Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

This is why Exclusives are stupid. Pretty much limits the Amiibo to just ONE corporation. And then if those corporations fuck up (their release dates, shipping allocations, their policies like 1 per customer)....you just have to take it bending over. Because it's your only option.

Whereas with other Amiibos, you can just take your business elsewhere if one of the other companies are doing a bad job. That is the issue with Lucario IMO. TRU is doing an awful job with it.

I've heard about the port workers strike before, can anyone tell me how this relates to Amiibo stock? For instance, does the strike just mean we receive some characters later than others (Mega Man, Sonic) or does it also mean that initial shipments are low so we will be seeing more restocks of characters like Lucario.

Yeah, I fully expected Toys R Us to fuck up Lucario, and I think the same will happen with Best Buy and Meta-Knight. Even though Shulk stock will be really low, I think Gamestop will do the best job about getting the figure out to those that preordered although it is just a hunch.

Agreed. I will likely never return to a TRU for anything after this. I mean how does a store have 0 to sell...NONE!

there wouldn't be a huge demand for Meta Knight if he weren't best buy exclusive , everyone jumped off the bandwagon when he was nerfed in smash

i would have bought him cause hes cool as fuck but probably cant now haha, oh well.

all i want are ROB , pac man, dr mario, Mr game and watch and duck hunt dog, Ness and maybe falco, and maybe charizard, maybe olimar
lol wait i want more now :P

I had no idea Lucario had a deep fanbase, while in line a girl was holding about 4 lucario plush's on her with her pre order, she brought them from home i guess.
i guess she was scared someone would call her a scalper cause she had 2 or more pre order slips but nobody said anything .

i should have bought toon link and bowser earlier in the week, all gone now :(
I hope my shulk pre order goes smoothly

NoA x Nintendo really loves to not make more money, in addition to not putting pokemon blue/red on 3DS eshop vc (it'll sell big for nostalgia ) there were about 15 people in line at opening and they had only 3 for non pre orders, i along with the lucario plush girl and this other guy had pre orders

Yeah, he actually is pretty popular. He is now in 3 Smash games. My 10 year old nephew became a huge fan of his with Brawl. He started playing the main Pokemon games in 2013 with X and Y and the first Pokemon he wanted was Lucario. I showed him how to catch Riolu and happiness evolve it.

You did that's why I've been asking my Targets to double check. Some of them are not getting the message. I would not believe one Target worker saying Corporate is implementing the policy, that's why I was double checking. It would be horrible if I get there Sunday and they didn't know about the policy before it's too late.

Fair enough, you are right about that.

I'm just done with amiibos. They're useless anyway and scalpers ruined all the fun.

I have a job and a family and a life. I'm not camping out at some store to beat some no life asshole who wants to make $20 on an amiibo.

I really want ness but I can smell the scalper desires and sweaty palms on that one from a mile away.

Looking back, I would've preordered every single Amiibo that I had a chance to had I known that the stock situation would be so dire. Not thinking about collecting these things until I got my hands on a few of them certainly didn't help matters.

I also had misplaced faith that only "niche" characters would get pitiful stock. (FE cast, Shulk, Little Mac) Silly me, we are now freaking out over the availability of one of the most popular Pokemon.

It sounds like it hasn't been a full-blown strike, just a slowdown as they're protesting some unsafe working conditions and thus refusing to work in those conditions or limiting how many people do the job. It's been having a huge effect on all sorts of imports from Asia, slowing them waaaay down. It's likely why these release dates are so up in the air, but I also have learned never to underestimate NOA incompetence/apathy.

Yeah, but even that had its problems. A lot of peopled missed out on Rosalina online preorders because of Target doing them at like 3am.

Yeah, if Target on Sunday turns out to be anything like the TRU stories I'm hearing today, I with ya brother. They're just not worth this much hassle and frustration.

still pretty bad...have a parcel stuck since the 22nd having left japan

It sucks but I try to make a game out of it.

I remember when TPP Red was going on people were basically begging Nintendo to put Red/Blue on the eshop, they would've made a killing in those 2 weeks if they were willing. It could be a super half-assed rip of the game and it still would've sold gangbusters.

So I arrived at myTRU at 7:30 and there was 3 more people already waiting. The storeonly had 2 Lucarios, and they didn´t take any preorders.

It pretty much means they can get Lucarios at any moment and they´ll go to whoever gets it, I´m so screwed.

Don´t let me down with my preorders TRU.

