Persona 5 New Trailer

"Huge" is a bit of an overstatement. But i would like it to be open to more wide of an audience, and hopefully this goes to that level. If it seems the same amount as the youtube video right now (1.5 million) i think Atlus will be very happy. If something like Sniper Elite ghost warrior or(although it was decent) Lollipop chainsaw can sell over a million, there's nothing saying Persona 5 should not be able to.

I too hope that it sells well, heck we haven't even played the game yet but I must say, I never had a trailer sell me on something as quickly as this one did. Just like many others here, I had these expectations put upon the game, P-Studio with this trailer went well beyond those. I showed it to some of my friends that aren't that much into gaming or anime just to see what they would say, and even they said that this was one of the coolest, most stylish ways to present a product. They all seemed to love the whole thief vs society that the game has got going on.

Those 1.5 million views are probably only 15000 people having obsessively watched it an average of 100 times.

I mean, we all have, right?

Sure. Here you go.

I've probably watched it at least 50 times.

Cheers Phantom, good stuff! And absolutely. I have literally seen every single frame so many times, in search of something that I might have overlooked lol.

I'm really curious just how much it's going to sell in Japan. This is a random question but does someone have a list of how much all the Persona games have sold, and a list of the 1 million sellers that were on PS3?

Only two games on PS3 sold a million in Japan.

FFXIII and RE5.

Exhaustive list of PS3 games that reached over 1 million copies, even when you combine all versions and re-releases (ultimate hits, gold edition, budget price, etc):

1.) Final Fantasy XIII - 1,965,465
2.) Resident Evil 5 - 1,026,495

It getting 1 million + in Japan is damn near possible, but I think P5 has the faintest of a chance to cross it with the PS3 + PS4 combined install base (of course, there's a crossover).

A realistic estimate would be 700k.

Does anyone else find the transition between the protagonist and Anne at 2:12 kind of odd since the camera skips forward a bit, unlike the transition from Anne to Ryuji.
It's almost like there's supposed to be more footage between the time the protagonist appears and the time Anne appears...

Sorry if I'm late to the game on this, I just noticed.

You're right, actually. It's something I noticed before as well, but it seems like there's a larger time skip between the P5MC and Anne transition than the one that follows it. Could be insignificant, could not.

If I recall correctly the only Japan million seller the PS3 ever had during its entire lifespan was Final Fantasy XIII.

Yes, that's hella sad.

P5 is extremely unlikely to reach a million in Japan even if we combine PS3 and PS4 sales as one.

Rewatching the trailer again and man, does the P5 protag makes Makoto and Yu look like squares. They're just so... plain in comparison.

I feel he looks a bit bland since he got that Harry potter style look, just seems plain. Then again I prefer P3 MC's design compared to the other protagonists except Tatsuya because he's just as good as P3 MC.

I knew FFXIII sold over 1 million but I didn't know RE5 did too. Does anybody have GTA V sales cause I remember hearing it sold a shit ton in Japan. Just looking for comparisons.

Hmm I really wonder if P5 could do it. I mean 3DS shits out million sellers like nobody's business. But yeah at the same time portables.

wow i didnt knew that Persona was such a popular series, it has GAF on shock, i will try to play this, lack the platforms for the pthers.

800k-900k IIRC
Combined with PS4 SKU, it should reach 1 million I think. I'm still surprised that I haven't seen weird crossover fanart of Trevor and moe characters,

I'd bet a release gap akin to Persona Q. Summer in Japan, winter in America (assuming nothing slips).

When they first announced then for the states, Atlus said apart from Persona Q, the goal was to launch the other three games (P4Dance, Ultimax, and P5) as close to their JP releases as possible.

For the states, I could see P4D in Septemebrr (June 25 in JP) and P5 in December/January (September in JP, I'm guessing).

GTAV sold just under a million combined on PS3 and PS4.

It sold well on PS4 because it came bundled with the console.

Console sales in Japan are the weakest in over 24 years.

