DriveClub PS+ Edition Has Been M.I.A. For 100 Days

If anyone really cared that much at this point they should probably just buy the game. If you care, you will care that you want more of the game. You can get it for $30 almost anywhere now..

Edit: mods please close this thread, this is nonsense

I don't think we will. It's a legitimate discussion. Sony and Evo made clear, unambiguous promises to consumers, which they've reneged on for their own purposes. It's completely reasonable for people to be upset. If you aren't, or don't care to be involved in this discussion, I'd suggest you don't post.

More upsetting to me is that lack of information regarding when the PS+ version will be coming. In a way, I understand that they delayed the version in order to fix the base game. However, a little bit clearer communication and maybe some tentative time frames would be much better in alleviating the problems some have.

It's inexcusable to a degree regardless, but Sony/Evo really have been far too quiet on the matter.

Fair enough. If this is left out of every other DC thread that'd be cool. For once it would be cool to have DC threads clean of PS+ version whining.

Just because you decided to pony up the money for it (as did I), it doesn't make other whiners for being pissed about it. They weren't given what they were promised, it's been dead silent on when/if they'll get it, so they're upset. Blame Evolution for these posts, not the people that have been wronged.

2013:
The ps+ edition is such an excellent value proposition! Of course ill start paying you for muktiplayer Sony if Driveclub ps+ version is what i get in return! Such value!

After launch and after 12 mobths of PS+ has expired since the original DC launch date:
Wtf are you people complaining for? Its only a demo. Yiu literally bought PS+ subs for a demo you were promisrd? Just buy the game if you want it.

Hmm so......is the "PS+ platinum trophy editiin" actually something really cool and aeesome like it was originally advertised and recieved, or is it a fucking demo?

If its just a demo, what the arsebiscuits were Evo/Sony doing on stage telling us about how PAYING SUBSCRIBERS are getting a "free" fucking demo?

You cant have it both ways. Its either its the value proposition that paying subscribers never recieved or they went on stage and talked bullahit.

Both scenarios merit whatever bollocking customers are giving.

That's reasonable. If you will PM me a list of active DC threads, I'll add this thread to the OP. While it's reasonable to be upset, it's also reasonable for people who own the game to be able to discuss it without having to wade through the off-topic discussion about Sony/Evo's consumer relation mistakes.

Err.... no. They promised it because they though they could deliver and were not expecting problems.

You cant dont do things because things that you dont expect or dont know about. I must remember you that the beta worked as expected.

It's like if I promise I'll go to a friends town some afternoon and then that afternoon my car breaks for some reason. What should my friend do?

"Man, you primised me! You are a bad friend!"

Or what should I do?

"I cant promise you anything becasue there's a 1/10000 probability that my car brakes."

Unexpected plot twists happens, man.

I really don't mean this in a bad way, but you don't understand what a promise is. There was no qualifier on the dc ps+ announcement. It was announced as something you WILL receive as part of a ps+ sub on ps4. They didn't say "you will get a free ps+ version of drive club... unless some shit happens then maybe not".

We haven't gotten what they advertised and promised us as part of our ps+ sub. In layman's terms that's called false advertising. It also creates distrust among your consumers if you promise things you never deliver on.

But like I said this is far from the first time Sony has done this. They always seem to get a pass from the ps faithful and this time is no different.

Yeah I just want a regular demo to give it a spin. I don't need any online functionality. Just give me a track or two and a couple of cars to try. If I like it, I'll buy the game. Simple as that.

I can break the silence:

There's a bug somewhere in the code we can't track and fix and we are trying some workarounds while we keep researching.

Here you go.

EDIT

I'm not a developer. I'm not related in anyway to Evolution Studios.
Sorry for having said it this way.

It's just I have some programming knowledge, and it seems pretty logical to me that something like that is what is happening.

IS PURE ESPECULATION. Dont take me seriously.

Apologies.

Oh no, I understand completely the frustration of some folk. They are well within their rights to complain. This thread is a good place for them to vent. Hopefully someone at Sony takes note and says something regarding the PS+ version. Surely a status update or progress report of some sort. Estimates or Timelines now could be risky as to not piss off more people when the demo fails to make deadline.

Couldn't someone on Gaf try Shareplay and see if you like it? It's not the most ideal solution but it might help.

precisely why some people are waiting to try it out before commiting their money to it, with all the subscription services sony of all people are pulling out their ass, this gen is looking set to be one of the most expensive yet

That doesn't make sense in the context of my quote though, if it was about PRICE, as I pointed out - it's cheaper to buy the game at the current level of pricing commonly available with a little bit of looking than to wait for the PS+ version and then upgrade to the full version.

