Anybody got a yt vid of the dynamic theme?

Hope eu gamers can still get it for buying the game despite no pre order option.

We need this in the OP:

Step 1:

Delete from your PS4

Step 2:

Go to store.playstation.com (or your regions equivalent)

Step 3:

Highlight over your name and press download list

Step 4:

Click on the PS4 version of Grim Fandango and press "download to your PS4"

Reposting in case you missed it.

So I just bought this on PS4 and it won't let me download it. It just gives me the option to start, I hit that and it says "application cannot be found, find on PlayStation store?". I hit that and am presented to just start the game again, which has not downloaded. What gives?
Try downloading the game through your download list on the SEN web store. You should see a page similar to this one.

I got it working by going into the bedroom, deactivating that as my primary, going to the living room, activating that as my primary, clicking "download to PS4" from the "Download List" page on the store, then went back and deactivated the living room PS4 then reactivated the bedroom one. What a mess. I hope this doesn't happen with future preloads too :/

It should also note that your PS4 has to be set to Primary for this to work. :/

Also, I kind of feel bad for this OT just being full of technical issues. Should we start a new thread addressing this?

Loving the cross save between PS4 and Vita. Didn't realize (may have heard and I forgot) that it had this feature. Makes picking up and putting down on the go a cinch.

Gonna play once through with modern controls and play through again later with tank controls. :) Will be 3rd tank control run. Forgot a lot of the game, but who cares? It's like a good movie and never gets old. Been salivating for this for years. Wouldn't mind a Monkey Island rerelease for PS4 or at least put them on PS Now Subscription. I gotta go finish them on my PS3.

Man, I think "remastered" is a bit of a stretch here. They improved the renderer but, for the most part, it really isn't a big upgrade.

I suppose there isn't much that could have been done, though. I doubt they have the original assets used to create the backgrounds so they were stuck with 640x480 pre-rendered assets. The models, though, could have been improved further, I think. The filtering used on the backgrounds isn't great either - there aren't a ton of great options there, I suppose, but I think it could have been handled better.

The Vita port also runs quite poorly which seems insane to me.

Yeah, those backgrounds are really rough.

So clicking on my name, then download list and activating the download from there worked. Ugh, so convoluted, get your shit together Sony.

My dynamic theme is corrupted :S. I try to use it and the PS4 tells me to delete the theme and download it again, but every time I do so it it reappears in the theme library. So I can't download it again because I already have it, and I can't use it because it's corrupted, but I can't delete it because... buh?

Delete the game.

Use the PlayStation webstore to purchase the "free" SKU if you haven't already.

Then use the Download List option on the webstore to add it to your queue.

Oh man this is rough. It's not letting me do this because the playstation I'm using isn't set as my primary console (I'm away for the holidays and using my brother's). I couldn't even sign into the webstore with the computer I was using (cookies enabled), and found out eventually that I could on another computer. Sony I love you... but get your shit together and stop being a miser with fixing up the PSN infrastructure.

This happened to me as well. Go to your notifications then the download queue and delete it from the download list. Then redownload.

Hey guys, is this the first time something like this happened? I mean, how exactly do you fuck up simply putting a game up on a web store :/

Looking at some videos, it appears that the widescreen option just stretches everything out to fill the screen so everything looks a bit wider. Is that the case? At least we have the option for OAR, though it's disappointing they couldn't do anything more than just filling the screen for their widescreen option.

How does this work exactly? Just upload the save with the PS+ icon on vita, the download it again on PS4? I plan starting with the vita version on my lunch break.

There are 4 save slots and 3 of the slots in Grim have cloud icons. I saved on my PS4 and then when I loaded my Vita version it asked me if I wanted to download or overwrite the Cloud Save sllot.

Having the same issues as others have mentioned. I'll try going through my browser.. So ridiculous/disappointing . totally defeated the purpose of pre ordering and pre loading

I'm downloading the Steam version right now, and hopefully I won't run into any issue, and also I hope they solve all the bugs and stuff soon.

Now, all those technical issues aside, for both PS4 and PC. I'm not feeling like this is a trully well done remaster after all. I just bought it because it was cheap in Steam, and because I've never played Grim Fandango.

But come on, by what I've been reading, this "remaster" is more like a re-release, with some control mods in the package:
1- No true 16:9 support.
2- No auto-saving.
3- No hints system.
4- No big graphical improvements.

I would expect more of a "remaster". But maybe I'm expecting a lot, since I just played Resident Evil Remaster HD, and that was pretty awesome.

