Grim Fandango Remastered |OT| The Excelsior Line Edition

You're both right. But this one is for sure harder then Monkey Island 1.

Will not keep forcing into guides though. It really kills the purpose of it.

Just wait until Year 2. It was way more difficult than year 1 for me.

Why does this preorder unlock in 8 hours still? Is it not the 27th?

Check the OP for a fix.

Well, that is just stupid.

Very. It's why I've only pre-ordered 2 games on PSN both of them remasters

Quick question for people that have actually played this all the way through. Does the game have logical solutions, or is it something ridiculous like most adventure games? Example: get tire, get paste, get shoe lace, tie tire; paste; and shoe lace together to create an inner tube.

I'd say 75% logical 25% adventure game solutions.

So if I used someone's account that has the theme active could I sign in with their account to download it and then go back to my default account and use it?

Might have to go to the B/S/T thread to see if I can get someone to do this for $$$

I just checked, and I don't think it's possible. I don't think the primary/secondary part is an issue as another poster surmised, because I got my theme purchased on a secondary system and can use it on another secondary system. But it was purchased in my account. If I switch to another account on the ps4 running the theme then it's locked out.

I know how you feel man, the only pre-order I ever made was for this game just for the theme, and in the end I have to play it later than everyone else as a result. So I'm a bit bummed too, but I'm almost certain that the theme will be made available later on. Nowadays the trend for gaming is to monetize everything, and I can't see this case being an exception.

It's logical for the most part, yet still I can guarantee you'll get stuck. It's freakin' hard as far as adventure games go.

I hope so :(

Still holding out for the store update to fix everything. Otherwise I will be very sad. I haven't even had the motivation to launch the game

Would this work?

Seems like I would have to make their PS4 my primary PS4?

Fuck...no one will go for this...

So the trophies
seem to be listed in the order they are available in the game
, but I'm at the start of Year 2 and can't figure out
how to catch up on how the pigeons are doing.

My issue is a little different from the one described in the OP- I pre-ordered this morning, but the game hasn't appeared in my download list at all. Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure you won't get the theme, and thats literally driving some Gaffers mad.

It would be good if Sony extended the theme to people who purchase on day one (or even week one), since the preorders were cut off early without advance notice.

I'm not going to lose sleep over missing out on a theme--I'd be much angrier about the situation if this was in-game content. Still, it would be a nice gesture anyway.

You guys are lucky. I've got nothing over here.

Did you try going to PS Store on the Web (using your computer) and viewing your download list there? That's what I had to do to initiate the download on the PS4 system.

No, you would be opening up a whole new can of worms and losing a lot of privileges for PSN services as well. I say wait a few days and see how this turns out. If it's looking like there's no luck then make a (non-angry) thread getting people to petition on whether or not they want Sony to make the theme available. Some people might think its a bit much, but a lot of people on this thread have already showed interest, and hey, we're all gaming enthusiasts here and some games we just REALLY like.

Why did this have to happen to my favourite game of all time. I am so down =\

Well, so far, it's Grim Fandango. The remastered lighting is pretty glitchy and a bit unpolished, especially shadows which look rough unfortunately. Some other stuff looks a little bit ropey, like in the Mail sorting room, the layered cutouts have rough edges. I suppose there are many limitations at play and it's not exactly a big budget release, even though it got prominent E3 fanfare when it was announced. I suppose that's the disappointing thing, the promise of really cleaning up the graphics hasn't really come off. In the end, it's Grim Fandango, for £12, which is playable on modern machines with a few bells and whistles. Of course, it's an absolutely classic game and still holds up really well; writing, VA, design, puzzles, music etc. It's all classic stuff.

Steam version btw.

It's been a long time, but I remember there were a lot of annoying puzzles. It's the main reason I'm hesitant to replay this.

When you pick up the message from Salvador, on the table in the club, keep using it from your inventory until the entry that begins about the new talent of the pigeons.

I'm worried I've missed the Moon one.

