Hi,

Can anybody tell me whether it is safe to preorder from Wowhd in Ireland.

Do they deliver in a reasonable time frame?

I orderex from them years ago and the game they sent turned up, had to wait 5 months for a refund!

Have things changed?

WOWHD = WOWHD no matter what url you're using. It all comes from Hong Kong anyway.

-snip-

Normally takes 2 or 3 days. Not sure about returns.

Thanks.

And yeah, that is pretty shitty practice. I only used them for some US-imports, since they had good prices and low shipping costs outside the UK, and every NTSC version of a game had it mentioned, so I just assumed they'd do the same with Australian games. Never dealt with their CS however, and that certainly is no way to deal with customers. Will think twice about doing business with them in the future.

WOWHD take up to 6 weeks from shipping to delivery. Couldn't recommend it.

I've placed 7 orders at WOW HD in the past. Average delivery time is 6.7 working days for me. I'm in Belgium.

They're not fast, but Play-Asia for example is way slower.
And Zavvi has an average delivery time of 5.5 days for me.

Thanks for the replies, one more quick question, has anybody been charged import duty if WowHD ship from Hong King?

I'm not sure if I ever ordered anything from them where VAT was due, i.e. package > €22. But no. I think they mark down too. I"ve never asked them to do so, btw.

Edit: I had Fantasy Life preordered with them for around €30. And it went through without any problems.

Yes, every time the package isn't CD-sized (3DS cases are CD-sized). So anything in a DVD-sized envelope is assumed to be over the limit and gets me a letter from the customs office.

For €3,50 maybe. lol

Because it was a 3DS game that looks like a CD in the package and CDs are assumed to be way below the 22EUR limit by default.^^

That still doesn't mean the price on the package shouldn't be €30.

But they marked it down as well, to a $15 CD or something. :-)

Play-Asia on the other hand doesn't mark down. I ordered Dokuro for Vita from them, which is even smaller than a CD (but was posted in a regular envelop), and ended up paying €22 or something in VAT and administrative fees.

Haha, so they're literally just pretending to dispatch stuff so that they can charge you early? What a scam!

That's quite a hike! Rakuten is definitely the best bet while that voucher is active. My controller arrived yesterday, it's super-nice. I hate the gamepad so it's really cool to actually be able to enjoy playing stuff on Wii U now.

Yeh I might just give in.

Wolfenstein : The New Order on PS4 for 14,99€ on amazon.fr

link

Amazing, thank you

Just grabbed it for £15 i think! Delivery to Scotland. Though may have been £18. Was unclear - i may take issue with it if they charge £18 cos the 'total payment' was £15.

If i trade this back in ill prolly make like a tenner on it!

How does trading in game on GMG work? I go to my library and go to import but then the link craps out. Has anyone traded in stuff before? Is it worthwhile?

Monster hunter 4 ultimate 3DS on Amazon France for €33.90 until the 17th Feb I think.

What is it wih Amazon France and discounts on new nintendo stuff?

Nintendo soft- and hardware traditionally does well in France. They'll probably take in higher quantities than Amazon UK? Which could potentially grant them higher discounts.

Not exactly a deal, but Amazon Germany has now opened their 20th Anniversary PS4 promotion contest thingy.

They're giving away only one console to whomever posts the "most impressive" picture of themselves in front of their game collection. So, yeah, not even going to enter.

Think I'll go for the Amazon France deal for the new 3DS. It's about £120 if you pay in GBP or £115 if you pay in EUR on the site. Does anyone know if it's worthwhile to pay the higher amount in GBP if you bank with Natwest? Because of their conversation rate/any fees they have?
I didn't realise this. I paid in GBP on the site and it came to £122 shipped. Still cheaper than the £150 on the UK site. I wonder what it would've been I chose to pay by Euro. My credit card company (Natwest) would've probably charged a conversion fee.

Whoops

Edit: Just had a bad experience with one online shop, went to post about it and found out it's a banned site, as the url was asterixed, I didn't realise it was a banned site my bad,

Wish i'd asked some gaffers here before ordering from that shop. Too bad

Any UK types have anything good to say about preorders with The Game Collection? They're the cheapest I can find Majora and Monster Hunter but ideally I'd need at least one to arrive on Friday as I'm going away.

Not a preorder, but ordered a game from them on the thursday morning at 8am, it turned up the very next day, and i was really shocked as the postage was free. And had a 24 hour sticker on the envelope.

Was it a place where you go to Shop To buy get games by any chance?

I just got my MM order, they strangely seem to have sent it Signed For. Free delivery.

It's not actually a good thing though, if I have to sign for something that means I have to get it the next day at the sorting office most of the time. Same reason Amazon Prime is useless to me (unless I had stuff sent to my office instead of home).

Anyone know where I can get a new 3DS screen protector in the UK? Preferaby HORI.

Amazon has Hori ones for new XL, but not the new regular. Seems stupid considering the new XL can use the old XL protector but the new regular has different size screens.

What's the deal with importing stuff from Play-Asia to the UK?

I've used them a couple of times in the past and never had any problems, but Puyo Puyo Tetris turned up yesterday with a £12.66 customs charge slapped on it.

I thought this was taken into account in the Play-asia price? Or was I just lucky with my previous orders?

You were lucky previously. if they're caught, they're taxed. It's not taken care of by Play Asia.

You just got lucky before. There's always a chance for custom charges with Play Asia (depending on local laws). I got most things through customs with their cheapest bubble wrap envelope shipping method, but they seem to have removed that.

In the past it was possible to ask support to mark down your orders so customs doesn't look at them, but that comes with other risks and might not be worth it.

The Mega Man amiibo (and I'm guessing some others too) is 12,49€ on amazon.de
Edit: some of them (like Bowser and Mario) are below 12€ actually

I received my "brand new, factory sealed" copy of Boulder Dash Rocks from Base.com this morning... Came in a fairly sturdy cardboard box, btw, which was not damaged at all, so it nicely preserved the state it was sent in to me.
Edit: there was another game in the box too, which was also completely unharmed.

Thanks, Base.com.

Little update on this one. I contacted Base.com because there is no cheap way for me to return the game. I informed at my local post office, and it'd cost me at least €6 (without proof of postage, mind you). (The game cost around €11) So I wanted to know if they'd refund me for shipping it back.

Today I got this reply:

Dear foobarry81

We have received your damaged or faulty return request of:
Boulder Dash Rocks (DS)

Your order has been reset and a replacement will be sent as soon as possible.

We do not need the damaged item back.

Kind regards,

Very nice of them. I hadn't expected this. I guess a damaged game is no good for them either. But still, very happy with this solution.

Have there been any deals for GTAV PC yet? I really don't want to pay £35-40 for a game I played - at that price - over a year and half ago.

The PS4/XB1 versions showed retailers that they'll pay top dollar for it, so I'm thinking even £30 would be a lucky find.
