Are we actually going to have P4AU v2.00 by the time EVO happens?

Because if not, the Japanese players might not bother to come for playing a version that is obsolete to them.

I feel like that's the eternal problem with running Arc System Works games outside of Japan, we're almost always out of date because ASW keeps prioritizing domestic arcades over the international audience.

Yeah, this was my immediate thought once P4AU was announced and is one of the reasons I was hoping for BBCPE or UNIEL over it. Japan had just gotten 2.0 in arcades last week, too. Hopefully this means Mr. Wizard and Atlus know something that we don't, but I'd highly doubt there'd be such a quick turnaround time to get it on consoles. IIRC, even BBCP 2.0 -> BBCPE is at least a 5-month time span.

The only thing that gives me hope is that it's only a balance patch so it's not like there needs to be a new retail version. It could release relatively soon after arcades just like BBCP1.2 last year.

Tekken 7...is a good marketing move, really, but the fact that an arcade only title (It'll be finished by EVO.) gets priority over 3D fighters compared to DOA and that other fighting game that oneida likes is a huge slap in the face.

DOA has been putting in work. It's developers have been continuously supporting it. It's a successful title. It has a pretty sizable playerbase overseas. But nope doesn't make it to EVO, or hell the damn game gets little recognition in a lot of majors.

Says a lot.

Its developers sure have put in a lot of work adding more tits and underage girls into the game.

Also LOL at the idea that it's even remotely as popular a competitive game as Tekken in any country whatsoever.

I'm gonna enter Tekken 7 just so I can play the game without waiting in a long line.

You can get a massive head start by playing Tekken Revolution. Tekken 7 has the same okizeme / wakeup system along with combo gravity and such. And from the location tests, the frame data hasn't changed from Tekken Revolution except for the moves that transitioned into armor moves. Only thing to really adapt to is the new bound which should be the same.

Aside from that, DOA5LR is gonna be a new entry and deserved a shot the same way KI is getting another chance with S2. Skullgirls deserves a spot too with Beowulf and Eliza coming out.

Oh interesting. I'd played some Revolution but gave up on it quick once I got bored with online. I'd much prefer to just have local play as an option, though I understand why Namco might not want that in TR.

Wait, so Tekken 7 will be at EVO? We don't even have a release date for the console version yet? I hope it's not a rush job.

Also, I heard Atlus tried to moneyhat with anime girl pillows, but after Wizard refused they offered him Mos Burger instead.

I wonder if I can moneyhat Kadey to curse the Patriots.

It's gonna be the arcade ver which is supposed to be done next month.

Persona is about the same as UNIEL in regards to attendance numbers. NEC was the outlier being the tourney a lot of folks traveled to specifically for the game.

It really is the new SFxT in regards to player base and attendance but without the crossover of SF4 players. I think that's probably another consideration for persona, crossover. Despite slightly different communities, Airdasher players do play the other games.

When was the last time a DoA or VF game was a main game at EVO?

It is isn't a slap to anybody's face. If Tekken 7 wasn't being included, the lineup would definitely be barren of 3D fighters altogether.

I'm tired of pessimism so be happy with what you have. Tekken 7s omission wouldn't suddenly make DoA or VF or even TTT2 more likely to be in the lineup.

Dead or Alive would've never made it in Evo.
Even in Big E tournaments, where it gets a huge push, it only gets like 30 entrants or something.

To be blunt, the 3D fighter scene in the US these days is Tekken and not much else since Soul Calibur and VF declined in popularity over the years.

I don't know if VF, DOA, or SC could ever reach their old levels of popularity again.

Woah, Sayah and I agree on something!

The context for this situation isn't "Tekken 7 or DoA/VF?". It's "Tekken 7 or nothing?", because the scenes for those latter two games are close to null. This is a great moment for fighting games: a developer is bringing a finished title over early to the USA just for Evo to experience it. Has that ever happened before? I know we got betas, but full games from overseas? Tekken 7 will bring more players than the other two communities combined based on that alone.

It's hardly the first time Evo has had free-play stations for currently-unreleased-on-consoles arcade fighters. Hell, Under Night was in that position just last year.

It seems a bit presumptuous to entirely dismiss the DOA community entirely with the growing scene these past couple of years. I know previous DOA's didn't do well at EVO, but I feel like DOA5U is the MK9 of the series. Does anyone have attendance numbers on the majors from this past year?