Went to Bay Area TRU at opening, about 15 people in line so I just went inside to check things out. Employees seemed really well prepared and friendly. They only had 2 nonpreoder Lucario's but handed out one per person Bowser, Toon Link, and a couple Sheiks from behind the counter. They had several boxes of Bowser and Toon Link, but I decided to just wait for my Amazon order on those two.

Which location was this at? Still need to use my TRU coupons...

It took them years to capitalize on the obvious business decision of making Nintendo Skylanders, so I don't put it past them to not understand at all the demands of their audience.

The workers sound fully justified in that scenario. As for figures, yeah I'm worried that this only effects when characters get released such as the scattered Wave 2 and 3 release dates, rather than changing when (nonexistant) restocks come in.

Yeah, but even that had its problems. A lot of peopled missed out on Rosalina online preorders because of Target doing them at like 3am.

On the flipside Rosalina (anecdotal findings) seems like she will have the largest initial stock of any of the exclusives. Doesn't really matter though since she will be gone ASAP like the rest.

At this point I'm just concerned if we will be seeing ANY restocks on characters from Wave 3 not named Bowser and Toon Link.

The few people I know who actually preordered Rosalina from Target either got 1 and are keeping it... or they bought like 12 and they refuse to sell at cost because they are douchey scalpers.

Azula/Monomoke,

I'm glad that you came back to take a part of Amiibro once again! But can you really do me a favor?

If you are going to have another episode of meltdown or considerating to quit once again. Please don't make the posts about it and leave quietly.

I don't meant to sound mean. I felt genuinely bad for you when some people ganged on you because they got fed up too easily so I don't really want to witness the situation again.

Really debating whether or not to go to Target 2/1 based on the shortages, scalpers, and collectors trying to get them

That is horrific. How did they even let that happen?

It was ugly, she jumped in front of people in line. I've never seen a woman this big run like that. She went behind the counter, grabbed 3 from the box, and made a b-line to the front registers. We were standing in electronics, and it happened so quick most people didn't notice.

I hung around a bit after posting my original post talking to one of the people in line about the amiibo craze and how we were frustrated with availability, really cool guy, and we overheard the managers talking about confronting the lady, and she said something along the lines of "I grabbed them first, there's no limit you can enforce on me, you should have organized this launch better..." which confuses me, because there was nothing wrong with their system, they had us wait in line, checked our preorder slips, provided our amiibos and we were done.

She, broke the rules (I guess, I dunno, she went somewhere she wasn't supposed to), opened up a box of Toys R Us Shipment, grabbed 3, and then ran to the front to avoid the people in Electronics.

My question is why weren't the cops called, couldn't it be considered stealing?

Seems like all exclusives so far have had issues.

Rosalina had small preorder periods online in the USA and then the last minute change for Canadians yesterday. Lucario is in short supply and being given out with no limit in some places. Meta Knight will have no nonpreorders so it is basically gone now. Shulk seems to not be able to meet preorder demand let alone extras.

Crazy shit. You would think there would be a bunch since all the stock for one Amiibo is going to one retailer versus all. Yet they seem to have the least stock.

then people would have complained gangbusters, too. just like they would have about the lack of connectivity with other people playing the game for trading and such. plus that game has aged pretty terribly.

Should I be happy because I don't have a family and almost no life besides work? Probably not... In fact, I think I collect Amiibos in part because I'm feeling deeply depressed.

But at least, I just received Rosalina, and I'm done with the first 24. Waiting for Wave 3b to hit Europe now...

:/

Yeah, my town has like 8 Targets, so I'm going to go to one relatively out of the way and show up super early. The weather is relatively nice down here in Texas right now, so it shouldn't be bad... plus I'll bring my 3DS.

Not really seeing stealing no. But there was certainly enough there to ask her to leave. I'd say what she did is closer to trespassing than stealing.

Went to my toys r us this morning and there were 2 boxes sitting on the counter. one of the customers went behind the counter and got the boxes, opened them up and grabbed 3 lucarios. She rushed to the front and paid for them and left. Apparently those were preorders. the managers were confused and had no idea what to do about it, but 3 people didn't get their preorders now. I had 1 preorder and was lucky enough to get mine.

Sucks. That woman was a bitch

Holy crap...that's really sad and pathetic.

She definitely took their property and I mean, it's partially them to blame for no one hiding them or being in that area, but she took something she shouldn't have either.

