Persona 5 New Trailer

For some reason I've never played Persona, I could never understand how people always seemed to be so positive about the games. Used to love older JRPGs, so people think it's worth me trying this if I've not played any of the others?

The UI and motion design are incredible. So nice to see some real effort put into these aspects of the game (ATLUS really seem to care about the audio-visual presentation, going by P4 and Catherine). Just wonderful!

Those menus are amazing, what? The store menus (I'm especially digging the blue one) are incredible.

Yeah, these are better.

Hot damn were those menu screens hype, so stylish!

Made some quick gifs

If they've redone demon models in P5, I'm now looking forward to hopefully a new range of MegaTen games.

They need to abuse those assets for the HD consoles already.

Well, the story will be independent of them so you don't necessarily need to play the previous ones. However I'd still recommend people play P3 and P4 as they're great games.

I wish Persona games would come out earlier in a console generation. Then they'll have a chance to shine. Can't be excited about PS3-level graphics in 2015...

So they always lack mass appeal, which is a tragedy.

It is coming out for ps3 AND ps4...so it will have a very wide audience this time around.

Wish i could play this on my xbox.

I understand where you come from... although, the Xbox is pretty much dead as a brand for most devs. Unless Microsoft publishes the games of studios not from Square, Capcom, Konami or Bandai, I don't expect much support from the Japanese devs for the Xbox One.

There is something in this game from the little I've seen that makes me quite curious and interested in playing it and yet, I can't really tell what it is my good GAFfers.

For reference, I have never played P4 on the PS Vita even if I've been tempted several times to order a copy. It's just a game that seems to never drop in price and I have always other priorities but I hope I can manage to play it some day. With Persona 5 I can see myself playing early on. I think the part where most of my interest comes is from the chat between the characters, I found this to be very relaxing while there is a soundtrack in the background and it's clear that there is a lot of attention to the art style in this game. I played and finished Catherine back in the day and for those who played this game you know those moments when you are relaxing in the bar, talking to others while drinking, texting and so on. I love those parts of that game so this might be why my interest in this game is rising. I wonder if this sounds silly.

I have a bit to catch up on the title and I know my interest may sound odd but honestly, I can't wait to see more of it.

Everything was perfect, that was one of the best trailers in years. It seems Persona 5 will live up to my unrealistic hype.

Based Atlus releasing the game of the generation 2 years in (or 8 for the PS3)

Day one with a collector edition if there is one.

I wonder if they will do anime for this too....

In a few years, sure. First they have to finish the Persona 3 movies, which might take another year or two. And then they need to double dip on it by re-editing the movies into a TV series with some extra footage. After that it'll probably be time for a Persona 5 TV anime in 2018 to go along with a Persona 5 portable port. :)

I still can't believe it. Finally a P5 trailer that shows the game itself!!!
I'm so hyped for it that I watched the trailer 5 times in a row!

gotdamn those menus. Still the best.

I was YAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSS.gif the entire trailer. In particular everything about the MC, I like how many thought potter-kun was gonna be some lame nerd but it was JUST A PERSONA

What a slick looking trailer! I'm glad to finally see some actual game footage, and those menus look so stylish. Yes indeed, I'm stI'll on board. Give us a release date soon, please, Atlus.

Looks absolutely ridiculous! After a slow last few years I'm so excited to see my favorite genre, RPGs, are finally back! <3

Looks like there's was a heavy influence from their previous game Catherine in terms of style. It looks great. I guess that cat thing is the new teddy.

Calling the main character The Phantom for convenience's sake.
Thanks to Ridley, Artsi, Feonix, Duckroll, and Stone Ocean for the corrections/additional observations!

Shots of what's seemingly a casino. Two figures in the crowd are clearly running, possibly aware of The Phantom. The scene transitions to close-ups of security.

l94f3KA.jpg

The phantom himself, sporting a white mask with jagged black eye marks

LxTLoNX.jpg

The casino is seemingly very ornate

Now the opening. First a shot of The Phantom

vaM9Lzr.jpg

Followed by his teammate, Anzu Takama, her body suspended by some red cable

Another masked individual is sitting on the signboard. Presumably fox-themed?

xRt74mg.jpg

The Phantom's third revealed teammate, Ryuji Sakamoto

r5MsBX2.jpg

First shot of the new velvet siblings. A pattern of black bars constantly changes in front of them, but they overwhelmingly appear as jail bars

fvq8xvL.jpg

Something seems to be up with their eyes facing away from the viewer. Also, while it's hard to determine their sex, the one on the left has a ponytail.

The Phantom descends onto the city, creating an explosion which eventually shoots out a winged figure seemingly wearing a top hat (and possibly mask?) with a giant black chain chasing it and latching to its neck. This could be The Phantom's persona, as shown by the poster handed out following Persona Superlive.

DaF2PRT.jpg

The Phantom riding in the train. Unlike his masked persona, he's seemingly much more docile. Note that the calendar system in full effect, and that NPCs appear faceless. This could be a technical limitation leveraged for symbolism.

eSyVvxs.png

Train station. Notice the gaggle of businessmen slouching and generally looking depressed.

nntii4G.jpg

And the classroom. Note the green clover on An's hoodie. The Phantom gets chalk thrown at him for dozing off by his teacher.

NMKp4a2.jpg

Some scenes seemingly involve cut-ins of the character's faces

HAAtauL.jpg

A black cat next to An?

