Persona 5 New Trailer

More like main protagonist. It's been confirmed that the main cast won't be as traditionally "good" as the previous one.

I read something on Siliconera that sound similar from the game director but between 'not act like go-good chars' and 'become a villain char' there is a world. Especially with the yellow eye which is a shadow characteristic, implying doing bad things.

Maybe there is a big twist but sounds like an impostor setup.

So since we have better graphics now, maybe we can actually kiss the girls we're cheating on. I mean dating exclusively.

I introduced a friend of mine to the series and he's loved it. Link him to the P5 trailer and he's not impressed, saying it looks like Batman and stealth sucks.

I'm like

I wanted to take a moment to appreciate how well executed the opening sequence of this trailer is. The initial opening heist with the MC getting caught sets the tone, ending with the shot of his face lit up, and then straight into the red/black/grey credits sequence with the wonderful jazz to lay down a heavy dose of style. It's just so.... cinematic. It feels like the opening of a good movie.

I've always wondered if Persona 5 being developed on the ps3 would limit the potential of the next gen ps4 version, but now I've come to a conclusion, it doesn't. Persona games have never relied on realistic and high demanding graphics because of the anime style. Also the ps3 uses blu-ray discs just like the ps4 which means it's potential was already limitless. I really can't wait to see the outcome.

I'm happy about them going back to demons as well but I wonder how you get personas now. I do not want to negotiate with demons in this game

Best thing about this is no palette swaps! I wonder what the demon/persona count is for P5.

I hope they just modeled most of the ones we already know from previous games. It'd be an investment for them too since they got like 6 games out of the models they made during the PS2 era and I'd be super down for an SMT game on PS4.

Hopefully with models ready we will get Persona 6 much faster kinda like P4

You can expect Persona 6 to use the same engine (possibly upgraded) as P5. HD demons is what's really exciting about this! Imagine Atlus releasing new SMT games just like the good old PS2 days!

I know it's been brought up already, but it would be hilarious if Naoto being a in-and-out consultant for the Phantom Thief would be the cameo tying Persona 5 back to 3 and 4 (if it is in the same universe, to be fair).

I kind of wonder that if the Protags are the 'bad guys' by society, when they're the ones going into the realm of shadows, they're beating up demons/persona that actually are the personas of security guards, etc..

I'm confused, what is meant by this?

In mainline SMT titles (as well as others), you have to first weaken a demon's health, then enter into a 'bargaining' system, where they ask for the 'correct' response, for health/SP, money, items...it's much more random, in a sense, than gaining persona in cards after battle.

In mainline SMT and Persona 1 and 2, the characters you currently know as the personas in 3 and 4 (Pyro Jack, Ghoul, Cu Cuthlain, etc.) Were actually the enemies you fought in random battles. In order to get them for summoning purposes, there was a system where you actually initated a conversation with the enemy during battle and you'd have to either convince them through dialogue or bribe them. It's kind of an obtuse system if you ask me, but other people like it. Think of it like capturing pokemon in pokemon, if that reference works on you. Except, instead of throwing a pokeball and hoping it locks, you're using dialogue choices.

The fact that we're seeing these creatures as enemies again (you see the team fighting sandman and pyro jack) raises the question of whether it will go back to negotiation in order to gain new personas.

Oh so like mainline SMT? Does this mean social links are going away?

I think this relates to P2 and maybe P1 (haven't played much of it). In those games you had to negotiate with demons to receive cards. When you have a certain amount in an arcana you'd go to the painter(?) in the velvet room and get new persona.

Yeah, like mainline SMT. Well, we don't even know if negotiation is back, so it's too early to tell. Hashino mentioned that "People who played P3 and 4 will find this game familiar", so I'm guessing that social links are back in some form or another. Also, the menu highlights "cooperation", which seems to be the new term for this system.

Who knows, though, the entire trailer was mum on the concepts of personas, the tarot, and social links. I'm assuming there's probably another hook here they don't want to reveal quite yet.

Demon negotiation could work well if they just didn't use that old dumb system that's basically random. They could do stuff like give you a bonus if your social link corresponding to the demon's arcana is high. Maybe those occasions where demons ask for random items can be modified to just have a bunch of "loot" that's used to bribe demons (much like most drops in P4 were only meant to be sold to Daidara.) Or reuse those skills from Nocturne with which you can intimidate or torture demons. Just make it less of a gamble and give you more control.

It would work as-is if 60% of the demons weren't bat shit insane. The weird-ass localizations didn't help either.

I like you, can I have a strand of your hair?
>Sure
HAHAHAHA HE FELL FOR IT HE GAVE ME A STRAND OF HIS HAIR
*the demon suddenly attacks!"

I like that demons are back, the Shadows were some of the most terrible enemies ever with their Hulk Hogan lookalikes. I just don't want to see negotiations.

I always found stuff like that funny.

In light of this amazing trailer I now feel like playing all the personas but I am torn between which versions to choose, can you help gaf?

I'm thinking:

PSP persona 1
PS1 IS and EP
P4G is a no brainer over ps2

Now I don't know whether to choose p3p or fes. Portabity dossn't matter to me I just want the better game and I'm not sure which one to pick.

Something worth considering:

Assuming that the protagonists directly transform into their Persona, do you think you'll be able to transform into random demons like Jack Frost? Because that would be pretty cool. Or better yet, what if Persona 5 incorporates a traditional Persona summoning method, in addition to being able to transform into a *special* Persona (ie, the protagonist's unique Persona).
