The reason why BEYONCÉ should've won is because of its revolutionary release, coupled with massive hype, critical acclaim and millions of units sold. Who didn't talk about her album during the release?
Why the hell would you want to stealth release an album, with no promo whatsoever?
It was a daring idea. But it worked out for her really well. The whole project is going to have a long-lasting effect on this industry.
Something like that should be rewarded.
My thing is, above all Beyoncé is a R&B artist and she was the only women and only R&B album to be nominated.. Yet lost to a folk album. I'm sorry but that's the biggest bull of it all. Folk won already two years ago and Rap, R&B and Hip Hop are still treated as second class citizens. Even Sam Smith Soulful album was dissed. It's really just annoying. No matter how cohesive an album is, if it's R&B.. It's never going to win. That's it.
If he's being serious here, then it seems like he did.I'm sure he didn't mind kanye at all, seemed generally interested in him appearing on stage tbh
"I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody," Beck said when asked how he felt about West crashing the stage. "How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?"
Even though he said Beyonce should have won? "Absolutely," replied the humble musician. "I thought she was going to win. Come on, she's Beyonce!"
And what about his diss that Beyonce is true artistry, and you're not? "You can't please everybody, man," he replied. "I still love him and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does."
I hope Kanye gets Beanie Sigel on the new album
Your opinions...

I don't see a single Kanye West album in there do I?
How about on a by country basis?

Hmm...
Now granted Beck should not have won Album of the Year. His best selling album was in 1994, not this year.
Beyonce should have won. The sales were in her corner and she did it with a silent release.
So the Grammys are sending some mixed message bullshit by saying "We only reward arthouse, not popular albums" when the previous year awards were contrary to that fact for "Album of the year".
He has a legitimate gripe and should be upset. She sold well enough to re-release a Platinum boxset the following year.
When did this happen?Didn't Kanye used to get routine;y accused of being racist against black people because he worked with a bunch of white artists?
Good lord.

Revutionary release? If releasing with no prior hype is revolutionary I've been dropping revolutionary mixtapes since I was 19
They're one in the same. The man is the music, there is no separating it. It would factually not be the way it is without his personality.I disagree. As in, personally, I don't see how his idiocy adds to his music. He's a great musician, a great artist, a great producer. He could be all of that and not the blowhard he is. I get having "swag" or whatever in songs (sort of), but TBH his attitude is really a turn off to his art for a lot of people. It will alienate at best, and at worst perpetuate some unsavory thoughts.
Don't listen to Lupe, but I'm thinking more of ATB or Kaskade. I never hear them saying stupid shit, and they're amazing. If they started talking shit and I found out, it'd diminish my views of them as well.
Yup, my tag is awesome. I made the post completely knowing what I said as I was trolling a Fable thread. Not even sure what your wiki links have to do with anything.
Said it better than I ever would. Why does Kanye have to change what he says and does outside of his art to get people to like it?They're one in the same. The man is the music, there is no separating it. It would factually not be the way it is without his personality.
Kanye's music is great because he is outspoken, narcissistic, and confident in himself to a fault. He might be an enigma to some but Kanye really kept it a buck when he did his last promo run and kind of balked at the idea that society tells us to not to call ourselves geniuses in favour of "humility," or a disguised way of limiting your confidence. This all comes across in his musical content and what he does sonically.
The persona is actually why some people like me like him. He's real, knows he's flawed and he's tell you exactly how he feels, which is seemingly a rarity. And there are so many facets of his history that enrich that, and his music.
The record sales will never be there. Music is not as centralized as before due to the Internet. Also, people don't buy music anymore.Kanye West is celebrated BECAUSE he's talented and provocative. People want to see him. He draws attention. He produces beats using baroque, acid, industrial, arthouse, minimalist, synth, and classical influences or even bringing the artist on and tries to bring it to the mainstream. Yeezus and MBDTF were testaments to those efforts and I appreciate that he does this. I bought every single one of his albums on release because he has an ear for music and beats and sounds that appeals to me greatly.
That doesn't mean he deserves to be as celebrated as Michael Jackson, Guns N Roses, The Beatles, or Metallica. He's not at that level of global musicianship, no matter what he says. The record sales globally are not there, so I don't see how his skin color changing would automatically make him more celebrated.

Sounds like Jay's been doing that for years.

I love Beck.Beck used to do shit like this

This thread is hilarious.
It has people getting on Kanye about samples. Beck was huge in the 90s and one thing that made him stand out in the alternative genre at the time was his use of samples and looped drums and shit.
Then it has people saying Kanye can only sing through auto-tune therefore Beck is more talented. Beck distorts his voice on damn near every big track he's done! And I'd hardly call what Beck does singing. He talks over songs rhythmically.
People need to listen to more music and actually learn how it's produced before they start ranting. I doubt anyone in this debacle really cares about the grammy and are probably more than happy to have a part in showing that it's just theater and a mockery.

Judging by his two new songs.. His time is up

It is for big artists.
Most of their albums cost millions of dollars to produce. Big artists start doing promo for their new album months before release to spread the word out.
Bey released a new album overnight. And all of the songs had video's that she secretly shot. No one knew about the project. No leaks, nothing.
So no, this can't be compared to your soundcloud album that you recorded in your basement.

Not many here actually want to talk music. They'd rather just continue to argue about race.
OP finds Kanye West fucking around to be racist, but will defend racist and homophobic The Duck Dinasty guy to the death because thats not racism...thats just "freedom of speech"
Get the fuck outta here.

It doesn't matter man. It really doesnt.Trying to compare Beyonce and Beck is foolish. That being said why does it matter how Beyonce released her album or how many she sold?
Next up, Beysus will explain why Beyonce should win a Grammy simply because she tried really hard.Regardless, that isn't a reason you should win a Grammy. If someone released an album in a golden box that you had to climb Mt. Everest to go listen to, that would be pretty revolutionary. I wouldn't expect they get a Grammy for it.
