothing inspires more hyperbole one way or another like Final Fantasy. That being said, I'm all aboard both hype trains for this and FFXV in a way I haven't been for a game in years.
Seriously. Last gen for me was as limp as it could get. There was only mild hype (PSP games would make more excited than PS360Wii games). This gen is heaven in comparison.

Oh yeah, I really hope this one has some good dungeons since Xenoblade had some really boring ones, the only "dungeons" that I liked were
The Mechonis Field and the Central Factory
because the size and the complexity of the area but some of the previous ones were also massive but really boring (Looking at you Ether Mines and Tephra Cave...)
Yeah... I quite liked
Sword Valley
myself, with the side paths and stuff, but Xenoblade had very 'below average' dungeons. And yeah, Tephra Cave is really boring.

how can ff15 remind Xenoblade

I single out Xenoblade because it's in the same genre.

FFXV had a rocky development, and now that everything is back on track, The game is looking phenomenal. I'm not taking anything away from the game, but at the same time I see little things that pop out from the trailers that I haven't seen in a FF game before. The characters not only interact with each other [during gameplay] a step above Xenoblade's but now the enormous scale of the environments that was nonexistent in previous games is now front in center in this new version. I'm not saying there wasn't scale before in FF environments, but it used to be sections of decent sized areas. Not a see anywhere go anywhere type of world. Most JRPGS (if any) didn't do this. And FFXIII didn't attempt to this during the previous gen.

Obviously it's the natural course to go in certain directions, but nothing helps a developer get a grasp of where they want to go more than finding a developer that has already done it.

Personally I don't see being inspired by, or learning as a bad thing. I wish Xenoblade had FF's modelers, composers, and CG cutscene team. I wish Nintendo would learn how to use high quality voice actors.

I am sorry if it sounds like I'm bashing FF as a whole. I'm really not. It's more Square and their mobile company outlook for the future of their gaming business I'm lashing out more than their recent console efforts itself.

FFXV looks like a return to form and I'm all for it.

Between this, Bloodborne, Witcher 3, Persona 5, and Pillars of Eternity, it looks like we will have the tightest competition for best RPG of 2015.

I can agree with you on that. If I have to put up with one more "countdown timer" that reveals some shitty mobile game I might burn my house down. I hope FFXV is as awesome as it looks and sells like hotcakes. Anything to inspire them to get back to making things for anything but mobile.

I had no intrest in this game of WiiU but damn its so beautiful. Just proves that you don't need to be most technically advanced game to look good

The characters do look closer to Xenosaga....that style hasn't aged well but I see the intention
It's just that the models really haven't improved much since Xenosaga, which is a shame. The 2D art will be outstanding though, no doubt. Tanaka is ace

Anyone remember that GIF of the guy getting into the mech, then the Kill Zone footage shows, then the Xenoblade footage plays backwards? Because these GIFs stomps that Kill Zone one.

After actually playing Killzone, those gifs were embarrassing (the ones trying to make X look bad, I mean.)

This looks great. Do I need to play the previous one to understand this?

Probably not. All official word is that this is a game set in a completely different continuity from the previous title. As such, no prior knowledge should be necessary to understand Xenoblade Chronicles X. The connection in between the two games lies more in game mechanics and themes than story.

It looked bad back then though too.

Xenoblade's faces seemed a bit more toned down with the doll face thing. Why didn't they stick with that I wonder.

for me I thought Xenosaga III nailed it with character in 3D.
xenosagalegacycharacters-2.jpg

But I guess it's different since EP III is not by Tanaka Kunihiko...

At this point you guys will need to either get over the faces or not play the game or whatever.

If the game is coming out in April in Japan then it's pretty much done. They're not going to redo their whole face system.

So you'd best come to terms with it.
The complaining about Xenoblade X's faces is mild in comparison to all the "boy band faggots lolololotrololololol" stupidity about FFXV's characters or the "Vaan is a horrible girlyboy" morons.