The game has contextual puzzles which make logical sense in the story. So, you know what the puzzle is you have to solve, but often they are fiendishly difficult to work out. In some cases items or environment objects have multiple functions and often you don't realise they can function in that way, leading to wandering around for hours until you realise you had the right thing all along. It's hard to explain, but I think a lot of newcomers are going to struggle with it.

I didn't think that this game would get a platinum trophy, neat.

I'm assuming that I need a guide and that most of them are missable, yes? And I'm not sure about the "tank controls" trophy, do you activate that before the game starts or something?

So what do you newcomers think of the game so far? Yeah, the puzzles are tough.

Played 3 hours last night and made maybe 30 mins of progress. I spent over an hour just wandering around the main hallway near your office looking for what to do next. Lol.

It's tough, but I refuse to check a walkthrough.

I like it so far! I'm not too far into the game, but I did encounter a few puzzles that required a little creative thinking.

While browsing this thread, I inadvertently clicked on an early spoiler in post # 796 here by DarkChronic, but fortunately I had already done everything that the spoiler described.

Thank you! I completely missed that item.

Agreed with Porcile about the lighting, it has got some imperfections not visible in the trailers. Probably just down to different cards on the PC.

I just bought the game via PS4 after looking forward to it all day and when the download list popped up, only the Vita version was listed along with the PS4 tag blanked out. When I clicked on it, it said something like "Full PS4 Content unlocked, no need to download" or similar.

Now under my library it appears like a normal game, but when I click "start" it takes me to the PlayStation Store, where there is no link to download.

Sorry if this is a well-known problem. I figured I'd post while I wait for the slow-ass PC PSN portal to load. I buy a lot of games though, and no cross-buy title has ever done this shit.

Use the web store to start the download on PS4:

We need this in the OP:

Step 1:

Delete from your PS4

Step 2:

Go to store.playstation.com (or your regions equivalent)

Step 3:

Highlight over your name and press download list

Step 4:

Click on the PS4 version of Grim Fandango and press "download to your PS4"

First time playing this and I've just reached The Petrified Forest.

Loving it so far. Some of the puzzles have been a little obtuse, but they're not too difficult so far. At least I don't have to combine a lot of random shit together.

So long as you keep looking at, talking to, trying to pick up or use everything, you'll probably get this without a guide. Keep a save at the start of each year so you can go back and get any missed achievements.

I'm buying this game (got to support this) but i'm not sure yet if i'm going to replay it. I have very fond memories of playing and finishing Grim Fandango when i bought it at the original release. And i love adventure games. However, over the years, my patience for some of the more obscure puzzles (the ones where you end up combining everything with everything to progress) has seriously diminished unfortunately. I'm also wondering if the game has aged well visually?

All these things make me wonder if i should just keep my fond memories forever or play the game again... Hmm...

I'm with you, thinking I'm more likely to buy and support (have the box around here somewhere from original release). Trying to figure out what gives DF a bigger cut and I'm thinking it's probably GoG, but, I'm not sure.

downloading again from download list do I need to be worried about the countdown timer or is that thing simply glitched? It says 5hrs50mins when the game released last night at midnight

Valve and GOG both take the customary 30% cut.

So I just sat down at the table
in the roulette room
and talked to the man sitting there and immediately said to myself "that's supposed to be Peter Lorre". And then I listened to the commentary, and of course it is.
Grim Fandango is not for people who don't know any of the old film noir classics.
Of course you can still play it, but you will miss out on many details which you won't be able to appreciate.

I was 10 when Grim Fandango came out and it's been my favourite game ever since then. I'd never seen Casablanca before I played it. Years later I finally watched it and it's fun seeing just how much Grim Fandango plays homage to it. It's now my favourite movie too.

It's up and buyable on the italian store, I'm already downloading it on both PS4 and Vita.
If you're in the UK, maybe you still can't buy it because is not January 28th yet?

Oh well, at least that's a good indication it's going up at midnight.
