it's a decent album to me which should mean amazing to Lupe stans, so yeah check it out, buy it, support it etc etc

my thought's exactly. his early mix tapes were fire and then his plummet was sharp and sudden.
i'll give this an honest spin, given the positive impressions.
Gave it two full listens and wasn't feeling it. It's alright. Definitely better than most his stuff, probably on par with The Cool. I just can't stand the guy's lyricism. Mural is him going in for 9 minutes but most of his rhymes don't captivate me.
Of course this is coming from someone that never liked the guy. If you're a Lupe fan, you're gonna think this a return to form. The production is a step up for sure; relies a lot on string arrangements that work most of the time, like the ones in Prisoner 1 & 2, and some jazz elements interspersed throughout. I also actually like some the song concepts (Madonna gives me Kanye vibes and it's a good track overall) and hooks (Body Of Work, for example). Overall though, meh. You should be excited if you're a Lupe fan.

I was disappointed and bored on first listen and don't have any desire to go back, having to immediately listen to 8 whole minutes of straight rapping over a merely decent beat has seen to that.
Personally i had pretty high expectations going in though, tracks he's released coming up to release like Mazinger, Pu$$y, Deliver and Halie Selassie had me getting properly hyped.
Based on one listen I'd say tamper your expectations and you'll probably enjoy it.

With tracks like Chopper...hell naw.
Think of The Cool with a mix of FNL and a pint of his 1st and 15th mixtapes.

This album is fire, so many great songs.
Madonna, Body of Work, TRON, and Mural are all amazing. Chopper is 8 minutes of pure grime, surprised Halie isn't on the album too.

Count me and a lot of my friends who thought the final album was way better than the leak/bootleg
Not proud. Just burnt. He's on the top of the list with the human wreckage of Jay Elec and MF Doom. Potential and some greatness achieved but just keep squandering it and pushing out pure shit people seem to gobble up because of their past.
Fuck that. There's greater music being produced everyday to be discovered.

High hopes for this one. I loved Food & Liquor. I think I missed "The Cool", but Lasers and F&L2 were kinda wack.
I find myself waiting for more Frank Ocean instead (apples and oranges, I know), but I'll give this a listen.

Ah. Didn't notice any links in the article. Well I'll take it off since the album is coming in a few hours anyway.
And you gotta listen to The Cool! Very good concept album.
Lupe barely sells. No one is gobbling up whatever he puts out.
Secondly listening to this album doesn't mean you can't listen to the other supposed amazing music coming out everyday. It probably takes more time and energy to come into threads to tell people what they should or shouldn't listen to then to actually give the album a proper listen.
Put out 2 amazing albums and now people don't even have time to give it a listen? Most musicians don't even put out 2 great albums their whole career.

that's such a great song. I always thought Mazinger/Haile/Lillies was building on his "Lost in the Atlantic" mixtape...but apparently it was never a mixtape.