I understand that people are upset with multiplayer being locked behind a paywall. And people are upset that the PS+ version of the game is not out yet. I have no comment on either of those things, my previous post was aimed squarely at people wanting to get the game with their PS+ discounts. It's even cheaper to rent it for a day to see if you like it, and pick it up on sale somewhere later, than to wait for the PS+ discount.

I've never tried 'Shareplay' before and am not really sure how it works, but yeah, that would more than suffice for me. I just wanna mess with the game for an hour or so and see if it grabs me. If I like it, I'll totally buy it when it's at a decent price.

All these people that want to play the game SO BADLY but have to wait for the PS+ edition to make sure they like it, I wonder how they ever decide to purchase every other game that doesn't have trials/demos.

Well, with DC it's an interesting case. It's a game that by all accounts is kind of light on options and modes, and is very much a 'pure' racing experience. That's cool and all- but it means that one's enjoyment of the game is purely dependent on the handling. And as much as a lot of people love the game, some people don't. So I wanna give it a shot before spending money on it. I've bought plenty of games that have no demo, but a new IP racing game is a different beast.

I bought Driveclub for $60, despite being promised a PS+ version. I didn't care for it.

If they never promised a demo or PS+ version, I would just chalk it up as being an expensive trial. No big deal.

But part of the reason I was interested in the game to begin with was due to the promise of the PS+ version. I would have just filed DC in the "not interested" pile at announce. But since I knew I would one day get to try it as part of PS+ I followed the game and my interest grew.

So I feel misled. I think it a valid assessment. Yes, the purchase responsibility is my own, no one forced me to buy the game. But I find what they did to be deceptive, misleading and without integrity.

Is this considering whining? I hardly think so, but I'm sure it'll be called so.

Do you believe the game should have been delayed until these bugs could be found and fixed or did you believe at the time of launch that these were going to be fixed with a day 1 patch?

All this talk about how the game is MIA, I just want to say that the game is pretty damn great. The graphics gushing you see, it's no joke. This game is a thing of beauty that will have your jaw hit the floor. Don't stare too much at that those gorgeous tracks and excellent lighting though, because the game will pound your ass if you don't drive the way it wants you to. For me, there's been a ton of trial and error, but it feels damn good getting all the stars for an event. It really is worth the money, and Sony's biggest mistake was devaluing it by saying it'd be given as a Plus incentive. This game deserved better.

Yeah, they really shit the bed on this.

If they never promised the freebie, they would've sold a lot more copies of the game. I eventually buckled when it hit $40. But if they never mentioned a free version, I probably would've bought it at release for $60.

Shame too, as it's a damn good game, and one of the most graphically impressive games I've seen yet.

The thing is, the bug (or whatever it is) was discovered at launch. Beta was OK.
That's the main problem : /

Really would be nice to see. In a few more months, would probably be better to just release the retail version sans paid DLC though.

I'm super picky about my racing games so I'm still waiting for the PS+ version.

this month would have been nice as an addition to the ps+ titles since jan is typically a release wasteland.

if we see it, i'm guessing maybe in a slow month like summer.

Yep.

That said the game has been stable for a month or more now, so there seems to be no reason not to release this. I can see how people feel though, a free PS+ version at PS4 release would have been amazing. A year later it was already losing steam, and now after the game has been out for so long, it's more or less pointless as a value proposition.

A PS+ trial will encourage people to buy the full game should they like it.

You're off-base on this. It's something that's part of a paid service, and some feel it's not acceptable to work around a game's functionality issues by paying for it separately when they were supposed to have access to it in the first place. Not everyone will react the same way. A high-quality PS+ Edition is almost guaranteed to sell more copies of the game, assuming people enjoy it. That should be good for everyone, but if the game still isn't stable (the reason for the delay) then that suggestion to "just buy it" isn't something everyone will think is reasonable.

Thank you for posting and for that information.

Man, so much of the criticisms of how the game has been handled could be alleviated if you just had people saying things just like this to the gaming public. All people are asking for is honesty and openness.

Thanks again. Good luck on getting everything in the game patched up. Must be nice to see such an enthusiastic and dedicated core fanbase, despite all the problems.

Whenever anything Driveclub related is posted, half the comments are of people complaining that the PS+ version isn't out yet.

Anybody interested in the game should just buy it already. It's well worth it.

.

Best driving game in YEARS. Buy the damn thing to support a company who put out a legit game.

PS+ version wouldn't be more than a simple demo though hardly the full experience. The release is already so late it kinda defeats the purpose now the game is dirt cheap to begin with.

