Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

Really? I would say that I like the finished look much more for the Amiibos such as the tiny details on say Fox, Pit, or Captain Falcon. The Infinity figures look great in terms of poses and size, but their designs are all rather simple due to being Disneyfied. Case in point, I think the Samus Amiibo looks much cooler than Iron Man's Infinity figure even though I usually go crazy for Marvel stuff.
It's a tool/resource just for the community.
It's a list of every single member in the active community (or whoever participates) and the Amiibos they need to finish their collection. It also lists the extra amiibos people have that they are willing to sell/trade.
You can basically look at the list and find other GAF members that have the Amiibo you need and PM them. You can trade or sell. It's just a resource. It also will help when new waves come out, because people have an idea of the amiibos they don't have a pre-order on, or the ones they really want. So community members can be on the look out for specific members.
That's pretty much it in a nut shell. Any personal info is not stored. The only things on it are:
Username:
Amiibos Needed:
Location: (this is the only thing remotely personal, but you just have to state your Country, so people have an idea if you are someone they want to trade/sell to. Some people don't want to ship over seas).
Extra Amiibos you are willing to sell or trade.
That is it. In terms of selling/trading, that is between you and the individual you PM and reach an agreement with. The community is really kind and generous. For instance, there has been multiple cases of people giving out extras for free to people that needed just 1 or 2 to complete Wave 1 and 2. Cases of people buying missing Amiibos for people that are missing them. People going to stores and keeping a look out for the Amiibos others are missing etc.
Everyone basically looks out for the others. It's kind of a tool to combat scalping I suppose. Just people sticking together.

My wife and I are collecting amiibos together. Was planning on giving her Rosalina for her birthday.
Screw you Target Canada!I dislike the Disney Infinity desgins, they lose something when they are converted into the chubby art style. Only two figures I have even been tempted to buy: Mickey and Baymax, both because the look exactly as you expect them to do.
I've never seen a Disney Infinity figure in person. But I feel the art style of Smash Amiibos, has more details?
Don't know about weight/heft and the quality of the material.
I wouldn't be surprised if the reason that so many of the Infinity 1.0 characters were Pixar ones was because they just translated to the art style so much better than other Disney characters. I do wish that with the Marvel figures they would've done a different take on the art style. For starters the Avengers should've had their movie designs rather than the cartoons, and then across the board the designs should've looked like they came out of a comic book. My ideal version of Marvel toys would basically be taking the artstyle straight out of something like Marvel vs. Capcom. Anyway enough off topic talk from me.
The figures themselves looked good. My biggest qualms would be that they lacked detail and looked incredibly simple. Even though I'm not a fan of a lot of the Smash poses, the characters just pop to life for me in a way Infinity doesn't.

I agree with this, just wish the build quality was better, being a huge Nintendo fan they always made me feel like I was getting a durable quality product. Their amiibo line feels so opposite of that.

Yeah. I was trying to go for the wind effect (how Kirby sucks things in). But looks like he has sprinkles on his mouth from Donut. lmao
Yours was kind of tricky, because of the shape of the image. Was trying to figure out ways to put it in (and your image was bumping up against the edges which limits where you can put the sparkles). The best idea I could come up with, was making it look like sound waves coming out of his ears (or it looking like he's listening to sound).
I think the bottom one came out great. And of course, transparent background. Yay!

Not sure if this is better? Scaled a bit down, and angled a bit more to the ears (left ear facing up, right ear facing down).

I think the biggest question we should all be asking is:

I'm really curious to how they pull him off. He's meant to be razor thin 2D, but I'm not sure if that is feasible with a figure unless it is super fragile. Also him not keeping his feet planted to the ground might mean they have to give him a support beam, but that would look ridiculous on a 2D character.
Each line has their pros and cons. There's two things I wish Amiibo's would have stolen...poses that don't rely upon plastic holding rods....and more varied bases. DI figures' bases are different depending on their original IP. Tinkerbell's on a leaf, Stitch is on a beach, you get the idea. The Amiibo trophy base is a bit sterile by comparison.

Do they not plan on releasing every single smash roster? I would be said if Zero Suit Samus didn't get one. I mean, I get Samus already has an Amiibo. Butt Zero Suit is my most played character. Would like to have an Amiibo in game of her.

I have to think Nintendo of Canada will find other retailers to sell the product. Hopefully they tell us sooner than later what the plan is.
It would be a Club Nintendo exclusive for thousands of coins. The site crashes constantly, and people go out and buy Nintendo games in bucket loads to register surveys and earn more coins. The character also sells out in an extremely short time.
Positive side though, he can't be scalped!
He is going to have to be thicker, as I'm not sure there is a way around it. They might try and round him out to make him not look so blocky, similar to how metal Mr. Game & Watch in Smash looks somewhat rounded such as on his face.
I remember the day the colored 3DS cradles were made available on the Club Nintendo website... It hurts to imagine such a situation happening again.

Never getting the Luigi's Mansion figure hurt so bad. I was only 100 coins short but there wasn't any games out that I wanted to buy and I had already completed all my surveys.
SMTIV + FE:A promotion was incredible though, got a free download of AA5 because of that.

Well, in good news, Best Buy actually did ship our Fox amiibo even after all the craziness, so yay.
In not so good news, I had ordered a WFT from an import site (I can't remember exactly which one- I need to check again), but I haven't heard anything about it yet outside of the initial confirmation. Trying not to worry- hope it comes through!

I wonder how Nintendo feels about that promotion. Sure it drummed up interest in both series, but the effect might not be as long lasting since it will have been a few years by the time the game comes out. Although this isn't really the place to discuss that.
I imagine a lot of 3DS gaffers did the same. As for the Luigi figure, well you can't have them all. Also taught me a valuable lesson to hoard coins in case of another blue moon event. Metal Mario exclusive Amiibo is just waiting to happen.
If you are talking about the Google Document, I removed it from there, since people weren't using it enough. The person running the list was using the thread on here, and it seemed most people were also using the thread instead. No one was actually using the Google doc for that, and all names were the ones I added. So I figured, it was probably easier for people to just do it in this thread.
Maybe I made the wrong call.
Unless you weren't talking about that. But to add your name to the list here, you just quote the list and add your name.