Some ideas to improve community and meta integration in fighting game clients:

- Create editorial (a meta and community blog a la hearthstonetopdecks.com) that commentates on the happenings in the game's competitive meta (e.g. what's the new tech? who's coming up the ranks? what's happened in the most recent hype tournament?)
- Seed online tournaments and seasonal events (like the monthly ranking race that's done for Hearthstone). Make it enticing for people to participate in the competition; give them awards, badges, etc
- Universally record and archive match data online. And make that a guideline for offline events as well, with those players using their own profiles (on a usb device of sorts, which can also include their button settings, colors, etc) so that other players can look up their matches easily from within the client
- Make it possible to spectate and follow players (without them having to be on your friends list) within the game client. For example, this shows on your feed: so and so beat this high-ranked player recently, click on it to watch the replay

And extension of that into training mode:
- Allow users to import a setup or scenario from a recorded match into the dummy trainer so they can easily practice it. Similarly, allow importing combos into a free-form challenge-mode-like combo trainer
- Have an online library for user-shared combos and setups, rated and curated by the community, to easily access in the combo and setup trainer

Any one got any more?

I would have liked to see UNIEL at EVO, but Persona has the support from the publisher and the waifu community behind it.

Dead or Alive would've never made it in Evo.
Even in Big E tournaments, where it gets a huge push, it only gets like 30 entrants or something.

DOA at NEC had 48 people, but still had no chance at EVO. The competitive scene for it just isn't that big for it.

Tekken isn't the only 3D fighter around. SCV had more entrants when it was at EVO than TTT2 did. Even so, Tekken 7 is the new game that's going to have most people's attention right now, so if it wasn't at EVO, there'd be no 3D game in the main lineup since TTT2 has been on the decline.

I'm more excited to see T7 than TTT2 anyway because it's new and returns back to 1v1 gameplay, and Korea would just own everyone for free in TTT2 anyway.

So basically copy/paste what DOTA 2 already has.

I like the idea of character-specific 'hubs' also. You could go see the highest rated or newest clips/replays/posts about that character.

Maybe also include a way for players to use the hubs as a way to challenge/find players who main that character.

We've agreed on stuff on before. Like how great Smash 4 is. :P

2006 for DOA and 2007 for VF.

It's been a minute for sure.
Wow.

3D fighters have declined in the competitive scene but thankfully their sales are good enough to guarantee sequels. DoA5 is riding on costume DLC. Tekken is like the soccer of fighting games. Popular everywhere but America. And SCV did really well with sales from what I recall despite its rushed content and release.

It's hardly the first time Evo has had free-play stations for currently-unreleased-on-consoles arcade fighters. Hell, Under Night was in that position just last year.
Yeah but when were those games featured on stage as main games?

Melee and UMVC3 are the only unpatched, non-updated repeat games at EVO (out of 9 games).

Let that sink in for a bit.

LMAO @ Mike Ross's comment about Justin. "Justin had to nerf himself to make the matches a spectacle" because otherwise it would've been MVC2 era Justin rolling over everyone super free.

"My characters got nerfed"

Kappa

Hey, my character got nerfed in P4U2 2.0 as well lol
P4U2.0 is likely to be a patch, right? I'm thinking of picking it up.

The community is hoping and also getting the word out to Atlus. At worst case, the interest in P4U2 at Evo is still there. It's still new in America and quite a few Japanese were already interested into traveling to Evo for it.

Will Marvel die if ChrisG wins?

If I'm not mistaken, one has decreasing attendance annually while the other increases.

D E A D
I was merely pointing out that this is the future of FGs in general... updates/revisions/new iterations gets your games to stay at EVO while older ones are left out in the cold.

Marvel and Melee are generally anomalies (2 out of 9 games) and even Marvel is fading naturally over time (game has put in 5 years already at EVO, that's way more than most fighting games). SF also has enough clout to stay at EVO without revisions although with the direction SFV is heading I don't believe that will happen... game will get updated until SF6 and so on.

Games like KI and Persona would not have made it to EVO if they didn't just had new updates. I don't care how much money hats they put in, it just wasn't gonna happen especially for Persona. A new update pushed it over the edge and allowed it to be played at EVO.

Will Marvel die if ChrisG wins?
Probably although I think 2016 will be the last year for Marvel 3. Though if someone like Yipes wins we might be in for a 2017 EVO with Marvel.

I wouldn't be shocked if this was Marvel's last year. But right now there's nothing to replace it in the lineup.

Of course next year could be both SF4 and 5. Wouldn't be the first time to have multiple SF games on the stage.

I am watching the EVO stream and Mr Wiz roasting Mike Ross is hilarious.

"We don't sell out unlike the Mike Ross we all know."

LMAO! Also another LMAO @ Mike Ross DODGING Mr Wiz's request for a MM at EVO for MKX.
