Fighting Games Weekly | Jan 19-25 | As Seen On WSHH

What time is the announcement? Main twitch channel right?

My realistic unrealistic list... wait how many games again? Oh well.

1. USF4
2. UMvC3
3. Melee
4. GG Xrd Sign
5. KoF13
6. KI
7. SM$SH
8. SkullGirls

On Kachitagari tv, Nyanshi said that the Topanga event at Tokaigi (Feb 1st) will be bigger than the Madcatz event at TGS. Bonchan, Kazunoko, and Fuudo were all surprised because of how big Madcatz did their thing.

Nice! There's also that 2x2 event isn't there?? Lot's of good stuff to come. BTW whens that SFV exhibition between Daigo and Gamerbee?

8PM UK time on Tuesdays.

Logan Sama, organiser of the old WSO weeklys in London, invites some of London's finest to Capcom UK HQ for first to 5 sets in USF4.

Ususally goes on for a few hours.
Btw, Topanga could use a description. Topanga tv is a weekly show featuring Mago, Tokido, and Momochi. They go over the tournaments they will participate and have participated in overseas and in Japan, as well as the general news in SF. For long periods of the year, there is a student-teacher session involving one of the 3 topanga members taking a player under their wing and teaching them how to play SF. The show features rank matches (sometimes random char. matches) and ends with a 8 man online tournament featuring players around 4.5kpp like Poongko, Inco, etc...
Thanks guys, will update OP.

I have a feeling they won't be able to have both Smash 4 and Melee, so one of them will have to go. With Nintendo most likely be sponsoring again and would want there new game to get the spotlight, giving Melee the boot. If this happens, the response to PM getting the boot from Apex will be noting compared to the response to that.

Sup fighting GAF...been awhile.
I'm hoping to find a fighter that really cements me again now that I'm settled into my career and working on paying off college. Haven't had a fighter hook me hard since I got involved in Injustice and Marvel. Tried with KoF , but my execution and time constraints just didn't come to terms with one another lol.

Hopefulls this year are Smash, MKX and possibly something unexpected hooking me in. Lately though I've just been playing Smash Bros, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, some Blaz Blue and just testing the waters with returning to DOA. Most of what I do is pretty much work overtime and slowly put in work on getting assets for a long standing game project.

Hoping Nintendo has something good to say soon with Pokken Fighters on the 23rd and whatever APEX is supposed to announce.

Get Guilty Gear :P It's super easy to learn

I feel like after the last two years there's no way Melee wouldn't be the main smash event

It doesn't matter how much Nintendo wants to moneyhat Sm4sh, I don't think the community would accept not having Melee at EVO.

If I'm not mistaken, its not want the community wants, its what Wizard says at the end of the day (or what was relayed to him since he's the face of EVO). There has to be a lot that goes into deciding the lineup for the games like sponsors, popularity and the nature of the community itself. If it really was what the community wanted, wouldn't there be a voting system implemented for the lineup of games?
Unless I'm talking nonsense again, also that's how we would get Mario Kart Wii U on the lineup lol.
If Melee is removed from the EVO lineup, not saying that it will be and we'll figure that out tonight, there will be an uproar, and a huge one at that.

SFV exhibition is on the 31st so Daigo will fly back to Japan as soon as that is done.

Is this after EVO?

The Topanga event is the 2v2 event. Players will draw a # and that will decide who they're teaming with.

It would just be an unwise business decision to not have Melee. It brings in entrants and it brings in viewers. Evo should want the biggest communities to make them money at the venue and also land them sponsors. Sponsors want viewership #s so their product gets seen by more people.

Without taking money into account, I feel like the biggest communities deserve to be at EVO.

.

Not really an apt comparison. It's not like Mario Kart is going to pull 1k+ entrants. If Melee isn't featured it's just Wizard being stubborn. But it's not like that hasn't happened before...

That last page...

Also, apparently the hotel deal is up for Evo but as always, the hotel doesn't really give them a deal. >_>

Is it stupid like 2 years ago where the deal was for the Paris even though the actual event was held at Bally?

Or are the deal rate rooms in the right hotel this time?

