Inaccessible areas you would've loved to explore

Is that skyrim ? I remember it being inaccessible only during the intro mission

I think that's a road on the border of sky rim leading to cyrodil or something like that (if I remember correctly). It teases you about what is beyond the borders of sky rim.

Unfortunately, the moment you step foot in the grass the game freezes. But man, the theories at the time were crazy. I don't think there will ever be anything quite like "pre-mainstream Internet" Pokémon.

In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts after reaching the top of LOG's tower you get to look at the world outside of Showdown Town's gates. Always wished you could go out there in a vehicle and explore since there was quite a bit of detail put into the landscape.

Here

Hyrule Field in Wind Waker is another good one. Such a damn tease halfway through the game.

This is a fairly recent example. This is in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

See that dark water areas at the top? You can't go there because the water currents push you left, so it is impossible to go up there. It would bother me every time I went through there lol.

This is Dragon Age: Inquisition, the thread. The whole game so far has involved me looking at the skyboxes and thinking that they look way more interesting to explore than the actual gameplay areas.

In retrospect, this whole Ariana thing was moronic, but the concept of this extra dungeon always had me dreaming.

I mean, what the fuck would you even do with the Triforce?

Just about every non-playable area in Halo 3/Reach.
Though technically, i did get to explore them by using a theater-mode trick. Unfortunately this also ruined those areas for me, they were nowhere near as interesting as they seemed to be.

Inaccessible areas are only cool as long as you can't get to them. Usually.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution- Upper Hengsha and Montreal. both was planned to be city hubs but didnt make it in time and were cut out of the game.
Didn't know that. That really bums me out. I remember just staring out the window at upper Hengsha because it was one of the most beautiful things in all of deus ex and wishing I could go there.

They should of made it a DLC or something.

I don't know why, but the first thing that came to mind was the region beyond the Dauna Checkpoint in Breath of Fire III

The fact that there's a gate means there's got to be some civilization on the other side, and since we can explore pretty much the whole known world in the game it bothered me a little

Shenmue 2 had a few areas either cut (because the game wasn't supposed to end "there") or Yu was already working on Shenmue 3 and these areas are from there. Its been so long I forget the exact reasoning. The area is Bailu village, the small rural Chinese town Ryo is heading to after leaving Hong Kong (screens from Shenmue Dojo)

I'd kill to be able to explore Shenmue 2's cut content, mainly because even to this day I'd love to see just where the game goes after 2's ending.

Destiny, the area they literally told "I could go there right now" in that infamous dev diary.

The funny thing is Bungie said the same about places beyond the game area in Halo 3. "It is all rendered, you can go there" or some such shit.
Wasn't true. (If you could bypass the invisible barriers, the ground has no collision so you'd fall through it,)

This is Dragon Age: Inquisition, the thread. The whole game so far has involved me looking at the skyboxes and thinking that they look way more interesting to explore than the actual gameplay areas.

Barring the giant wolf a status in one zone I would say Inquisition is exactly the opposite. I loved the fact that I would see vast zones and things in the far distance and then get to explore them.

(Val Royeux I guess as well as something you see but don't touch).

So many regions of the Mass Effect series, mainly more of the Citadel, but some areas (like the Krogan planet) would've benefited from some more exploration.

And yeah, the Upper Hengsha area in DE:HR.

I would really like to be able to explore the last city in Destiny.

The tower isn't really interesting. Destiny is a decent game but it could have been so much more, every time I play it I feel disappointed because Bungie dropped the ball on creating an interesting universe

Destiny.

That game has the most glorious skyboxes.

Deus Ex HR as well.

After playing through the Director's Cut with the commentary they let players know about all the stuff that they had to cut, some of it sounded incredible.

the carpark (and beyond) of the burnside skatepark in tony hawk

All of the levels in Tony Hawk. They always showed you just a little bit of what was outside the boundaries of the level and since those games had tons of secrets you'd always think that being able to leave the level was one of them. I know I spent many hours trying to moon jump into areas I wasn't allowed to go to.

Even in WWHD, I still spent a decent amount of time trying to get to underwater Hyrule. =(

Also, the 6th Archstone in Demon's Souls and the Castle in Royal Raceway in MK8.

Skyloft concept art.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the final product. But that right there is a thing of majesty
I was so disappointed with the Skyloft and generally the whole upper world concept. I thought I would be free to explore all the world's sky and discover interesting islands and cities (like Wind Waker, but more optional).

I would've loved to explore the cut areas and content from Tomba! (PSX). Apparently there was a metal village that was scrapped. Plus there are empty entries in the event log (that drove me insane back then) that show cut content.

A kid in my 2nd grade class told me that once you completed the Pokedex and maxed all of your Pokemon's levels that Prof. Oak would give you the ability to jump over all of the hedges and barriers you wanted.

I miss pre internet video game rumors :(

Basically everything cut in Soul Reaver (I remember finding the "TheLostWorlds" site one day and being amazed and disappointed at the same time.) but mostly Turel's Domain.
I know many things were used in the sequels but I gotta say the return to Avernus and finally meeting Turel there Defiance was kinda underwhelming.

Not just this, but I remember spending a lot of time in MK64 trying to hop on mountains and other areas to explore the beyond of the tracks. Usually that meant falling down into the void eventually, but I did find this neat little cliff side on Koopa Troopa Beach you could station yourself on.
Nasrad from Skies of Arcadia has this area with a whole market place below, but you're stuck on a bridge above it. Also sucks that after certain events this whole area is inaccessible for the rest of the game.

As for beta stuff, I'd love to walk through Mario 64's moon filled beta castle.

Usually any land which is polygon created but out of reach because of water or death plains.

Sometimes you find ways over and it's an area you can actually stand on or you fall straight through because of no collision, still fun though.