But they did?

Rushy/Shu posted it on the DC/Evo facebook/Twitter and it was pretty well reported on here and in the media.

So far we've gotten tweets/fb posts about them still working on it every month since October, when it was supposed to come out, haven't we?

All these people that want to play the game SO BADLY but have to wait for the PS+ edition to make sure they like it, I wonder how they ever decide to purchase every other game that doesn't have trials/demos.

Well your main issue is in assuming everyone still waiting for "wants to play the game SO BADLY".

Different people have different levels of interest in different games. Most gaming enthusiasts either actively or subconsciously place upcoming games in different tiers. There's the "must have this day 1!" tier, which is guaranteed an immediate sale and likely even a preorder, the "Want to play this quite a bit, but can wait/can't play it immediately", which is well within the game's launch window and is bought at full price. Then there's varying levels of "kinda looks neat, but I don't really NEED to play it right now", and they're willing to wait for price drops or several months because they either don't have the time, too busy playing other games, or simply aren't super interested in the game but want to pick it up later. Other people have different criteria for buying a game. Some wait several months until they can pick up a definitive GOTY edition or wait to get it on sale for cheap. Some wait until it costs X amount. $40, $20, what have you. And yes, in some cases, if there's a demo people will just wait for that.

The logical inconsistency of many people in this thread is that they simply assume that either people are being stupid because they really want to play a game and are not buying simply out of principle, or they're stupid because they don't REALLY want to play the game at all and just want to bitch. That's all fine and dandy if they want to convince themselves of an extremely narrow and pretty unlikely narrative, but in reality you're talking about millions of consumers who don't see the need to buy a game day 1, and don't have a yearning to play the game if they don't buy it day 1. Many people are simply waiting because they can, and for many the milestone is "I'll play the demo to get my hands on it".

This is why saying "just buy it already!!!!" and "you whiners didn't really want to play it and are just being annoying!!!" is just tone deaf. It's completely ignoring how consumers actually react and think in the gaming market. The idea that people wait for a game to hit X pricepoint, or come out with a GOTY compliation, or come out with an extended demo, or simply wait until they have more time to play a particular game or are in the mood to play it is very common and normal behavior. The repeated attempts to make these consumers out to be "haters", "whiners", or any other name one might think of is really bizarre. Sorry, not everyone is as on board on the game as some of you might be and want to wait it out. That is not a reason for all the ridiculous vitriol being spread in this thread. I mean, several posters here have exclaimed they actively WANT the demo to never come out just to spite us. That's well beyond the realm of sensible opinions and straight into childish hate.

But they did?

I hardly see that detail in what's been posted? Here and here for example.

Generic apologies and stating that server updates are happening is not detail or transparency. "We're working hard" doesn't really explain what's going on, does it?

Wait there. I'm not a developer, and less an insider.
Gonna edit my post because it sounds like that.

Sorry.

Errrrrrrr... hmmmm.

I want the game for PS+ asap. I don't think it's fair though if there are server concerns to release it. People have paid for the game and they deserve to be online w/no issues. My wanting to play it doesn't trump them at least to me.

If the server concerns are non existent then it needs to be released soon. I doubt we will get the whole game free unless its not released for another half a year on PS+.

What else do you want them to say?

Don't get me wrong, it's better than them saying nothing.

I would like them to help us understand how this all happened. Where was the breakdown? Things obviously went off the rails. As the "enthusiast audience" we understand that games are hard to make and things break. A dev diary would be great, for example. "This is what's happened, this is what we've done and are doing to fix it, and this is how long we expect it to take. Thanks for sticking with us and for enjoying the game so much etc etc".

Don't think that's too much to ask?

What kind of explanation are you expecting? Fall to your feet? A 100 page explanation of what was wrong with their multiplayer architecture?

Oh come on now. I'm not being unreasonable, no need to go to hyperbole.

So if the idea that opening the demo would break the game. Would they ever open it? I mean the launch problems was caused by a code error not capacity so is they anything to suggest they increased capacity or are working on it?

Also I can't believe someone posted Smart police.

This could be the greatest thing to come out of this thread. I'm sure the majority of the "if you just like it, buy it" crowd (myself included) would feel less on the back foot every time it was mentioned if it just wasn't mentioned every. fucking. day. In the OT, in the Japan teaser thread, in the "I'm surprised how good this game is" threads... I'm sure you can't blame us current owners for getting somewhat irate.

I was surprised at seeing an upgrade for the PSN+ version, buying it to unlock the non-existing free version seems cumbersome.
