Driveclub's slightly 'exaggerated' driving model captures the feeling of driving a real performance car on the road better than most 'sims' do. I'd also argue it's a more focussed and demanding driving game than GT or Forza have ever been.
After spending time with Shovel Knight, I am still nonplussed. It seems to be akin to going into a room and having someone scream at you "HEY, YOU REMEMBER MEGAMAN AND DUCK TALES?!?!? HUH?!?" repeatedly for 35 minutes a pop.
Yeah I played it for a couple of hours, and while I liked it, it didn't really do anything for me. I may go back to it, but I didn't feel motivated to stick with it.
The Wii U is an absurdly overrated console, and the claims of it being better than the PS4 and Xbox One are laughable unless you insist on arbitrarily excluding every non-exclusive game on those platforms, even the ones that aren't on Wii U (i.e. almost all of them.) This is done all the time on GAF to skew the picture in Nintendo's favor.
IMO, a ~10 million selling system can't be overrated. That's like saying the Saturn or TG16 were overrated just because there are people who genuinely liked them better.
The Vita is wasted with Sony. It's defenders only seem to have a few reasonable mentions amongst the sea of PC/XBLA ports.
The Last of Us on the PS3 was terrible. The performance was atrocious, and should never have passed Q&A. Even after getting through it, I didn't get the appeal. A technical marvel given the hardware, though.
Naughty Dog haven't made a great game in 10 years, and I actually enjoy Uncharted. Will I remember UC1/UC2 as fondly as I did something like Crash, though? No chance at all.
God of War was the best new IP to come out of the PS2.
Wipeout was Sony's best ever franchise... Until they killed it...
Skyrim is terrible, and without mod support, there's absolutely no way I'd consider reinstalling it.
Mass Effect is overhyped, and is the perfect example of conversation done wrong. If you don't act like a total bastard or a total angel, you're going to be gimping yourself in the longrun, and the whole Paragon/Renegade thing is as shallow as it gets, anyway. Go back to the 1980s, and you'll see Ultima games with more depth in virtues.
Crysis 3 is actually a decent game. I couldn't care less that it doesn't have a good story, as using the bow is pretty damn fun, and sneaking up on enemies is always enjoyable.
Final Fantasy VII is one of the most overrated video games of all time. I played the game in 1997, and it's no doubt a good, classic title, but the fanboys... Dear god, the fanboys. The first few hours in Midgar are nonsensical, unless of course the members of AVALANCHE are mentally retarded, and think that
blowing up a chemical plant is going to be good for the planet.
Final Fantasy VIII needs to die in a fire. The junction system isn't a grand experiment in customization, but instead mindless busy work that adds hours of inflated gametime. The plot is atrocious, the love story is a joke, the characters are a bunch of twats, and the music is some of the worst in the series - Sorry, Nobuo, but that plinky plonky world map theme makes me want to die.
The FPS genre hasn't improved since 2004. UT2K4 & HL2 are still better than pretty much everything released today, and at least rival the fewer titles capable of holding a candle.
World of Warcraft doesn't get the credit it deserves. When people talk about the Greatest Games of All Time, you here a few titles over and over again. 3D Mario Game X, Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VI, Half Life... Why isn't World of Warcraft ever considered? It was so far of everything else at release, has a level of polish & content no other game can match, and to this day holds up mechanically better than any of its imitators.
I found Shadow of Mordor to be boring. It's assassin's creed with batman combat and brown environments, yet it won multiple game of the year awards? I don't get it at all. I thought this was a down year for fall games in general.
Persona 4 is not only the worst Persona game out there but one of the most boring MegaTen titles I've played along side with SMT 4.
Persona 4 is the perfect example of shitty shonen anime in video game form even with the shitty soundtrack.
The only reason why I'm not excited for P5 is because I really don't like P4.
Also Yuri Lowenthal is the world's worst and most annoying voice actor.
I find Final Fantasy 7 to be a horrible misstep for the series, one which they have never recovered from. I played through it once, was horribly disappointed after coming off final fantasy 6 and never understood the love and adoration it gets.

