My brother deleted my WoW character that I put 500+ hours into.
I can look back at that and laugh, and I learned a valuable lesson.
I think you need to grow up a bit. You think someone should get physically assaulted for trolling a kid in a videogame.

Thank God there are assholes out there ready and willing to give this kid a lesson in how there are assholes out there just like themselves. Otherwise this kid might have grown up without that realization, because that happens.

First, a few serious questions:
1) What kind of parent allows this to get posted on YT under her real name?! Let's assume the kid posted it on his own but that's still seriously messed up.
2) Why is a kid of this age broadcasting/being allowed to broadcast?
I'd love to say I felt sorry for the kid, but nope. Yeah, I feel "bad" for him in that I can relate to a) getting screwed over by people of all types and b) losing unknown eternities of video game progress separately. Both at the same time? Whatever. Exploits in MMOs are ban material and are in no way comparable to single-player cheat codes or offline-only glitching. Delete offending material on sight, please.
That said, this level of emotional trauma is a bit much. These are two good lessons everyone needs to learn but not in this combination.

DestinyGAF is on the case! Some folks are messaging him and I think plan to help him slog back through the grind and carry him along for some runs to get some of his stuff back. Bungie isn't going to help though. They have a warning about this very thing on their site. That sucks for the kid though.
Oh and someone also found older posts about this same guy doing thr exact same thing to someone else back in December. Who knows how many people he's done this to.

Accidentally left my copy of Pokemon Red at my friends house across the street one day by accident. Go to get it either the next day or in the same day a few hours later and she already overwrote my save.
And then a kid stole a copy of Pokemon Gold of mine.

Hard lessons learned. Had crap like that happen when I lent out my MMO accounts back in the day. No matter what, assholes will be assholes. You learn to never give anyone your account under any circumstances. If it's friends, they had better be like brothers/sisters to you.
Overall, I'm indifferent on this one since he was doing it to exploit.

I have empathy, plenty of it (It's part of my job actually), and thinking this is funny doesn't signify any lack of empathy.
And I know the importance of game saves. If someone broke into my house and deleted my game saves, I'd be mad. But this kid gave control of his console over to someone he didn't know and the guy trolled him. It's no different than when some guy on Runescape said he would dupe my Addy armor and then walked off with it. It's a different beast then accidentally overwriting a game save or losing a memory card.
I don't even care that the kid was glitching or whatever, it's just funny to me.

I tried to cheat on online games when I was young as well. Sometimes I got away with it (Inf resources in mp Empire Earth), sometimes I didn't (Losing so many of my best items in Runescape). But I eventually learned that the potential consequences don't make the reward worth it.
I'm not saying the kid SHOULD be punished. I'm saying that I see no reason to feel bad for the kid.
If I rewarded everyone who tried to do something that they know they shouldn't do, we'd have a lot more assholes in the world would we not?
Judging from the initial reactions of the kid, he's pretty mature for his age, so I'm sure it's going to be a lesson well learned, and I'm in the "better to learn lessons while young and in a way that doesn't really matter" camp.

Tbh. We should just take him into raids as soon as he's level 3. Pretty sure 5 OP DGAF Guardians can solo crota and boost him up in a few weeks.
Hell make 3 of the same class characters and rinse and repeat.
It's fine to say that the kid made a mistake, but then to say that you don't feel sorry is just...

Can't do that. He'll have to level up to within 3 (I think?) levels of the raid to even be allowed to play it. Then he can be carried.
Why not? The kid just didn't know not to do that. He learned his lesson, but he still lost 50 hours of time just for being a naive kid.

When I was a kid I used to play Pokemon Yellow all the time and this girl wanted to play it. I told her to play on my savefile because there was only one. I leave for 5 mins and come back and she's asking what to do after she beat Gary...I snatched the gameboy from her hand and cut the power off thinking there's no way she possibly saved the game.
SHE FUCKING DID.
I lent my Wii and Twilight Princess to somebody and told them "slot 3" but they saved over slot 1 because it was a lower percentage than slot 2 (my brother's).
It's always Zelda for me.

The biggest thing I took from this is that you can give control to someone over your PS4 to play a game for you. That's kinda neat, in a way, if used responsibly. I had no idea it was a feature.