Awesome. Just checked the vita version and see the cloud icons. Thanks!

It's a philosophical thing more than anything else I suppose, I'm actually glad they didn't implement 1 & 4 because that's too many changes to a game that looks surprisingly good today. If they had the models to rerender the backgrounds to enable 1 then maybe but I prefer old films in 4:3 and I prefer old games in the same AR as they released with. RE ReMake HD is a very similar job to what happened with GF it's just that the ReMake already did all that work in the GC days so it seems more dramatically improved over the PS1 original (ie ReMake HD is more or less a re-release by your terms same as GF). I actually play the ReMake in 4:3 as well because I dislike how the dynamic cropping works and prefer the full 4:3 frame.

I can totally see points 2 & 3 though, although in adventure games I tend to dislike auto-saves as they can 'lock in' dialogue choices I'm not happy with but that's a personal thing. It's the same as the ribbon mechanic in ReMake in some ways, that was the original design and they chose not to change it. I actually like this style of remaster but again that's a personal preference thing in the end.

The download finished and it runs just right. I did check the theme this morning and the theme was corrupted. What I had to do was go over to Notifications and delete the information under "Downloads" then I went back to themes (under settings) and deleted/installed it again. Now they are both working properly.

Thanks man, I'll do that.

Yes. It fixes the problem.

I believe it is wise to always "delete the notifications". That way everything stays clear. I typically do it, but I didn't do it before I called it a night.

I can confirm the game is in spanish if you buy the game from the us store and you are from spain. The no real 16:9 support is the only thing i dont like for the moment.

How in the bloody hell did they manage to screw this preload up sp much. I was *this* close to thinking that initializing PS4 is my only option left before I read that you can try and initiate the download from the website. Yes, I preloaded the game the other day, yes I deleted it reading that I have to if I want to play the game at all, and yes, I got into an infinite loop of the PS4 store asking me to Start the game I just deleted, and then redirecting me to that exact same store page to Start it again. Thankfully, initiating download from the website worked, and I got to play the game, by FFS, what do they even do to make a process that clearly works on a number of other games, fail in just this one case? I even read that you could even get into some kind of infinite download loop if you initiate the download from the website, but that thankfully didn't happen to me. I guess the trick was to initiate the download from the download list, and not from the game's store page, which is incredibly arbitrary.

Game is is fantastic and the theme looks great too, but I was sweating and cursing under my breath for good 15 minutes there, trying everything I could think of - rebuilding the database, restoring licenses, going into library, rebooting over and over...

16:9 support would be especially shit in this case because they didn't have the means of recreating the backgrounds with the original assets so they were stuck with the original renders. Supporting 16:9 would mean that the already low resolution screens would have been scaled up even further.

In other words, it would look terrible without a full remake. They did a good job with what they had.

Just a question, but shouldn't there maybe be a separate thread for technical issues? That way maybe we can get to discussing the actual game here.

I agree, it's a huge stretch to call this a remaster. I've seen other "remasters" ripped apart on GAF for less but this seemingly gets a pass "cause it's Grim Fandango" but that makes it worse, it should have had more done to it, if ever there was a game worthy of a full 1-1 remake, this is it.

Before anyone says "But it's only $15" How much were the Monkey Island special editions on 360?

I'm very happy with the quality of the remaster. New character lighting and shadowing is fantastic and blends with the backgrounds much better than the original did. Controls work great, and everything sounds great. I knew that re-rendering backgrounds was probably never going to happen because the originals must have been rendered on software that probably wouldn't even work today. Still, it would be nice if they could at least clean up some edges manually, like in the first scene where Manny stands in front of that tube, you can see the chunky pixel edge there as he passes behind it. How difficult would have been to at least clean up stuff like that?

The only thing that's weird is that the game doesn't have auto saving. Why not? SCUMMVM supports it, (or in case of Grim Fandango, ResidualVM). You can't get permanently stuck in this game so that you have to reload some earlier save state, so there's nothing like that preventing autosave system from existing.

That's a good idea. There's a lot I want to say on the issue but I don't want to derail the thread or throw bad vibes at the people already enjoying the game.

It's one of the few properly remastered games on the market because it is not a revisionist piece of work, unless you count the redone soundtrack which frankly doesn't sound any different from the original.

I wonder how I can insure I get "The Right Way" Achievement for Tank Controls.

I've been exclusively using the controls, but I also use the mouse to look around the room for objects to interact with.