Edit: this is just a little rant b/c i constantly see this series praised
The Mass Effect games are average at best. They have one or two cool things, but also some really really bad things. The story is really cliched and simple with the Reapers simply being pure evil because they are just evil, which makes the villains in the series really bland and one-dimensional. They could have had something nuanced in the Illusive Man (stupid ass name btw) but Shepard has no dynamic interactions with him (i.e., despite any "rebellious" dialogue choices Shepard just does whatever the Illusive Man says). Moreover in ME3,
the Illusive man just becomes another mind-controlled villain stripped of all character
. Also, Kai Leng is the worst written bad guy I have ever encountered.
ME has the most repetitive missions of any game series, where everything you do is just shooting bad guys in a corridor, and the fact that you can eliminate whole planet's worth of bad guys with just a group of 3 people makes it hard to think of the Reapers as a threat. The dialogue is, mostly, poorly done with really only the "blue" or "red" option. The character interactions can be pretty bad - basically, if you get to the point where they want to bone you and you say no, you are no longer allowed to have dialogue with them.
What they did with the mining and ship upgrades in ME2 was perhaps the biggest bullshit I've ever seen in a game too (i guess, my expectations were really low going into ME3). The final mission of ME2 was not fantastic -just average. Choosing which companions to do what was really just common sense, and the mission itself was the same corridor gameplay with a really lackluster boss at the end.
Most people who complain about camera or controls in games, especially older ones, are just generally bad at videogames. They might be good at certain games, maybe even great, but don't have the necessary motor skills to adapt to something different.
I'm no longer a big fan of the series, but people who complained about Call of Duty killstreaks and being shot constantly from the back in games like Modern Warfare 2 are also bad at videogames. They lack basic situational awareness and can't understand how the game gives you plenty of tools and counters to mitigate failure. It is actually very easy to consistently win in CoD.
There is no such thing as "Nintendo quality" there are good and bad Nintendo games just like any other dev. Also their best are not the best of all time that's purely each person's opinion.
Persona 4 is not only the worst Persona game out there but one of the most boring MegaTen titles I've played along side with SMT 4.

I think most nintendo games are incredibly boring. I found Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart to be boring. The last Nintendo game that I enjoyed was Wind Waker (I also loved Majora's MAsk and OoT). I really cannot fathom why some fans are really obsessive about their games.
I despise the entirety of the fighting game genre. Two dudes or dudets beating on each other with a multitude of thumb breaking-response-time-of-a-martial-arts-cat does not jive with me.
Also assassin's creed 3 had a far worse ending than mass effect 3 because there was absolutely no closure whatsoever. A million plot lines were dropped and the series has absolutely no idea where to go since then.
I also think the souls games are terribly overrated. Played for like 20 hours don't get why this game is so revered other than being harder than most other games. Like really why is this forum so in love with this game?

Can't speak for Dark Souls since I haven't played them but the atmosphere in Demon's Souls was quite unique in my opinion. Is the reason why I love the game so much.
Street Fighter IV and its updates are perhaps one of the worst fighting games in the series. The design changes boggle my mind and I seriously don't understand how some of the system directions made it past location test.
- The Reversal window is large enough that you can drive a truck through it
- The hitboxes on some moves (shoryukens, vanilla Cammy c.HP) are insane
- Input leniancy absolutely ruins the execution barrier to some tactics, and not in a good way (see: reversal windows)
- FADC is fine, but the options it gave certain characters (charge characters, grapplers) were extremely low compared to those of motion-based characters
- Being able to cross-up in the corner is so incredibly stupid. Being cornered is a heavy disadvantage as it is.
- Stages feel like a damn marathon to go from corner to corner
I can't stand Legend of Zelda fans. The games aren't all they're cracked up to be and people that dedicate themselves to the series are really missing out on better games.
Thank God the new Zelda for Wii U is going back to the spirit of the original Zelda: exploration! I'd be happy if the new game had NO STORY at all. Who needs a story when you can explore an awesome fantasy land, do whatever you want, and explore all of the fascinating areas?
That's what Zelda should be: adventure, exploration, action, problem solving, and cool ass items. If you need Navi following you around all of the time forcing you to go from point A to B to C, then play Ass Creed instead.
I don't think anyone's gonna disagree with you about that. I haven't seen a single person say anything positive about the event yet, and the Payday 2 community is outraged by it. Especially because at least one piece of the content in it was already unlocked during Crimefest...

I don't feel that strongly about it, but I can sympathize. As someone who's been playing since P1, it felt like the P4 anime waifu dance party just wasn't going to stop. While good, it's overstayed its welcome at a Fabula Nova Crystallis level at this point.

I think the most enjoyable part of Smash Bros. and most fighting games is unlocking all the characters/stages. Once I have everything unlocked, I usually drop it unless friends are over. A lot of my friends are the "Only Final Destination, No Items" type though, and I'm the complete opposite, so...
One of the reasons I like League of Legends significantly more than DOTA is (aside from the art direction), there's always a carrot to chase. Again, I'm not a super competitive gamer, so I like that there's always a character to unlock, always something to shoot for. Probably the same reason I like WoW so much, I love my carrots.

Examples of "better games" would be nice. Genuinely curious as to what you would consider similar/better, because I haven't heard/seen anything that jumps out at me. I've heard Dark/Demon Souls plays similar to Zelda, but the art direction is completely unappealing to me. I think the strongest thing about Zelda is that it's a very nice mix of puzzle solving and action. There's great puzzle games and there's great action games, but it's pretty rare to find games that do the two as well as Zelda does imo.

