Project Scissors: NightCry (Clock Tower Spiritual Successor) PC Kickstarter ($300k)

Looks deader than dead now.

One of the problems with crowdfunding is that a bad start can be a death sentence as would be backers see a campaign so far from its goal and think there's no point.

IGN wrote stories on the game in the past, but for whatever reason have yet to do one on the Kickstarter. Other outlets like Kotaku, Gamespot and Joystiq (RIP) haven't covered it either.

You always want to launch a Kickstarter in the middle of the week in the morning around 9-10 am Pacific time - that gives you the best chance for media coverage. Middle of the night on a weekend is literally the worst time you could launch a kickstarter.

Also, it's a very good idea to widely publicize in advance when your kickstarter is going to go live. That way, the diehard fans are likely to hear about it and pledge ASAP which makes it look like your Kickstarter has good momentum right from the start.

I only found out about this now and am really surprised by how badly this is doing.

Then again, I haven't kickstarted anything in ages after spending way too much money on games I ended up having very little interest in.

Update #4

Additional Character Bios and sketches from the Ace Attorney guy!

I originally wanted to back this. However, I'm not really impressed with how it looks. I know they haven't optimized it for PC which explains the poor framerate and such. However, I don't like the main character's design. I like big breast as much as the next guy, but really... Her design just puts me off. I was not impressed at all with the short film. I expected much better of Takashi Shimizu.

I guess I'm also not that huge on the point and click interface either. I'd rather have direct control like Haunting Ground. I think in the end I was expecting something more visually appealing and impressive. I know this is a port of the Vita version but still. They should have shown something more substantial.

Well, not even the thread title mentions that people like Ito or Yamane are on board for this. :/

Speaking of names, they've just pushed out another message from a friend of the project:

Hi everyone!

We’re still trucking along with great updates in the days to come, but first, we wanted to share a message we received from one of our good friends. See for yourself!

Ryoji Akagawa (Game Producer, “Arc the Lad” series, "Rurouni Kenshin" game series)

“I have to say, I have really high hopes for the first horror game to be created by the Clock Tower series’ Mr. Kono in 20 years. Considering all the fear he’s been able inspire in his past works despite the limited technical resources available, I can’t help but be excited to see what kind of an experience he’s going to outdo himself with this time. And on top of that there’s all the A-list staff he has onboard... I just can’t wait!

I highly encourage everyone out there to support this project.”

a KS-funded PC port was the best chance for an international release. I don't foresee any of the usual suspects picking up the Vita version, and the mobile version would have to come from the developers themselves (a lower priority to be sure).

c'mon you guys, get with it already.

Fuck it, I backed for $40 buckaroos.

Im definitely down for the Vita version.

I hope the PC version has options for various filters.

"Hey everyone!

We’ve got some incredibly awesome updates coming in the next couple days, but what would be the point if we didn’t set the scene?

That’s why today we’re revealing an in-depth look at the story of NightCry!"

IMO I really hope they have a playable demo or a gameplay video or something that gets some more attention.

There has been almost 0 publicity about this KS. If it were more spread out I bet many people would have pledged considering the talent behind it.

Considering how this KS is just for one version of the game, and the other versions are said to coming regardless of what happens with this KS, I'm not sure more awareness would matter that much unless there's a huge fanbase for this stuff on PC.

Uggh how hard can it be to model a realistic female proportioned body. And that running animation lol

I do hope this makes it though.

Cool.

Expected it to be Steam and Playism (DRM free) but I knew some backers were asking about that.

Why on earth isn't the Silent Hill fanbase on this?

Yeah, and everyone playing REmake HD right now.

I'm guessing they just haven't heard about it.

Looks rough (understandable) but the music and sound effects are amazing

Yeah, I think it has a ton of potential, and IMO desperately needs a PC version. Horror is way more suited to a big screen in the first place. Proper framerate wouldn't hurt either. (although it is obviously early footage)

The silent hill fanbase has awful taste for the most part. I'm just content with getting it on vita since I have no interest in a pc version so the kickstarter really doesn't appeal to me. If we were talking about a console port I'd have backed it by now.

Back it anyway since it's obvious the big screen version is the one they actually want to make. :P

A console port probably wouldn't be that out of the question if the PC port is successful enough to fund those.