Persona 5 won't sell 1 million in Japan unless something real crazy happens. Logical assumptions are 500-700k. 1 million WW is a given.

The only million-seller JP PS3 titles have been covered, so I'll focus on the JP Persona sales. I would have to look around more for P1 and P2 numbers (well, for the remaining versions), but in regards to P3 and P4...
Persona 3 : 210k
Persona 3 FES : 165k
Persona 3 Portable : 209k

It should be noted that the GTAV PS4 numbers are only great because of the bundle.

Even though this is me just wishing and speculating, but GTA makes me wonder. Obviously I don't have a good idea of exactly how much Persona has grown over the years but surprises happen. Being cross-gen will probably help too. Obviously it will reach 1 million worldwide but it will be interesting to see how it performs specifically in Japan.

At least we now know which is the best trailer of 2015.

I can't think of any other game that could have nearly as good a trailer. I don't even think an amazing Zelda trailer could be this hype. MAYBE an amazing Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer.

To be fair, it's only the second best because this exists, but it certainly tried

The fact that Persona 4, which came very late in the PS2 cycle plus a Vita game make up for almost the entirety of Persona 3's sales of half a million shows a good rise in sales over there. I could see P5 doing 700k, it being on PS3 AND PS4, something that the other 2 titles didn't do at release time (P3P and P4G came later down the line on handlhelds, not home consoles)

Now? Yeah, everyone jumped the gun when Atlus first showed him though. They completely fooled everyone, much like what the MC is doing in the game aha.

Yeah, what Alberto said is probably right, most likely done for contrast. I am really looking forward to this game.

I always name my SMT mc's "Rock" I think MCP5 will fit the name the best.

I don't know man, 700k sounds a little too high. From what I've seen Megami Tensei-related games in general seems to have a pretty consistent fanbase in Japan, always performing somewhere between the lower 200k and high 300k. I do believe this one has a shot of doing like 400~450k but I'm not confident it could overperform something like Xillia even with combined sales. I really hope I'm wrong and they end up selling gangbusters but until then I'll keep my expectations in check.

That is definitely low balling it. I really really REALLY hope it outsells Xillia.(or any other Tales game for that matter)

KH3 isn't that far into development to be able to showcase any substantial gameplay to make a style with substance kind of trailer. It's a 2017 title after all.

I think Phantom Pain or Uncharted 4 has some chance to at least come close, especially as they have the power of mainstream attention. But nah, P5 is gonna win, and I'm not even a huge Persona fan.

It certainly would be impressive to see another game trailer released this year beat Persona 5's PV01. It's just so well directed and, plainly, stylish.

Took a quick screenshot just for the hell of it

Awesome!!!! ^_^

No doubt. Thank God these guys stick with their vision rather than changing for the sake of trying to make everyone happy. They really make unique experiences that I can't get anywhere else, and I'm so glad that remains the case!

I'd give Persona another chance if there is some patch to make the encounter rate not stupid high.

Like how you can change encounter rates in Bravely Default. One of the greatest ideas ever, more games should adopt that. I may give both P1 and P2 another chance if they added something like that.

It is not inconceivable this may be the first mainline Persona title that sells more overseas than in Japan. The sheer size of the audience in Japan compared to America cannot be compared (620k vs. 15+ million).

Of course, we can't account for how many sales of PS4 will be driven by the launch of P5. But the thought is weirdly exciting and vindicating to me.

Edit: Audience in this context is meant to be owners of the PS4 console, whom are capable of immediately purchasing the game should it release.

My analysis is flawed, but I don't claim scientific rigour or precision in my claims.

Ehh I think it could make 2016 Japan. We do know there will be more footage of KH3 this year so I assumed an E3 trailer.

But when it's available on PS3 too, most Japanese Persona fans will just set down their phones for a minute and dust off their old PS3, don't you think?

You're right, and that's not something that's been discussed too much as of yet. Persona 5 selling more in the west compared to Japan... I wonder if that's really possible. That'd be pretty amazing; I'd have to think that would really affect how Atlus Japan perceives the western audience for their games.