I like Story and have trouble getting into games that don't have one, but I definitely wouldn't mind seeing something similar to A Link Between Worlds. It had a story, but it didn't really hold your hand (in terms of "Go to X Now!"), and it didn't have an incredibly slow start.
Who actually only sticks to one company exclusively these days? Too many experiences to miss by being a fanboy (and Nintendo is my favorite of the three companies).
Well, some games are fun to different people. Nintendo games are generally charming, colorful and well made too, but of course, that doesn't mean they are flawless. Fans still find issues with their games just as any other fan would with games they like not made by Nintendo. Mario Galaxy had a cool and refreshing presentation and setting, enjoyable music (most of which was original) , well thought out level design that provided a variety of platforming challenges to test your skills with, and some cool power-up too.
Mario Kart does get repetitive after a while, but it's still fun to play as a cast of iconic characters in an arcade-style racing game within the setting of the Mario universe. It's a game that isn't just about beating your opponents to the finish line, but preventing them from getting there before you by hitting them with a variety of quirky weapons. What other games are around that are like it anymore and do it just as well, if not better ? Not many. I briefly played Mario Kart 8 earlier today at Target's demo station and it was fun and looked beautiful too.
Any games like Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Persona, Pheonix Wright, etc are stupid, don't know how the hell anybody gets excited about stupid looking crap like that.
Call of Duty games are amongst the best games ever made, the later ones MW3 and beyond, reason being they are fun all year long to pick up and play multiplayer.
Dark/Demon Souls games are too ridiculously hard to be considered even good games. I don't mind a challenge but the crap they do in these games like set you like 15 min back from where you died, or give you less health, etc is beyond frustrating.
Ninja Gaiden games are horrible, like the Dark/Demon Souls games they are too frustrating to be any fun minus the old arcade game from the 90's.
Any game that's cell shaded/cartoony looking I probably won't play it because it looks stupid. Only exception I can think of would be Borderlands, I had some good fun with that but it wasn't as stupid looking as say Wind Waker or Jet Set Radio.

These aren't controversial opinions, it's a list of "everything I don't like and doesn't look like Call of Duty is stupid, bad, and people are dumb for liking it".
I also think the souls games are terribly overrated. Played for like 20 hours don't get why this game is so revered other than being harder than most other games. Like really why is this forum so in love with this game?
In short, because it's a well designed game that foregoes passive, scripted, cinematic nonsense in favor of atmospheric, engaging, and discovery-based gameplay.

Ah no, there's tons of stuff I play and enjoy, CoD games are just one of many. Games I've played the crap out of, most of them beat and even 100%'d, and absolutely loved recently include Drive Club, Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, GTA5, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, and Dying Light.
Dark/Demon Souls games are too ridiculously hard to be considered even good games. I don't mind a challenge but the crap they do in these games like set you like 15 min back from where you died, or give you less health, etc is beyond frustrating.
.
Dark Souls 2 was a step in the right direction I think, I almost enjoyed it. Bloodborne looks awesome but I'm scared it might be way too difficult as well. Like I said I don't mind stuff being somewhat difficult but if it forces me to replay a section way too many times I'll get tired of it quickly. Not many games get too difficult for me, pretty much the Dark/Demon games and Ninja Gaiden games. I know there are plenty of people who love them, and they look nice and all but just not for me.

Of course, no game is for everyone. I don't like GTA games at all, can't stand them, but I know the game has lots of fans who enjoy that series.
You don't have to love any Souls games or Bloodborne. I just wanted to address some of its appeal.
Much of the game's difficulty comes from its insistence that you're always watching 360 degrees around you at all times, which is a definite turn off for gamers who just want to kick ass and have a good time. I see where you're coming from.
No it's just my opinion and from what I've seen around a lot of people won't agree with these opinions, seemed like an appropriate thread to post as I don't want to shat all over other threads where people are discussing them.
Kidding, but I will stand by the opinion nonetheless.
. 1 stumbles too much in the latter half and I reaaaalllyyyy like 2's story. Demon's Souls is nigh-perfection.
The 3D Mario games lost their way with Galaxy and on. While fine platformers, Sunshine is the pinnacle of the series and the series should have kept with the large open and explorable environments instead of straight-away obstacle courses that Galaxy forward became.

okay okay, but let me get this straight, the Souls and Ninja Gaiden games are games that expect you to learn to play them, they are fun and challenging, so it's easy to see why people like them. I'm not a god at gaming, and I have Platinum'd the first 2 Soul games, it's not difficult the games just expect you to think before acting.
The thing I find funny of your post is the "Any games like Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Persona, Pheonix Wright, etc are stupid, don't know how the hell anybody gets excited about stupid looking crap like that. " How does this make any sense? "stupid looking crap?" in what universe? Go see the Persona 5 trailer thread, everyone creamed themselves from that trailer.
AND COME ON, I'm not trying to bash on CoD but saying that CoD is amazing after saying that is like the ultimate parody.
