You'll play as Frank Jaeger in the events leading up to his appearance in MGS V

Didnt know this game had so much love. Never played it.

Since I like hack'n slash, I may give it a chance before they release the 2nd game.

I wasn't a fan of MGS2 Raiden,

MGS4 Raiden was definitely cooler but he had some absolutely groan worthy lines like "it even rained on my birthday"

MGR Raiden was full blown balls to the wall "take it to 11" level stuff

I don't know how anybody thinks that Raiden saying lines like "It's time for Jack to let 'er rip." is cool. Like sure Raiden whined before, but now his character is DmC levels of shit.

Rising could have been good, but then Platinum Games had to mix in their shitty humor and over-blown style into it. I don't want to play a game where the soundtrack sounds like remixes of Greenday songs, and the dialogue sounds like it was written by a teenager.

I was hoping to wake up to a MGSV release date but I'll take this. Totally redeemed. Platinum killed it with barely any dev time so I can't even imagine what they'll pull off now.

Oh lawd.

"Time for Jack to let 'er rip" is more classic DMC cheese than DmC try-hard stuff. To be fair, in my opinion that's probably the most groan-worthy Raiden moment in MGR.

Complaining about shitty humor and over-blown style makes me wonder if you remember much about the Kojima Metal Gear games though. Because it's not like a lot of that was foreign to the franchise before Platinum stepped in. Armstrong, for example, is pretty much an amalgamation of previous Metal Gear bosses.

Finally the touchpad will have a sense! Slice the enemies with this will be incredibly more conformable. I hate the stick controls in the first MGR, so tiring.

Nah, it just makes him sound like a dork which is why Raiden is such a fun character in Metal Gear Rising (when he's not going through his Jack is Back brooding period). Raiden is not a badass in MGR, he's still the same huge doofus from MGS2 but now he doesn't whine as much any more.

And that's just the way we like him!

I felt the entire game is tongue in cheek, where the drama revolves around shit that is completely insane.

George got cut in half and then was pieced back together in a matter of hours or days. Raiden getting his eye cut out (which is one of the last body parts he still orignally had) warranted a hearty "damn!". The main antagonist ends up being a United States senator that says he wanted to cause "another 9/11". One of the main conflicts is building child soldiers by taking their brains and training them in VR.

The tone is consistently goofy, jarring, and fantastical.

I disagree, a majority of the story is in the optional codec conversations, and those are generally at about a MGS1 level of grounded-ness.

MGS2's story is still way more out there than Revengeance, it's mostly the action scenes that are dialed up to 11 in MGR.

Yeaahhhhhh soonnnnnn. This is going to be glorious.

Not a massive fan of this type of action game, but MGR blew my socks off. Not just because it's Metal Gear, but because it's awesome.

I can see it being PS4 exclusive, but I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Day one, Metal Gear Rising is my all-time favorite character action game. Given a fully fleshed out development time, I'm sure Platinum will do amazing things. Hopefully it'll still be a sequel though, my hype would diminish slightly if we were Grey Fox instead of Raiden.

I think it might be PS4/PC like SF5. Kojima is showing increasing love to the PC. Still as long as its on PS4 I'm happy.

Now that Raiden has had a sword fight with both an ex-president and a presidential candidate, the last boss should be the straight up president.

Is it going to be shown soon? Is there some kind of conference or something? I have no idea what's going on with this Taipei deal.

Just please keep the parry mechanic. It was so much more satisfying than blocking.

If they do, then they need to rework it slightly. Mastering the parry essentially broke the game in terms of effectiveness, and it often encouraged 'restart' behavior for players that didn't so it right.

I'm ok with both block and parry, but just using the same system exactly would be a mistake IMO.

Well it's not exactly the same thing. If Rising 2 will use the touchpad properly the difference will be huge compared the sticks and incredibly more comfortable.

Removing parrying is just as likely as removing zandatsu - it was the core of the entire combat system. Though perhaps better tutorials would be nice; it's really intuitive once it clicks, but the game doesn't initially help you approach it in the right way at all.

Agreed.

Unless we get Mahou Shoujo Sunnytan, then I'm fine with that too.

Raiden, Sunny, George, Rose, Little John and Bladewolf as a Super Sentai team is the ideal scenario for MGR2's protagonists.

Hopefully it'll still be a sequel though, my hype would diminish slightly if we were Grey Fox instead of Raiden.

I'm hoping for it to be a sequel as well - while Grey Fox is still the more popular character, following Raiden and the world established in the first game has so much more potential than trying to shoehorn in more retcons into Grey Fox's backstory so you can contrive a half-functional plot - Null fighting PW AIs in some inconsequential corner of the Cipher clusterfuck is a much less appealing prospect compared to a true sequel unburdened by the events of prior games.

Though the Area 51 scenario would still make a good tutorial - it's nowhere near substantial enough for a whole game, which would be subject to the same restraints as a prequel; but as a flashback sequence it's an interesting scenario that hasn't been fleshed out at all, which could also easily be tied into an original plot occurring after MGR1.

Oh fuck yes. Hopefully it's not as feature and content bare as the 1st one. Even still it was one of the best action games ever.

Oh god I'm hyped.
