Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

By and by I don't think ages need to come into this. If someone went into a store and left their car running. Terrible that it happened but I don't think Sony should do anything more than ban him from shareplay

Wow that is beyond messed up...I feel for the kid :/

I really don't understand how you can do that to someone, let alone someone who obviously sounds like a child, and not feel like a giant prick.

I don't get the people saying that because he's 11, he shouldn't be playing M rated games and that he deserved it because of that.

The ESRB ratings are for two things: #1. to let parents now of the possible content in the game before purchase and to #2. not let stores sell said games to minors by themselves, but to the adults that do give the consent to the minor to play said games.

The ratings are not actual bans, just guidance put in games to unsespecting parents, so that they can't sue publishers because "that game had blood".

And considering that it was the mother of the kid that uploaded the video of her kid to her account, she (one might assume at least) gave the consent to her kid to play it.

I think something should be done that's not over reacting. I reckon a reset of the guy's Destiny characters and Sony should wipe all trophy data from his account. Guy cost the kid many hours in levelling and grinding that char and gear. Punishment fits the crime. Although it doesn't deter people creating blank/new SEN accounts to troll on......

Wipe away 1000's or even 10,000's of hours for the dozens he wiped from the kid... Not exactly eye for an eye.

Perma Share play ban + plus perma Destiny ban would be fine.

The comments in this thread are so horrible. Every one of you who still plays Destiny has likely farmed the cave, or various other areas in the game, which in themselves are not intentional means of gaining whatever you were gaining from them by the devs. In most MMOs, people are punished for that type of behavior.

And now you guys are condemning a kid who was likely trying to do something you all would have jumped on the opportunity to do in a heartbeat. He's obviously put a lot of time into the game already based on his character levels and gear.

I feel really sorry for the kid, and had to close the video before the waterworks started. He was really mature for his age, and I probably wouldn't have behaved like he did while in the same party as the guy who did that.

I hope something comes of this. It really shouldn't be that easy to delete a toon. In most games with this much work put into a single character, you really have to go out of your way to delete a character or a high-end item. Holding down a button really doesn't prevent accidental deletion.

Edit: Also, lol at all the people commenting on the age restriction put on the game and the kid's age. Seriously? How does that explain the behavior of the person who deleted his stuff? How do you have so little sympathy?

Not sure if this is true or not but the guy who did the deleting claims he wasn't running on his own account
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/featu...year-old-s-destiny-data-is-a-victim-also.aspx

Twitch also shouldn't be allowing 11 year olds to be streaming games on their own, thought that kind of stuff was not allowed. Nobody would be ok with an 11 year old girl on chatroulette.

This needs to be checked into. If the guy on Kirmits account isn't the owner, he should be immediately banned for other reasons. If this is true, it needs to be addressed asap.

Yeah except his buddy ratted him out multiple times

My guess? Kirmit is being constantly harassed and is running scared right now.

If it was someone else on the account wouldn't BuzzGoku know and mention this?

I'm calling completely fake on Kirmits response.

As am I. He since deleted the videos he uploaded of him playing Destiny that took place AFTER the date of his alleged car accident. This is 100% fake if not extremely exaggerated, I'm calling it.

Damn, kid got played ice-cold. Shit happens, there are assholes out there. Good thing he learned it this way rather than in a serious situation with real consequences. Hope he takes care more about who to trust in the future.

Even if the tale of the accident and a "friend" doing the deed is fake, I do think the people wishing death and cancer and whatnot on him are taking it too far (and yes, I've been advocating his account get banned). And I don't disbelieve he's probably gotten some of that, sadly. One reason I wouldn't support doxxing him because it may encourage a psycho to take it into his own hands.

Honestly, I really wish people would think before wishing physical harm on anyone. What he did was very wrong. It's not worth wishing death and cancer on him though... It's worth him not being able to play online with others.

Perspective and all that.

Funny though, if what he says about the harassment and Sony helping him keep it down... seems Sony is doing more for him than it is for the kid. I'm betting what would help some is if Sony did actually take action against him. I'm betting a lot of the harassment is because people are seeing nothing being done to him and think it should be taken into their own hands because they feel justice must be done and Sony isn't doing it (nor Bungie but really since it was Sony's system abused I think this is more Sony's responsibility).

I would never wish any harm onto him, just the same alleged "justice" he claims to dispense sent back his way to teach him the lesson that he's not the one who enforces the rules.

That said, I contacted the writer of the GI piece and we have essentially agreed to disagree based on conflicting facts. I hope it comes out soon though, because the correct party needs to be punished for such behavior.

Well, it sounds like that guy has a legitimate excuse.

If he was in a significant head on collision, as reported, and was on the pain meds that would necessitate, it's not hard to understand how some jerk visitor could get access to his account.