I've just beat Persona 4 Golden and apparently the plot more or less is followed up in some form in P4 Arena.

I've been thinking of picking up P4 Arena Ultimax and getting the story DLC for the original Arena to catch up.

I'm guessing based on Arc System's Involvement with the game it has similar gameplay mechanics as Guilty Gear, based on Bursting and IK's and whatnot.

I'm sure there is some Persona related mechanics thrown in as well.

Now I generally don't care much for the story for a fighting game and I'm all about the actual gameplay mechanics, but considering this IS Persona, my interest is piqued in that regard.

I knew you'd say that lol :)

I used to play casually a lot as Testament and Slayer back with GGXX. Really digged your Sol vs Ky vid with Kusaru or whatever that Rocket Raccoon guy's name was. Course we both know which fighter I think about the most ;)

Anyone here using the TvC thing that was setup to allow online play? I haven't set it up because it requires me to rip my disc which Im sketchy on how to do to use dolphin and I'm not about to pirate it for an iso to try it. God I missed that game.

Melee deserves it. I just don't feel as confident in the game being there if Nintendo is willing to bring Sony-type amounts of cash to EVO and wants their newest Smash game to get viewed by thousands of people... Which I doubt will happen since the scene isn't on the forefront for Nintendo like it is for Capcom, just food for thought.

I meant the Mario Kart thing as a joke, not as a comparison, which I poorly described in my post, my bad. I only said since it happened once EVO if I'm not mistaken... Maybe I am since I only hear about it from time to time lol

Edit:

Please tell me the video title is a joke. PLEASE.

I mean Splatoon should be good, but I don't see how that's supposed to be related to fighting games :P

Baileys is way cheaper but Paris has better rooms.

Honestly, if you don't mind the walk or paying for a taxi, I'd just check out a room at Luxor or Excalibur and do the half hour walk.

They have better rooms? Paris rooms (well, the group EVO deal rooms, anyway) were pretty average looking.

Half hour walk? No thanks. Going down the elevator and right to the venue can't be beat. Especially when you wake up late for your pools... >.>

Yes, and I did. I was jealous of your free wifi, remember.

Oh yeah! I remember that now. It wasn't free wifi because I had to pay the resort fee but at least I got it. =O

Looks like they give you 2 Wifi connections for the Resort Fee now though.

Deals are for both Bally's and Paris but I'm going to book for Bally's. I'm just wondering how much the deal is. Right now, Hotel + Flight is looking like 550-600 for me through Expedia.

It plays almost nothing like GG outside of air dashing and having burst.

Edit: I really wish Splatoon was out already

Same. Splatoon is the first game with shooting I have ever been excited for. The paint trails and color add so much chaos and fun. You can actually read the position of folks fighting from around corners thanks to that by seeing the paint trails. Plus the mobility in it looks fantastic and I just overall dig the goal of cover it all in paint and the ability to fast travel to the action.

Definitely see Splatoon as one of the most exciting things I'll play this year that will be new.

I'm not saying that Wizard/EVO couldn't do it, or if Nintendo wouldn't pay to have it removed to make room for the game they want to push, but it just wouldn't make sense for EVO to do it. It's one thing for a company to moneyhat a game into the lineup like MS or NRS did, but it's another thing to moneyhat a game out.

Nintendo would have to put up an ungodly sum in order for EVO to want to kill all the momentum they've built up over the last 2 years, and it's different from Nintendo not wanting to have people run an unofficial mod at an event they sponsor.

If you think Paris was average, than I don't know what to say about Baileys. There is a reason why Baily charges $30-40 a night less.

Also, I should say the last time I stayed at Paris, it was in one of their suites, so it was pretty nice.

Your right, it doesn't make sense. I wanted to elaborate on the situation showing that it can be a possibility, a highly unlikely one. My worry is that Nintendo is gonna Nintendo and screw over a very passionate community... Hopefully my worries are nothing but a figment of my imagination,
just like the rest of people who post in FGW. Kappa

Do either of them have a buffet? And if they do, can anyone rank which one is better? I wanna stuff my face as much as I can if I ever go to EVO.

