Zelda fans - are you really expecting Zelda U this year?

I almost wish I could look forward to the tears at the announcement of the delay, but WiiU defenders have been denying certain realities for over 2 years, so at the point of the delay, there's probably already gonna be some other displacing narrative ready, acting as if this discourse never happened. As usual.

Just ditch the almost, you already wishing it happens so you can have your petty payback for the times you got mocked openly over being so salty with Mario 3D World.

I think it's going to be this year. Until they say it's for next year. Then I'll think it's next year.

More pressing matters to think about. :P

Whether it's going to be delayed or not, we're all going to get it right? So why are we talking? haha

To be honest, I might even welcome a delay because I kind of want to buy a PS4 around Q4 2015 - but if xenoblade and zelda are released I know I won't have the time to play any other games.

I know, right! I mean, it's not like games ever get delayed, right; especially ambitious games which are first time efforts for a particular dev?!
Amiibos from both Wave 2 and Wave 3 got delayed as well.
Nintendo has been very inconsistent.

I never got the issue either. Why does it matter if I play it November 2015 or February 2016? I rather they make the game close to perfect than rush it out.

Edit: We also saw more of 3D World before the year it got released as well.

The Zelda OT in December should feature the spieler eins gif just for this comment. ^^

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 3D World was unveiled for the first time during E3 of 2013 and released ~6 months later in November of 2013. To compare 3D World with Zelda, at this point in the year we wouldn't know that Zelda U is even in development at all.

I could have sworn it was announced during Winter Direct 2013.
Edit: Found it!
Wikipedia said:
In a January 2013 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that a new 3D Mario game was being produced by the development team behind Super Mario Galaxy.[25][26] The game's official title was announced during the E3 2013 Nintendo Direct on June 11, 2013, along with its tentative release date of November 2013.[8]
So you are right about a one year announce to release cycle for Mario, but has Zelda ever had a one year development cycle?

Yep, you are 100% correct.

It was first shown on Nintendo's E3 2013 direct and was released rougly 6 months later.

I'm just finding it amazing that Nintendo is releasing two big epic open world action games at all, let alone in the same quarter.

You'll have to forgive the doubters. Maybe this is an alternate dimension Nintendo. Maybe the walls between universes are growing thin.

They said that they were making a 3D Mario, and nothing else... what you said was that "We also saw more of 3D World before the year it got released as well," which isn't the case. Even if they had unveiled the full trailer at that Winter Direct, it didn't take place before the year it was released anyway.

And I don't think this means 3D World was in production for just a year. I'm sure they started working on it as far back as 3D Land's release. If you meant "has Zelda ever had a one year announce-to-release cycle," the answer is yes. Link Between Worlds, the most recent Zelda, was announced and released within the same year as well.

But we're not talking about Zelda U having a one year announce-to-release cycle. They were ready to show it 3 (?) years ago and decided not to. What we're looking at here is a six month "blowout-to-release" window. We already know that the development cycle will have been at least four years.

Of course it will, there was no point saying that the game would come out in 2015 thrice, more than one year before the actual release date, if they weren't sure of making it. Besides it has been in development for a long time.

Monolith Soft and EAD are two completely different studios. Not that far-fetched honestly. Also Xenoblade's going to be a Summer game IMO.

It is mostly that every Zelda has had a delay in some shape and Xenoblade X is coming out in Q4 as well. It could be true that Nintendo is just very secretive about Star Fox and Zelda for some reason while showing off that it is mostly done at E3. I mean, Kirby: Return to Dreamland came out of nowhere.

Oh yeah, I mostly meant beta to retail development.
I know there is a longer cycle to get from concept to beta.

It's going to be tough, but I think they can release in 2015 :
- As opposed to Skyward Sword, the artstyle is definitive.
- The engine seems done and already extremely solid.
- Lots of details already.
- The dungeons could be all done.
- The obvious stuff missing from the latest demo was the overworld population, they have 10 months to fill it.

We'll see at E3. Can't wait for the next direct feed footage.

I am not sure that Nintendo can release it in time.

I was expecting the same for Smash Bros, but they somehow managed to release it in December 2014.

However, Smash Bros was developed by Namco, which I believe is more capable of accomplishing the required efforts to release the game in time.

Zelda is developed in house. If for whatever reason the game does not satisfy Nintendo, they are not going to rush it, and they probably won't be able to. Unless another team helps them (like Retro Studios).

You are correct. I'm already having parties over the fact that I can't get my most anticipated game sooner and that my preferred videogame company acts as if their leadership was replaced by monkeys several years ago. The imaginary vengeance you want to constitute for some reason sure makes this even sweeter for me.... (lol) You know, although I wouldn't even have a reason to be salty, as I know my posting history best and I'm actually very satisfied with my (very-close to reality) WiiU predictions since 2012. (And now I'm also just pointing to the blatant signs concerning WiiU/Zelda this year)

Official word still takes precedence over random people's speculation.

Even if this is just about videogames, I don't think it's advisable to invariably accept company PR over thinking critically for a sec.

You sound like a glass half full kind of guy.

Wait, what's the second one?

As long as Nintendo announce Mario Galaxy 3, Luigis mansion 3 or Metroid for WiiU I wouldn't mind a Zelda delay.... 😅😅😅😅

There isn't anything else. Xenoblade/Starfox appeal to existing owners, but Zelda will move consoles. It has to come out this year.

You must not buy LE's and Amiibo then. :P

I also don't board hypetrains, couldn't not wait for FFVII to come to N64, never thought motion controls were the future, and many many other things in a very long list of possible disappointments that I never experienced.

It has to come out in the Fall. When would it? March of 2016? No way, Nintendo knows they would send it out to die. It NEEDS to come out this Fall and Nintendo knows that.

There's 11 months to go. That's a pretty long time, and Nintendo probably has an army on it. If it gets delayed, that'll suck, but what can you do? I'm not losing any sleep over this if that's the concern. Still have tons on the Wii U and other systems to keep me happy for YEARS.

This. Exactly.

Nintendo has been very inconsistent.

In America. Only because NoA is fucking incompetent these days.

...or live on another continent. ;)

Oh…haha. The other title I was sure would slip beyond 2015.

I don't think both will make it this year. I won't be surprised if neither do.

Xenoblade Chronicles X will be released in Japan in April, dude. How can one seriously think it won't make it this year for the west, when they even confirmed they're already working on the localisation?

I wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed, but they really are stressing it's coming out 2015. I haven't seen such confidence before haha.

Definitely. Especially when you realize that Nintendo isn't just Nintendo EAD and how they have companies like Monolith Soft who is just about done with their open world game. They'll probably shifting resources to help it progress and most thus keeping it on schedule.

Hopefully. But they can and should take all the time needed to make it fantastic. Can't be having another Skyward Sword situation.

But I'm just glad I can play MM3D this year.

I wouldn't mind a slight delay.

But, this...

It has to come out in the Fall. When would it? March of 2016? No way, Nintendo knows they would send it out to die. It NEEDS to come out this Fall and Nintendo knows that.

...is scary, to me. If Nintendo is thinking the same thing, we might end up with another rushed Zelda. WW turned out alright, but I'm sick of rushed games, and really just want them to give it their all with this Zelda.

It looks fantastic so far. Let's hope that's a good sign that things are on track and not much cutting is going on.