Also terrible hearing about the 'I hope you die of cancer' threats when he just lost his sister a few years ago. Though threats of that type are disgusting independent of personal loss.

As for whether he played since, I don't know that this contradicts anything. People can still have friends over.

Who knows. The threats he is getting are awful either way.

Doesn't that article say they confirmed his story (the accident, death of his sister, etc) with police reports and such?

He very well could have had an accident. It doesn't confirm the part about his sister.

I don't buy for a second people are coming in and out. His buddy seems to be pretty outspoken on reddit. He wouldn't mention any of this?

When these sociopaths get cornered all bets are off, they're like wild animals. A limitless amount of scenerios flying out their ass like a clown car.

This makes me mad beyond belief. That guy who did that needs to be banned and have his account deleted from Destiny.

Agreed!

The amount of time you need to invest into this game to get to that level and get exotics is painfully long.

Why do something like that to someone? Just sadistic!

Completely a lie. Destiny game information can be tracked by multiple sites

http://destinytracker.com/destiny/player/ps/KirmitTHEfrog

If you check this it shows that he has the newest armor and weapons that could only be achieved in December and you would have to grind for multiple week because you are only able to get a chance to grind loot once per raid run on a character.

This guy is terrible.

If only that was true.

In order to get that armor you have to do a raid (think WoW type communication but less hectic). I doubt anyone would do that for 3 of his characters and have to actively find a group of people to do it with. Destiny isn't a type of game where someone would get on and grind for a friend, the game is very boring for those who are not invested in the loot drop. This is coming from someone who only plays Destiny (and some GTA V), it would be laughable to think that random people (multiple) would all know what to do and be willing to do it for this guy.

Also if you look recently it shows he has completed the "Weekly Nightfall" on all 3 characters, that means he has to have done it on Tuesday. This week's "Weekly Nightfall" was a real SoB that a lot of people opted out of even trying to complete because of the difficulty of it. I wouldn't complete it three times for anyone besides myself.

Yes, sometimes in life you have to suck it up when bad things happen. Seeing as she can bear to go to school with him, she can hold on for a few more years.

Not even sure how to feel..

11 Year old spending that much time on console gaming = bad
11 year old freely sharing with people he doesn't know that well = bad
Stranger being a complete ass = bad

There is no good side to this story, other than the kid needed to learn a valuable lesson, and whilst no one deserves being treated like this, life is unfair and learning that lesson will only stand him in good stead..

Clearly he isn't emotionally able to deal with the situation, hence why I'd say it should be a wakeup call to his parents that perhaps extended gaming sessions are not that healthy for him..

All IMO, I have an 11 and 8 year old, and I put limits on their gaming time and activities since they have had episodes of not being able to stop playing and are very naives, so I carefully vet who they interact with, explaining the issues and pitfalls of 'people'..

This guy is trash. I'm sure his life already sucks if he felt the desire to do something like this. I don't believe the story about his "friends" being the guilty party at all.

wow...saw the video

-Kermit is a douche

-kids are too trusting (we all knew that)

-this could have been a worse scenario

- a lot of you guys are douches....give the kid a break

At this point I am afraid that nothing is going to be done to Kermit - other than being trashed by the gaming media. I wish Sony would just ban his account from PSN and be done with it.

Unfortunately, it seems clear at this point that nothing will be done. I think if Bungie or Sony were going to do anything, it would've been done yesterday. It's hard, because obviously he and his friends prey on people, but SharePlay isn't hacking, so there's not much that can be done.

The thing is I am pretty sure that Blizzard and Microsoft would drop the ban hammer hard and fast in this situation. Bungie may not have the ability to ban accounts and may not be able to wipe player data due to their spaghetti code mess that is Destiny, but Sony needs to step up. I don't see a need to delete his trophy data, just ban him from playing online.

Sony is hella fast to ban over monetary reasons and hacked accounts, but obviously greifing is not something they care about.

Can't you get banned for griefing on PSN?

It's probably not just losing the characters which led him to breaking down at the end, but the realisation that he placed trust in a stranger and it lead to something bad happening to him. In the grand scheme of things, not as bad as it could have been, but still damaging to someone who's young enough and still naive.

Think Bungie could maybe do something small for the kid and send out some merch. Just to let him know not everyone's a dickhead.

You can, but Bungie and seemingly Sony are treating this as a cautionary tale more than anything. The fact that the kid used SharePlay is what makes this more difficult for them, because as a lot of people (sometimes harshly) pointed out in this thread, it was foolish to hand over complete control of his PS4 and then walk away from the screen. There's a big warning screen before you even hand over control, so I think Sony and Bungie are finding it hard to punish kirmit.