So, went to TRU this morning. It was raining, and the TRU I went to was pretty dead last time I was there, so I had hoped that would help my odds. Got there at 10:00 on the dot, in time to see a line of 15 or so people being let in. Dammit. I go in anyway and of course people are power walking to electronics already (though some weren't and were apparently just there early for normal shopping??). I'm thinking at LEAST one has to be a scalper, and of course I see everyone trying to get Lucario, so I figure I'm screwed...

... But then I see people at the front are passing Lucarios around to everyone, asking who still needs one, who needs Toon Link, etc. I raise my hand, a guy passes me Lucario, and then that was it: everyone there got exactly one Lucario, no more, no less, and we all walked over to checkout and paid. It was goddamn magical. Everyone was chatting about how they thought they wouldn't get one, whether they were going for the full series, just there rates, or just favorites, etc. Everyone left happy. The end.

The Smash line of Amiibos just needs to end asap. This is why Amiibos are so crazy. Once we get into games that don't include EVERY NINTENDO CHARACTER we will have a mor manageable item to collect.

Not really seeing stealing no. But there was certainly enough there to ask her to leave. I'd say what she did is closer to trespassing than stealing.

Indeed. Stealing is a bad choice of a word. I feel so bad for one of the ladies who didn't get hers. She had it for her 8 year old daughter who was a HUGE Pokemon fan.

Man, reading this thread is such a bummer, it almost takes the wind out of my sails about getting one. Its just not as fun if so many other people who clearly should have these things, don't get them. I can't believe Nintendo is just letting this happen without a word, and is just sitting back and letting money fly out the door.

I doubt Nintendo will get better with supply of these Amiibos anytime soon. They probably already have a contract to make a certain amount and it would require a large amount of money to increase manufacturing of these toys. So get them while you can GAF!

Trespass not stealing.

Although you could perhaps get technical since those items were already paid for by someone else hence stealing from that person

Working on the other one...

Amiibro colors for a 2 year old me dressed in Korean warrior garb?

Welp. I considered just not posting again in the first place. I wanted to just keep to myself (hence why I made no post after my name change). I only came back to help out my friend Jason with Lucario.

Perhaps I should just go back to that. Probably for the best tbh. I kind of wanted to keep to myself, and not be apart of any community for the time being (just making one off posts in the gaming section). Which again, is why I never said anything about my name change. I'll hand over the google doc to someone else, and won't post anymore.

Sorry for causing any issues. If anyone still needs amiibos i promised, I will get them out to you. Stay on top of me by giving me a PM reminder as I have a lot going on (my Japan trip coming up, just had a surgery 2 days ago, and been going to the doctors).

Again, sorry for popping back in.

All these horror stories from here and reddit make me feel glad i dont buy these in stores but feel bad for all my amiibros who have to deal with such bullshit

Something drastic needs to be done ASAP. It's just not fun anymore. God damn it, Nintendo, Please do something!!!

I have a job and a family and a life. I'm not camping out at some store to beat some no life asshole who wants to make $20 on an amiibo.

I really want ness but I can smell the scalper desires and sweaty palms on that one from a mile away.

Could not agree more. I love Nintendo. I love Nintendo characters, and I wanted Amiibo of the characters I like (which is why I am cool with skipping Meta Knight and Dedede, I have never even played a single Kirby game) but it's to the point where it will be nearly impossible to get some of these because people will camp out outside of stores before they open and when I roll in at 4:30 after work, all of the 'rare' figures will be on eBay already. I want Ness -- I still own my original copy of Earthbound, and never thought I would see a figure released in the US. I want Mega Man (because he's Mega Man), and Pac Man, and Olimar because I love the hell out of the Pikmin games. I want Rosalina because the Mario Galaxy games are my favorite games of last gen. But I will not be able to keep up with people who know they can buy all of a figure and sell them for $30.

It's like Mondo posters -- maybe 300 people can buy one, and that business model works for them because hype goes through the roof, but Nintendo is making items that are meant to be mass market. What point is there to have functionality for Toad in the Toad game if a small fraction of people can unlock it? NoA gets nothing from people selling these for $45 so they can unlock Pixel Toad. In the end though, I guess it works since I sure have gone to plenty of stores and websites trying to find these things, but I'm not sure it was time well spent.

Smash brothers was a horrible launch product for Amiibo, Mario Party 10 would have been much better as Nintendo would have been able to manage demand with way fewer characters.

What TRU were you at? The Meadows store was a mess and I know there were some who left without one.