Another cut-in

MXYOSQc.jpg

Seemingly their base of operations - what looks like a coffee shop. There's a mascot-style cat with them named Morganna, meaning that the normal world and whatever its alternative are can interact

N8KncOn.jpg

Pretty slick transitions

da6ttps.jpg

gop8O3K.jpg

Ryuji seems like a goof, sliding down the rail playing air guitar while wearing a "ZOMG!" shirt

7HbjmMY.jpg

LmNQchG.jpg

tgzYIga.jpg

Anzu seems to be a graceful ballerina, but for some reason, the clover on her hoodie is now red.

TVNRKam.jpg

A seemingly normal black cat transforms into Morganna. The names across the screen are the Latin words for the seven deadly sins, as well as two more words. Luxuria is lust, Acedia is sloth, Cavum is hollow, Avaritia is greed, Gula is gluttony, Ira is wrath, Invidia is envy, Irritum is void (ueslessness?), and Superbia is pride.

Ux6lAZM.jpg

The image cascades to an array of screens. Note the loading bar at the bottom. The internet might be a big part. The name on the bottom icon is Superbia.

R3ZR6JD.jpg

PsicRut.jpg

The pause screen. It seems to be paused at the first dungeon. Note that social links (commu) aren't there. Also note that there's a party command, meaning there are probably more party members.

usQAAnh.jpg

Equipment. The Phantom seems to be able to equip both knives and guns, but on top of that, he can also equip armor and clothing separately.

DQAM9YN.jpg

A look at the possible knives. The transition involves him flicking a bullet to the right.

vQrn4Pe.jpg

JMSXU7n.jpg

ECLNGRn.jpg

pYsnSWW.jpg

A train driver, seemingly possessed by something. Whatever it is, it causes him to crash his train. A police officer might there on the scene, so the affliction probably didn't hit right before the crash.

IKcWzlx.jpg

ZuCAigV.jpg

UQfZFQM.jpg

Whenever the phantom falls, he leaves a strange red circle around him. He's also alone here, possibly as part of the tutorial?

sM3sVU3.jpg

Whatever he's infiltrating has suits of armor walking around.

gAS7AQo.jpg

Shots of him jumping across chandeliers.

M1kvN2m.jpg

gmfz8Zj.jpg

Persona 5 seemingly implements a cover/sneaking system, which lets him cross short distances without being noticed. He also seems to contort into some black shadow as part of the process.

e88r8Wx.jpg

G0DjRFk.jpg

fVLhAut.jpg

Some sort of lab/clinic. I can't read Japanese, but it seems her name is Tae Takemi, who offers drugs/medication.

d01rFht.jpg

Ryuji seems to get on An's nerves, while The Phantom is pretty nonplussed.

952suG0.jpg

9AEvWwo.jpg

Something bad happens during an operation, though it's hard to tell if it's played for laughs or is serious.

sOlIMz5.jpg

The weapon shop, courtesy of on Iwai Munehisa. A lizard/gecko diamond pattern grows across the screen underneath the fence.

kZchuHJ.jpg

Individual party members. The Phantom has both "Joker" and "The Fool" underneath his name.

4mHLaDH.jpg

VvTJuKE.jpg

The velvet room - a jail cell. The Phantom seems somewhat deranged and/or unhappy about his situation. Note the giant chains.

x8kvoJL.jpg

Combat. The Phantom wields a small handgun. During the currently-active party member's turn, their icon changes to them holding their arrest board.

nCBzlhJ.jpg

9hfXrcM.jpg

Shadows are gone in favor of demons again. Ryuji is also shown wielding a shotgun, while Morganna wields a giant slingshot. Though it's not pictured, Anzu also uses a submachine gun. It seems that the party can also attack with their firearms in unison.

fySJojz.jpg

81d8nyJ.jpg

An's suit. She's shown wielding a whip. It appears that certain attacks make the screen go grayscale and slow-motion.

lys4wyW.jpg

Ryuji is shown wielding a pipe.

UMJmWvl.jpg

Kjb3KnL.jpg

And Morganna is shown with a cutlass.

VkLsR0T.jpg

532pQLQ.jpg

The new all-out attack. It involves them going black and quickly dashing around the screen. Considering the sneaking animation, it's unknown if this is just stylistic or something else.

UCHJZvH.jpg

l2jyIwG.jpg

3B7GCqh.jpg

Next scenes of the three humans skating across a freeway without anything on their feet. Ryuji is shown swinging Morganna around, before throwing him at the signboard. However, when the cat hits it, she turns into a black shadow.

ZWbSj8T.jpg

A closeup of The Phantom, the top half of his face covered in blood in the shape of a masquerade mask. The scene shows him starting to use his persona - blue flames start rising from below him while the blood dissolves. For a quick moment, the flames turn into another mask before consuming his face and slowly spreading across his body.

Look at this animations. So much charisma oozing from the characters and they are not even saying a word.

Digging the funny male character and cat a lot. And even the MC seems to be really cool.
Need to still know a little bit more of the girl, becuase with her shouting to the funny character in the electric stairs, she seems to be the kind of female trope that I dont like nor hate, but is just there.
Of course, there will proabably be more main cast and I cant wait for those.

Bah, they can start it any time they want. I mean they went through two Persona 4 animated series (albeit not terribly good animes) before finishing the P3 movies.

If this is the in game All out screen I'll faint

I mean, how is it possible these guys top themselves game after game? It's nut

Too bad the second persona 3 movie bombed. I hope the last movie does better but :/