Dude, the environments are like, so empty. There should be treasure chest, new items, monster, QTEs, and quests every ten feet. Just like in real life.

Well, the world is more dense outside of the US. I am opening a treasure chest as I am typping this :p

That being said, huge empty worlds with little to no lore / story inside of them is something that I can't stand in RPGs. The craze with " making it bigger" is nosensical. "Make it more compelling" would be a far better approach when designing a world, which is why I am pumped after seeing this trailer. Xenoblade's map oozes with character and style, let us all hope that there are interesting things to do and meat behind this style! :D

The game is confirmed for a 2015 in Europe dude so if it's specifically for this game you might be better waiting,

But I speak Japanese, dude. Hence I want (and I can) play the game in its original version. Dude. Why should I subject myself to the shriekings screams and flat interpretations of western voice acting?

Xenoblade C X had Rikiya Koyama bro. How can it be bad on VA?

I don't understand the empty complain..It don't seems less empty to me that most if not all others open world game released or coming so far when out of town.

the environment looks fantastic, but what is wrong with those horrendous faces? worst character design ive seen in years.

The word certainly got bigger, but it looked as dense as Xenoblade to me.
The biggest draw the world of XB had for me was more on an architectual level and not in a "there is stuff everywhere" kind of way.
I always thought the environments told a very distinct story by themselves without finded textdumps on walls.
Satori March for instance looked like an area that was ruled by lizard men (including a castle and all) even without the Nopon Quests that told you so.

People are complaining it's looking empty again.......

Wasn't that the same complaint pre E3 then the Treehouse demos showed how wrong that was yet it's a complaint again -_-

Almost feels like some people expecting every trailer to be a nature documentary or something of every creature all bundled together in the same field.

Hardware capabilities aside, I actually think the art style is far more cohesive in this game than what we've seen in XBC on Wii.

As cool as XBC was, it felt very clashy-clashy. XCX looks like a real place in comparison. Who would've thought they'd actually be able to step it up to this extent? Monolith Soft is brilliant.

I think it has to do with the more muted colors of XCX that help give it a more cohesive look. As vibrant as XBC was some of the areas were a bit abrupt in their transitions color wise, for example leaving Colony 6 into Sartorl Marsh pretty much goes from greenery to brown/grey or the vibrant night time colors in an instant.

That's not to say XCX might not have that but from the trailers so far the different areas seem to compliment each other a bit more.

Xenoblade C X had Rikiya Koyama bro. How can it be bad on VA?

First, I'm in NA

2nd, when I say VA for Nintendo, I mean everything except for Xenoblade

Luckily the European dub in the first game, hit it out of the park.
I can only imagine how bad it would have been if NoA handled it. Since Reggie is all about "costs" this past generation, I can't see them putting in the money or the effort.

That being said I'd be more than fine with english subs if it gets us XCX that much faster.

So I guess the "wait for more info later in 2015" means this is a fall game for sure. That's a shame, I was hoping I could spend the summer really getting into it.

Ok, after a day of letting my hype levels settle, here's were I'm at:

Firstly, oh dear gods those environments! There aren't that many games on the WiiU that make me think 'this couldn't be done on the PS3/360', but those vistas, the monsters, the scale! Damned incredible!

Secondly, yeah, those animations are bad. Floaty and completely out of sink with the speed of terrain running, stiff and robotic interchangeable movement, and a general feel of the characters being superimposed on the game world all make it feel a bit like a 6th gen game more than an 8th gen one. Has killed any hope I had for the combat to get an improved sense of weight and impact compared to the terrible looking examples we saw last year.

Finally, those are some fuck ugly character designs. I know it's shallow, but I really do prefer not to have to look at a bunch of minsters for dozens of hours if I can help it.

Overall, still super excited, but I can't help but be a little disappointed they didn't put as much care into the characters as they did the environments.

Still looks like concentrated love overall mind!
