Stupid character poses/animations

The Dinner Dance from Infinite Undiscovery.

gross

It doesn't need to be over-exaggerated, but I imagine not doing that would make the animations look even wonkier, especially as graphics improve.

Dark Souls shares all animations between male and female characters and it doesn'tn stick out at all.

I can't find a gif of the whole routine he does, but gifs of this sequence singlehandedly made me avoid Resonance of Fate. I hate it. I can't describe how much it bothers me in words.

I quite agree.

Femshep's manly animations are terrible too. Like the way she sits in Mass Effect 2. Ugh.

(don't know it this is from ME2 or not, but I remember a scene similar to that)

I think that's a very good pose for a hooker.

The only problem is Vaan wasn't really a hooker but if he was, this would be a good pose!

I'm gonna end the thread right here.

ASHELIA B'NARGIN DALMASCA from Final Fantasy XII

First, she's doing the stupid inward knee thing with her legs, but she's taking it to a noticeable extreme. Also what's up with her touching her nose? It looks like she's picking it. This is a character who starts the game in exile after her family is killed and she's making THIS pose?

Bonus round:

She's about to break her spine with that pose. Also the hair looks like a hood. And why is she standing on one leg? Is she walking? While looking backwards? That's an accident waiting to happen.
Seriously, why is her skirt so short

Walking in Tekken.
Ryu/Ken/Akuma walking animation in SFA (or any game that uses those sprites).
Athena Asamiya idle stance, specially in KOF 2003.
Mortal Kombat, when Kitana/Mileena/Jade arecrouching, they do it like if they are doing squats.
Raiden in MK3 (he is dancing like Athena in KOF)
Kitana in MKX, she is just showing off her butt.
probably most Mortal Komobat animations.
Patroklos in Soul Calibur 5, way to leave yourself open.
Bowser running animation in Melee and Brawl. What's going on?

Cross-eyed Peach gets me every time. Like, why did the animators decide to make her look like that?
She doesn't look cross.eyed to me,the second pic I think she is looking at whats below her, maybe a Goomba who is about to be squashed.

It bothered me how every woman had the same exaggerated walk/run. I couldn't control a female character for too long cause it was so distracting. lol

That's rubber soul though.
Why does...oh never mind I just realized his stands power. Kakyoin still Bishie as fuck.

Point taken. I just wanted to point out that this isn't something that is anime's fault.

I think that pose is fine. What annoys me the most in some japanese media is dialog that have to points out every little thing.

"You're inside me!"
"So much!"
"Kimochi!"

I can see that, the art has plenty of expression already, you don't need to spell it out for me.Magical Girl anime about the power of friendship and unity.
I think you just admitted to something but I think the reason redundant lines get repeated is because possibly a majority of animation in Japan was translated from Manga where not every single action is drawn or might be hard to make out when just looking at the picture.

This is the epitome of "No fun allowed." Part of the Souls series charm are those kind of incongruous elements. Gavlan's "Gavlan wheel, Gavlan deal" or Solaire's praising of the sun complete with posing are part of what makes these games memorable.

Must be a Dark Souls II thing I'm not getting since I love praise the sun (and every gesture in DS1 for that matter) but dislike this one and I have no idea who Gavlan is. Gestures are one of my favorite aspects of PvP but this one always stood out to me as just straight up bad.

Poor localization. Some things just don't translate well 1:1
I don't think that this is solely a translation problem. People just state the obvious, sometimes there is more to it, but most of the times it''s just to make sure that the reader understands, even if it is already explained by the picture in the panel.

When I say media, I meant manga as well. Manga are very expressive. Most manga, even mediocre ones, speak through their panels. More than most comics manga translates feelings in general. Most comics are like photostories, showing what happens. Manga on the other hand add things like super deformed, exaggerated expressions and actions, backgrounds that are not the actual backgrounds (like flowers or speedlines) to show more then just what happens.
And yet they often feel the need to state what already is said through the picture.

The JoJo poses are a bunch of awkward pop/rockstar/model poses from the 80s and are now somewhat of a trademark of the author so he has to keep doing them even if they look stupid.

You look stupid!

Glorious femshep run.

Also a lot of games try to have "girly" leg poses mid-jump for girls, like with the legs bowed-out. Jumps don't actually last long enough for you to do that without landing on your knees like an idiot.

Isn't that actually quite s good example of why a run animation made / mo capped for a male character model can't just be transposed onto a female body shape?
