Stupid character poses/animations

Halo 5 Brofist - the thread

This may be annoying but this is also fairly realistic in sports settings. Doesn't make me ask "why would you do that?!" to the Spartans. Maybe "why would you make this like a sport?" to 343.

"Bent knees inward" (or whatever it's called) is the worst

It also reminds me that some people actually are attracted to women acting like little girls and that creeps me out.

Love making in Bioware games is chock-full of awkwardness. This is one with Merrill should suffice:

Good lord.

On that note, I was about to mention some of the postures in Dragon Age Inquisition. Everyone would have the same weird hunch with their arms crossed limply at the front whenever they spoke to you. It really bothered me; whilst not as garish as some of the knock-kneed penguin footed poses above, it just looks awkward.

A lot of Araki's poses aren't stupid, they just have really poor anatomy. Dude should have really explained himself better before getting roasted.

Also I really liked Vanille's running animation.

I can't find a gif of the whole routine he does, but gifs of this sequence singlehandedly made me avoid Resonance of Fate. I hate it. I can't describe how much it bothers me in words.

The vast majority are modeled after fashion magazine poses though. He loves european fashion. Guys, Jojo doesn't fit this thread. OP is asking for "stupid" not "fabulously awesome"

There is this super weird animation in Yakuza game where the character tilt their head to their side while twirling there arm and pointing

I think it has a lot to do with the increasingly insular nature of anime culture, resulting in a sort of feedback loop presenting female characters in more and more exaggerated postures and animations.

I mean, shit, I thought the female animations in Skyrim were awkward enough. But clearly that wasn't even close to "feminine" enough for the modding scene which leans towards aforementioned anime stuff.

This applies to most games really..

That random bobbing animation that most characters will do when standing still. It looks like they're breathing heavy. I think the most extreme case was in Deadly Premonition. It's like a weird rocking motion or something. Human beings just don't do that

Da fuq? I know it's differents strokes and all that, but that scene is comedy gold and intentionally silly. How can anyone hate it? Does not compute

Being indifferent or not finding it funny, sure, yeah. But actually hate it.... It's a wide, wide world, I guess.

From what I head women walking like that is a thing in Japan and that even before manga or video games existed.

The problem that the majority of games that have that stupid animation style aren't actually set in Japan, skyrim especially.

Children usually have knock knees during the age 2-5 so I guess that's why it's associated with kids, but there are also grown people who have it and it's often treated like a medical condition.

Edit: on further googling it does also seem to be a culture thing in japan.

It's the scene that made me go out and buy the game when this started circulating. Glad I did, this game has one of my favorite battle systems of all time. Such a fun game, and always has room to be super silly like this.

Ever look at the way a character poses or animates and think "why the hell did they make him/her act like this?" Some examples:

WTF? Plus she flails her arms around wildly when she runs. I guess they thought it looked cute but mostly she just looks stupid and annoying.

So damn true. I cringed so hard when she got her weapon as well... Who the fuck acts like that?

More Japan bashing unfortunately, but this sort of acting/animation:

It's cultural differences, of course, but I've never got on with the exaggeration in gestures.
Like with above, her act of bravery could be presented easily through expression alone. Instead it reads like "I must...be STRONG!"

Ya, that one always bugged me.

It's like Microsoft's marketing department, unable to do so naturally, tried to come up with a mathematical formula for looking cool and casual.

That hip position is a common practice in sculpture actually. See Michel Angelo's David for the most famous example.

Point taken. I just wanted to point out that this isn't something that is anime's fault.

I think that pose is fine. What annoys me the most in some japanese media is dialog that have to points out every little thing.

"You're inside me!"
"So much!"
"Kimochi!"

I can see that, the art has plenty of expression already, you don't need to spell it out for me.
What type of media are you watching exactly?
Magical Girl anime about the power of friendship and unity.

Funny you post that gesture. I actually hate that one, not because I'm salty from losing since I can take a 'Well what is it?' from a Giant Dad any day. It just doesn't fit in the Dark Souls universe and looks really dumb because of that. That was From jumping the shark as far as gestures went. Hope there isn't anything like that in Bloodborne.
