I like this thread.
Here go's nothin'
Socom 1 and 2 were the leader in multiplayer on consoles, and no shooter to this day has topped it.
Socom: Confrontation was a good game that didn't deserve the hate it got from fans.
Socom 4 was fun but not a good Socom game.
Rainbow Six: Siege will be the best tactical team based shooter since Socom.
God of War 3 is better than any of the other GOW games, and the best game on PS3
30FPS locked is better than 60fps with dips.
Games with bad taste should be given room to breathe. No game should be banned. This is coming from someone who loves the very worst horror films (Human Centipede 2/Cannibal Holocaust), and also cheesy schlock fests (Troma). Playing or watching such things should not reflect negatively on someones personality.
Assassins Creed has
always been garbage.
If you told me Nintendo was releasing a new console for $300, and in the first year they would have a new Star Fox, Metroid, 2d and 3d Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Donky Kong, and Pokemon, I still would not want it. Maybe with Xenoblade though
Funny enough, I'd much rather play retro inspired indie games then the franchises above.
Indie/Retro games today are more addicting, and fun than AAA games.
I'd trade in almost all of EA games in recent years for a new Road Rash.
Mod Nation Racers is the best kart racer ever.
Max Payne 3 was better than 1 and 2, and the writing was fine.
Uncharted 3 had a much better story than 2.
Most open world games are too boring to finish.
Games that require me to discover a chunk of it's lore by reading are a no go for me. That's most fantasy games. I don't like reading journal entries in games. Lot's of devs should take que from Rockstar on this. GTA V in particular has excellent mission design, and instead of opening some text book to read about the city, or characters, it directly puts you on missions to interact with different npc's by doing various different tasks designed specifically for that npc. It lets you discover the lore by driving around the city and interacting with npcs and the environment to make the city feel alive. None of it is boring, repetitive, or required to progress, and that's the best part. Basically instead of giving me a book to read about the old dragon king, just make an npc that tells the story in a dramatic way while you are riding on horseback around the beautiful landscapes.
GTA V has one good character, one alright one, and one is just bad. Franklin. he's just a stereotypical black dude, and as a black man, it was pretty lame to see him eventually just become a third wheel for Trevor and Michael's story. I mean he's just a gang banger, and every time something happens, he's just automatically down, because he's a ryder n needs to get that paper? Trevor and Michael are given all this conflict and personality, and reasoning (them being former bank robbers) and Franklin is just there to be a gangster, because he's from the hood, and because San Andreas right!? At least Lamar was fuckin' hilarious.
Vanilla World of Warcraft - Wrath of the Lich King is probably the best game ever.
Despite being against an all digital future, 2/3rds of the games on my new console are digital, and that includes GTAV, Destiny, and Diablo III. So I'm probably sending the wrong message.
Console gamers weren't ready for Destiny and it's MMO style. Evidence by lots and lots of whining and jealousy after release about loot distribution, causing the game to become less WoW, and more Diablo which I don't think they were aiming for. Where bungie messed up, is not having the social features there. The Tower needs a chat hub, and more people allowed in it, and a "looking for raid" feature. The matchmaking was fucked.
2015 will be the best ever year for gaming in my lifetime. The indie and AAA lineup is looking amazing. I was too young to appreciate other years that might fall into this category. I plan to soak it up.
