Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

At this rate I wont understand how someone will triple dip this game just for the graphical update since most of the features will be for free for vanilla players.

Well i've never double or triple dipped for any game in my life, but if there was a Limited edition bundle coming out with some cool collectibles i think i would do it.

This game brought me a lot of joy so i wouldn't mind supporting something that has brought me hours and hours of entertainment.

If there isn't a Collectors edition.... then idk. I can't imagine justifying the money unless the graphical update was something that truly blew me away.

This is just a double dip for me, from PS3 to PS4, and I feel the improved visuals will be worth it. I got a lot of play out of the PS3 version and can't wait to sink more hours into the PS4 version. :)

There's still a lot in the full new version that isn't coming as part of an update to the existing version.

Is it safe to say that PC users should hold out on buying the DLC? I don't want to buy the DLC now, and then have to fork over more money later...

So random post, but I didn't really have any interest in playing DS2 until I saw this gif. Now I want to. When in the game does this happen?

That happens in the game, but graphically the game never looked like that (not even on PC). Maybe this new version will though.

Without ENB? Never. :(

If you have a good ENB preset installed, that castle dungeon is about 50-60% into the game.

I hope not, the torch mechanic sounded miserable.
I've used a fairly dark ENB preset for my second playthrough that demanded torch usage in several of the game's areas, where the mechanic was clearly intended to be used in the original design and it was glorious. Whole new appreciation for areas I blew through without much thought the first time, carefully balancing torch usage (which gives you less defensive options) prompted some great combat encounters and surprising moments. Completely changed my playstyle for these areas, great experience.

Never. In the game this scene looks like a bad joke.

Still salty on what From pulled with this game. Will not buy the PS4 upgrade before reviews confirmed that this game isn't a technical mess.

Wish this also included DS1. I've played it to completion (well, if beating it once counts as that) on PS3, but I'd like to have both on PS4. Gonna be a bit weird to only have the sequel.

Ugh.This actually reminds me how much i hated the sliding-feet animations in DS2 and the stupid shadows around the characters feet that looked as if they were wearing slippers.

I wish they fixed the animations in SOTFS but i know that isn't happening.I'm thankful that the animations in Bloodborne are similar to Demon's/Dark 1.

I'll probably buy the physical release on PS4, but if the PS4 / Xbox One versions do not have the lighting, particles and geometry of the pre-release version from 2013, I will not feel very good about my purchase.

Edit:

TGS 2013 Trailer [ choose 1080p 60fps ]

http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_dark_souls_ii_tgs_trailer-30829_en.html

Obviously a PC build, but even the released PC version didn't look like this, and even ENB mods can only do so much. They cannot bring back the full lighting/shadow effects, nor deal with the simplified geometry detail and particle effects.

It looks like this in the final game (lighting-wise, the framerate is fine even though that doesn't come across in these gifs):

It's still a cool idea but a lot of people are going to get salty at that preview gif heh.

The PC version ran like butter. I'd be shocked if it wasn't 60FPS.

Prepare to be shocked, I'd say. Most HD remasters haven't hit 60fps on the current-gen consoles. I doubt FROM would want to make the game run at 60 when they're putting out Bloodborne at around the same time at 30 fps (probably with dips), either.

I'd love to be wrong, of course.

again, if you have the option, PC is by far the best souls version for both 1 and 2. although there may be slight more traffic online, the 60 FPS makes the fight sequences enjoyable and strategic...you can actully tell when to parry etc. It doesnt just look better...it plays better. I am very upset about bb being 30 despite still preordering etc.

Hello,

any news/information about the new DirectX11 - Options (HBAO+, Tesselation) in DS2?

Or the price for the DX11 upgrade?

Thank You!!!

Just learnt yesterday that PC owners can't even upgrade to the "next gen version", which massively sucks. Espicially taking into consideration the abomination that was the Dark Souls 1 port... You would think they would try to make it up to PC owners, not screw them more...

Not so interested personally anyway. Maybe I'll get around to beating DS2 some day, but more interested in Bloodborne atm

Can all the passive aggressive "gonna wait and see if they return the E3 lightning" comments just please stop? They WILL not return, and plenty of people are fine with this because DS2 was still fine overall. You're acting as if From made a holy vow to deliver a certain level of graphics and until they do, you will sit around and make bitter remarks for all of eternity.

And for the 384395378th time, they didn't put awesome lightning in the entire game and then rip it out just to spite you. They had it in some early areas and then removed it from those to have parity across the game when it turned out that the entire game wouldn't run with everything applied. That's why a few views look like ass - they would have been obscured by darkness.

People won't get over it because they saw it and wanted it and are under the assumption that it was a low-grade switcheroo when the lighting was clearly not like the E3 stuff as release drew closer and closer.

