Persona 5 New Trailer

Atlus handles all the story, text and localization for the Arena series, though. Arcsys doesn't do any localization themselves, they always work with another publisher. Aksys for Guilty Gear/Blazblue, and then Atlus is for Arena... since it's their property.

I can foresee the localization being shorter than for any other mainline Persona game since there's no way they haven't been working on the English side-by-side with the Japanese.

I always assumed Arcsys did the menus themselves but I double checked and saw the last JP BlazBlue didn't have english options so I'm mistaken!

No social links confirmed? Any idea what cooperation is? In any case, my fucking DICK MAN!

Imagine if this trailer had been a month ago when we were voting for most hyped game of 2015 persona 5 might have won

Certainly would have been higher than it was. Was already a feat for it being there without us having seen anything about it.

It's not often that a game is so confident about what it is, and doesn't hesitate to show it. P Studio could have played it safe, resting on the laurels of P3 and—especially—P4's success, but they went in a wildly different direction. That's commendable.

Clearly planning out a heist.

I don't like November because it's too close to the end of the year. Persona 5 will have a ton of big profile games to vie for attention with, people might not get to it in time for Game of the Year recognition, and it's generally too noisy a time of year for me to want to see a game like Persona 5 release in. Maybe that's misdirected, but I think anything earlier than November would be way better, purely in terms of the game's own success.

Well I mean Dragon Age had a similar problem and it won tons of GoY awards. My worry is that it doesn't have enough profile for people buy it over something like Star Wars or Uncharted this year. I want as much people to discover this game as possible and that will be more likely at less crowded time of the year.

That's what I'm saying. Both in terms of sales and in terms of critical reception, November for Persona 5 would suck big time.

Social Links were called Community in the Japanese release, it's likely that Social Links have been replaced/updated and this is the new term being used... we won't know for sure, but it seems very unlikely that Atlus would remove one of the big draws from P3/4. Especially wouldn't make sense while still keeping the highschool focus.

This doesn't make sense to me. Most of the highest praised and best selling games come out in November, even despite the clutter. Any earlier and it's going to be completely forgotten.

Although, I don't really like talking about GOTY consideration before we even know if the game is good or not.

Cooperation is obviously social links. In Japanese, social links were called community. They clearly just have a slightly different name now.

Might have something to do with the heist aspect--recruiting people into your thieving fold as opposed to just generally befriending them.

This doesn't make sense to me. Are you talking about the AAA, massive budget games with a ton of marketing to back them up? Because Persona 5 isn't one of those, so I don't see why you're comparing it to those.

Persona has always had a high school focus (except for Eternal Punishment), even before they started doing the whole S-Link thing.

But I agree that I'd be shocked if they completely did away with S-Links. I imagine they're still in the game, hopefully in an upgraded form.

I'm starting to be able to see the trailer in my head just listening to the mp3 Thoraxes put up, with the proper parts of the trailer matching up to the proper parts of the song.

Send help.

Is this the first time I'll be buying a japanese copy, and 2 copies of the us game? (or any game really)
Fuck yes. Into my goddamn veins.
I'm not about dat cat life tho =/ why not a dog ;_;

I definitely prefer dogs myself, but a cat works better with what their doing here I think. Cat burglers and doing a bunch of agile shit. Dogs are awesome, but they're nowhere near as agile as a cat.

And we already had Koromaru, who was the man.

P3 wasn't like that. Party members dealt with their own shit on their own time.

For myriad reasons I hope this game takes more inspiration from P3 than P4. But P4 is much more popular, so I fear I'll be disappointed.

More specifically, in P3 the party members had their own character development arcs within the main story, and you only had social links with female party members which were "secondary" character arcs for them. In P4 all party member character development after they joined happened in their social links, which gave P4 the aforementioned "sempai I need you to solve all my problems!" feel.

P4 wound up that way primarily because the characters' rescue arcs already focused entirely on them, so it didn't really make sense to slow down the rest of the main story with the rest of their development, so it all went into their social links (most of which were basically about how they applied what they learned from their shadows to their lives.) So P5 probably won't be that way unless it also uses P4's "the party members all have to confront their inner demons before they can use their Personas" structure.

currently trying to read everything over but I saw speculation on the earlier pages that there may not be social links is this true?

That there's speculation? Yeah, because there's no "social link" section to the menu(there's a "community" section). Is it true? Seriously doubtful. The trailer pretty much showed that the calendar system is still in, and I frankly don't see the calendar system existing without social links.

Games media will play it regardless, and if it hits the right notes, it'll win GOTY. Time wouldn't affect that. Reviewers often ignore anything that comes before September, honestly.

In the past, I might have agreed with you, but now I think GOTY lists are more inclusive.

Maybe Sony will put some marketing muscle behind it? They don't have much on the holiday (that we knew) except UC4.

Which gives Persona a higher chance at being lost with all that noise. Big triple A games that come out around that time have massive marketing budgets. Budgets that Persona 5 has no chance of matching. It's a game on the verge of breaking out of niche so I want it to have as much room to breathe as possible

Oh man, what a trailer to wake up today :)

It seems that Cooperation are the Social Links. Some people here have mentioned that in Japan, the social links are called Community; so maybe Cooperation will be the japanese name.

Edit. I've been trying to catch-up with the thread, but it's impossible lol

Do you actually think Persona 5 can fight it out with the Annual giants like COD and AC?

Persona is king of niche hill, you're not going to see it being advertise on TV.