I stayed in the North Tower at Bally's for 2013 and it was quite nice and really spacious. It was better than the Paris rooms I saw.

Anyway, SCR is looking like May 1-3 this year according to Valle. That's the weekend we wanted for NWM but couldn't because of the venue, heh. That's a really good weekend for me overall which is a shame we couldn't set it there.

From what I can gather, it seems like Mr Wizard still really wants to believe that the Smash scene as a whole is going to move onto Smash4. Despite the fact that Melee and Smash4 are two different communities. (As well as 64 and PM) It's sorta like how their are still communities for SF3 that never moved on to SF4, just much different in terms of size. Like yeah, their is certainly some overlap between the different communities, but it's a lot less than most outsiders think imo. The Smash4 community for example is almost entirely Brawl players and newcomers to the scene.

One of these years I really need to head to EVO. Maybe when I stop being a cheapass because of student loans lol. I never justify much in terms of vacation when I see those bills.

Wish I still had a local scene here in WV now that I moved up North. It was cool having Injustice locals. Especially since all of us mained different folks. We had a Superman, a Doomsday/Flash, an Aquaman/Batgirl, and I was Bane/Hawkgirl. Great sets.

I am emo SCR will be so late this year. It's a great tournament I never miss but with MKX being so close I don't know if I'd morally be able to compete. I could just go for Injustice though I suppose.

can't wait for the line up reveal so i can sign up for everything and get bodied in pools

aren't you working on a fighting game in your spare time? you could consider evo a business trip for networking purposes

Never been to EVO myself.

Although it's mostly due to expenses. Rent and needing to keep up with my Student Loans.

Although being a Philadelphia resident gives me the fortunate opportunity to regularly attend Winter Brawl and NEC, minding my work schedule doesn't get in the way.

Also, thanks for the reply on P4A, QisTopTier. I'll probably go pick up the game tomorrow. Reading up some info on the game over at Dustloops has made me somewhat more interested in the game.

It's more like BB than GG if anything. Plays pretty different in any case.

The story is more of a 'another thing happens with these characters you like!' than a real sequel, but i enjoyed it well enough.

Being able to play Persona characters in a fighting game is the real draw to me. I like them a lot more than most fighting game original casts.

Looking at the calendar, SCR is in such a weird place as far as events go. If it sticks to that day, it'll be 3 weekends in a row of tournaments. That's going to be some serious tourney fatigue.

Yeah. I'm still working on assets. I had like a whole year of delays with 21 hours of college, work for Industrial Chemical where I had to learn IT and code stuff on top of my process technology work and then a relocation and 6 months training to work in operations in power plant work.

Tooooooooons of shit got in the way. I'm finally finishing out all the stuff and working in some CG stuff in between swing shifts. Its slow but I got nothing but time. Nice thing is I got an engine thats pretty much ready to rock the second I finish a model with animations. Been putting in work on some complicated boots this week. Gonna have to make this dude a limb at a time though...too much shit on him to model lol. Nice thing is once he's up and weighted I can just say fuckit on textures and go straight to animations since I can use his base as a template to test stuff with and play catchup on color palettes later.

Like I said...stuff is slow and my career had 2 major changes in the same year I took on more college than anyone sane should in an industrial field. But now that I'm settled I'm into the work again. Hell I think after I talked to Q last week was when I started getting stuff goin again.

Oh whaaaat. So when do you think is NWM going to happen? I know a bunch of my local guys wanted to come down for that.

I've never been to EVO. I'd like to go but I just can't afford it. I've also never been on a plane. :/

Planes are not too bad, it's sorta similar to riding a train. You sit down and mind yourself while you feel shaking every now and then.

Last year was the first time I rode one too.

I didn't know the date for SCR 2015 was up already. I had to go look it up since some people were mentioning it.

That's so late into the tournament season. Later than what I expected at least.

What's the other tournament besides NWM?

Like?

I see people cite VF4:EVO, KI, and Skullgirls for their tutorials all of the time. If you know of more, please do share.

SC, BB which also had a packed in DVD tutorial on the collector's edition for CT are the ones that I can think off the top of my head.
