#DEFLATEGATE: Goodell never had any balls

The only thing i really got out of that was the NFL not contacting him yet. If you're starting a proper investigation i would think talking to the QB throwing the ball would be one of the first places you start.

Not that im surprised or anything.

There's no way that Brady press conference comforts anyone.

Either he didn't notice because he always uses deflated balls or he's straight up lying because there's no way he doesn't notice the difference if he normally doesn't use deflated balls.

Two words, Mr. President.

Plausible deniability.

All of this makes be wonder: Why doesn't the NFL let QBs do their thing to the footballs then take them back and gauge them and what not. Then have the officials control the balls for the entire game. Does this just make too much sense?

I believe him. This is a non issue. Did I mention I live 30 minutes from Foxboro.
I'm beginning to embrace the hate. =)

I live 10 minutes from Foxboro and I believe him harder!

I'm embracing the hate!

That was not a good or convincing press conference. I believe Belechick but I don't think Brady was completely honest there.

lol, he held on to the ball the entire game and didn't notice what a defensive player took note of right away after an interception.

Stuff like this is why incidents get blown out of proportion. The DB already said he didn't notice a difference. It sounds like the Colts were tipped off about the balls, and that's why they checked.

Don't have to be a Pats fan to not go nuts over it. Now we're being told the balls were fixed during the 2nd half and that was when the team played better.

I'm just not seeing why I should be so up in arms yet. Fan or not. Seems like everyone has an agenda here.

Well, one issue is the possibility that this isn't the first time that the balls have been deflated. It's hard to believe that the time they got caught is the first time it ever happened. The Ravens game was decided by 4 points.

They did one. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=12207314&categoryid=2459789

Conclusion was the impact would be minimal and water on a wet day would matter more.

Even if tests showed an underinflated ball made things harder for Brady and the Pats, they should still be punished for breaking the rules. It doesn't even have to be intentional - the ballboy/team is responsible for keeping the balls at a certain PSI, and even if it was a mistake they didn't fulfill their job.

What that punishment should be is, of course, another question. Intent and effect on the game should be taken into consideration when deciding a fitting punishment.

We don't even have conclusive evidence it's an advantage from what was posted in this thread.

Breaking the rules with the intent of gaining competitive advantage is the key. Even if it doesn't work. Even if that shit backfires Wile E. Coyote style.

You get the sense that for some people this would only be a relevant issue if the Pats won by 7 or less points. Pats win big? Didn't matter lol. Colts win? Didn't work lol.

Brady press conference was all bs .

i still say a prop bet will be the seahawks check the ball every pats offensive snap , or at least once per 1st down or ball change

i dont watch football much at all only the superbowl however what type of punishment could the league dish out?

If you cheat on a math test but do worse cause you copied off of a dumbass sitting next to you, see if the teacher buys that defense.

You can tell ESPN feels their reputation may be on the line, considering they were the ones that propagated it in the first place. Now they have everyone on the network screaming that Brady and Belichick are full of shit.

I really don't care, they cheated, they didn't cheat, whatever. All I want is them to lose next Sunday, same as if this whole thing never happened at all.

If the Patriots did this, it is because they thought it was an advantage. They broke rules in an attempt to create an unfair advantage. To me the intent and the act mean more than the outcome. To me, it's similar to steroids in Baseball. People will swear up and down that steroids don't make it any easier to hit a baseball. But that didn't keep players from using in an attempt to gain an advantage.

And there is some circumstantial evidence that the Patriots outperform other offenses in cold weather.

I think it seems reasonable that they tried these balls at some point and got a good result. I don't know that the balls were the cause of the result, but they probably saw fit to keep it going.

If you dislike the patriots you think he's lying

If you like the patriots you think he's telling the truth

I don't dislike the patriots. I was born in NH. If you cheat and get caught just tell what happened. With how superstitious athletes are there is no way a QB has such a lackadaisical attitude towards the game ball. I believe Belichick didn't care enough, I don't believe Brady though. Its a fine at most why keep the thing going?

I think the rule book says it would be a $25K fine. That's what the PTI guys said at least.

could we say that the "balls" being deflated worked in the favour of the pats and helped them solidify a win or is that beyond the point and speculation and just punish for the fact that the ball was deflated?