It sucks that we don't have it. But oh fucking well, whining about it won't bring it back. Dark Souls 2 has other flaws other than a lighting engine that doesn't exist.

Have the PS4 version preordered and ready to play day one. I'm going through Lords of the Fallen right now so I've got a lot of Souls to play in the next month.

Oh and I've (just nearly) platinumed the game on PS3. Literally all I have left to do is get to Drangleic to buy two spells and I'll be done. Perfectly happy to purchase a second copy, on day one even.

On consoles. PC version suffered due to parity.

Well I did read it on a steam community post and there was a petition complaining about it, so I presumed it to be true.

From that, it seems there won't be an upgrade from the DX9 to the DX11 version, can't even see anything about a discount for existing DX9 owners.
As I said, I'm not so interested anyway with bloodborne on the way and I haven't even beat DS2 yet, but it still feels a shitty thing to do to not offer any discounts for upgrading.

It's not that much of an assumption when you see all of the areas in the game that were designed around the torch mechanic, yet had the gamma adjusted to make torches all but useless for lighting. I mean, they couldn't even be bothered to remove the now useless sconce assets. Besides the lighting, they did a huge downgrade with the textures as well. I doubt they intentially set out with the goal to "trick" consumers, and it was almost entirely because they couldn't get it to run at an even consistent 30fps on the last gen hardware; but it makes zero sense that they didn't actually go back and fix those mistakes with yet another current gen remaster (cash grab).

Not only was the lighting downgraded including textures but art/assets were missing from the game also. For example in one area of the game, castle of sorts there was a hallway that was filled with furniture and portraits on the wall. In the retail release this hallway was bare with no portraits or furniture. I hope that all the missing assets that had to be removed find their way back. If one hallway was stripped bare, I can't imagine what they had to do with the rest of the game and all the things we didn't get to see for the sake of improving FPS, etc.

That isn't a confirmation at all, just the original press release of pricing. It still remains to be seen if there will be any discount or upgrade method made available on pc to current owners of DS2.

Oh, my mistake, i think about discount if you have original version (which was promised)

I own Demon's Souls for the PS3 and Dark Souls for the 360. I didn't finish either but with the release of Bloodborne I figure I should concentrate on plowing through those two and also the new release of Dark Souls 2 for the PS4 first.

Soooo, given that -- was there ever a re-release of Demon's Souls with additional content? Was there ever additional content? If so I'll pick that up and play it. Dark Souls got the Prepare to Die edition for the PS3 -- the platform I'd rather play -- is that all of the content? If so I'll pick that up along with the new Dark Souls 2. Thanks!

There was no additional content for Demon's Souls.

The Prepare to Die edition of DS should have all the DLC (there was only one DLC for DS). The DLC for DS is some of the best Souls gameplay & fight encounters ever.

I'd definitely recommend playing through them in order of release since you already have Demon's Souls. Demon's Souls is probably my favourite game of last generation.

yep. it's pretty obvious when you play the game that torches were meant to be a lot more important- there's a lot of very obvious kind of washed out areas where you should have needed a torch to see- Drangleic Castle sticks out here.

this also. DS2 would have been getting the kind of reception bloodborne is getting now, had it actually been a true next gen game and not shoehorned into PS360.

Awesome, thanks for the information. I'll play my copy of Demon's Souls then buy and play Dark Souls Prepare to Die for PS3. Hopefully by the time I'm done with that I may be able to pick up Dark Souls 2 PS4 with all the DLC at a discount.

If you happen to own a decent PC, Dark Souls is a lot better on PC due to Durante's patch. Much better resolution & framerate make the game a lot better to play. Good luck & praise the sun! \o/

It's a hard purchase.. considering i've 100%'ed Dark Souls 2 a few times now on PC, and GeDoSaTo made it look great once the bloom and what not was put in.

Guys, I am searching for a short (under five minutes, IIRC) Dark Souls 1 YouTube clip, which I saw in 2013 or something.

It was a big mindfuck because you see those red enemies in there, which I did not saw my whole playthrough.

There was some Japanese music in the background that I loved!

I want it to bring back some memories. :)

No. It was a ballad like that one: Fragile (Wii)

Don't see it happening. Maybe for DS3 if they skip last-gen consoles and focus around Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Maybe.

I dont get this

Outside of the evades and a slight speed up the "feel" remains VERY close between both games to me

From what I've played, admittedly only about an hour or so, it feels just like Souls except the dodge moves a greater distance and faster. If you played a dex build, it's almost the same thing. Very little adjustment required.

So random post, but I didn't really have any interest in playing DS2 until I saw this gif. Now I want to. When in the game does this happen?

Wouldn't it be possible to accomplish this with PS4/X1 now? Or is there another reason for the graphical downgrade?
