Persona 5 New Trailer

If the dungeon design is any indication I would assume the encounter rate will be down because the enemy locations will be more fixed.

edit: next page already lol

What do you suppose will be higher: the number of pages this thread finally settles on when it cools down, or the number of hours I put into my first P5 playthrough?

If they do it the way they did P4 I hope they keep the VA off from their other games.

Do you mean you don't want to see a lot of overlap in the cast? The talent pool is so small there's boind to be some familiar voices, but I'm sure the main party will all be new people.

The european version of Catherine had dual audio i think. So take that america! We at least know something better than you!

This was a feature missing in the North American release, and we saw that the fan reaction to this was of strong disappointed. We are proud to allow European fans to play Catherine in either English or French.
Dual audio indeed!

No it's the cast using Japanese honorifics while speaking in English since it personally annoys me a ton.

Troy Baker will come in and voice every character in the game. And you good sir, will like it.

Pretty sure Laura Bailey, Erin Fitz will be in. Also, JYB and Yuri. Or maybe we will get completely new voices like you said, I think that would be great!

never mind, mistook download numbers.

You know, I actually ignored that. It sold ~300k in Japan, and we know it's at around 800-900k total WW so, you're right, P4G did sell better outside of Japan.

Edit: Or it didn't? It'd be nice if we had concrete western numbers to compare. There's also the P4G re-release that came out two days ago to consider.

This part of the trailer makes me want to play the game NOW

Ohhhh. Yeah, given that was a stylistic choice to start, I imagine it'll continue. There's an explanation for it, but I can't recall it off the top of my head. It doesn't bother me, but I could see how it'd take you out of it.

You're right, and that's not something that's been discussed too much as of yet. Persona 5 selling more in the west compared to Japan... I wonder if that's really possible. That'd be pretty amazing; I'd have to think that would really affect how Atlus Japan perceives the western audience for their games.

I think its more than likely considering the drop off in console sales, even PS3 in Japan at this point. Handhelds as well are succumbing to mobile phones, whereas console gaming in western shores is still strong.

Tales of Z is mostly in line with previous games, but that's an outlier i think

Well I would have dropped it if I didn't have the option to turn off voices. lol It REALLY annoys me, so if they keep the option I'll have no problems playing through it.

If it bothers you that much, maybe there are better places to aim your efforts to for adjusting things? Just saying. Really trivial issue to be getting annoyed with.

I was being a bit presumptuous. Downloads played a big deal in Japan and outside. Not to mention these numbers look extremely outdated.

In any case, it's close.

You mean Persona 2 right?

Persona 3 and Persona 4 have no random encounters. Running right past enemies to evade battles is a joy of mine when I'm low on health.

I mean 1 I never tried 2 since I imagined it would be similar, but I don't mind random encounters as long as it's frequency rate isn't too high but I got another battle by taking a step way too frequently.

Well as long as they keep the option to turn off voices they don't need to adjust anything. :P I can just make the voices in my head.

I can imagine many Europeans raising their fists in anger as they read that bolded part.

Hey, for Q Atlus/Sega didn't fuck around in fucking Nintendo Land and had NISA do it right. Was only a few days between the releases as it usually is. Thanks based NISA....now if only their prices wasn't like 80% more than the US releases....or at least if we could always pay the same numerical amount in GBP as you do in USD......
get the reference

Edit: Numbers that are more up to date.

Persona 5 won't sell 1 million in Japan unless something real crazy happens. Logical assumptions are 500-700k. 1 million WW is a given.

Unfortunately the Persona series and SMT has always been around 200k initially in Japan but then slowly walked their way up a bit further. Seems as it has a set fan base of that size that don't mind owning every platform it ends up on. Btw didn't P4G achieve that PlayStation award thingy for breaking 1 mil? or was it something lower?

I would be fine with that lol

Something tells me he is a bit more expensive to get now though.

Our OG Kanji is a superstar now, rolling on that AAA dough :P he's way too far away from our reach now ahaha. Guy must be really busy with all the projects that he's in now, and he's a great individual, so I'm not hating on him or anything.

Even Squenix who were the last holdouts are putting dual-audio in games now. They're shooting for dual audio in FFXV and that has to be like the most unbelievable thing ever but it's true.

Atlus on the other hand are uhm Atlus. It's ironic that in the past decade they have gone from the best company localizing JRPGs to one of the worst because they insist on not including the JP voice tracks.

Nine's complaint is fair. In a game so predicated on story and voiced dialogue, if there's a linguistic quirk that annoys you to start it's going to get old after a while.

I don't know if it was associated with the award, but it did coincide with an announcement that they had shipped 700k units of P4G (including DL sales) worldwide, on December 4, 2013.

I definitely think Persona 5 will have a much stronger opening than 200k. Things have changed a lot since the 7 years when a mainline Persona RPG last came out. Countless spin-offs, remakes, concerts and media expanding endeavors have made the Persona series grow tremendously and more recognized, and—even though it's a rather poor metric—I think something as simple as the number of Youtube video views the Persona 5 trailers have is a proper indication.

The audience for Persona has definitely expanded.

Yeah it's way too frequent for my liking but if it was just occasionally I could pass it off no problem.

I mean I think asking to keep this isn't too much to ask? I'm mostly concerned it might not be in because of the new engine.

There were 350 000 sold almost a year ago including digital sales in Japan. A few months earlier the sales were at 700 000 worldwide including digital sales. So as of April 2014 we know for sure P4G sold more outside of Japan than in Japan. However it might have changed since. The animation made P4G chart in Japan again last fall, and there's the budget release that came out 2 days ago as Flux said.

Don't try to determine digital sales simply by subtracting the known totals from Famitsu/Media Create from Atlus's figures.
You would not be accounting for total shipment sizes, which none of us have access to.

Hell even Nintendo now does dual audio in most of their (voiced) games. That's even more surprising than Square Enix.

Yep, it's presumptuous. The domestic and international sales are still very close.

The thing is, if Atlus found a way to sell the JPN audio as DLC (like how Square Enix sometimes does) they would probably be much more willing to make it compatible with the game.

I guess it depends on how the presentation has changed. There are no dialogue boxes in the trailer, but that doesn't preclude them from being in the final game. I can't really see them having... so many straight up cutscenes. I suppose it's feasible (because the scenes will as animated as before, just with better models), but no dialogue boxes would be so weird.

Should be subtitles either way.

Hell yeah, I'm choosing to believe that P4G actually brought in new players, even with Vita only :), and perhaps even Q and that the latest Anime will drag in some of that Anime only crowd. Tbh I want Persona to be the new Big selling Final Fantasy. Fuck, if you have a partner that don't care, withhold sex or whatever until they play through Persona and finally buys their own systems with the Persona games ^^

Yeah that was a surprise. Then again if they keep up the simultaneous WW releases and have multi language support on all their cartridges we're effing golden, Sorry Wii U :(
