Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

Sucks for the kid but unless I am missing something did he really just give a random stranger complete remote access to his PS4?

I know people are less concerned with privacy and security every year, but damn don't parents still teach their kids "don't get into vans with strangers, don't post personal info on the internet, and don't trust strangers with your shit?"

I always felt maybe it was just the old-guy-on-lawn part of me worried about how lax people are about the data they freely share online, but people are just way too trusting. More adults really need to teach their kids not to trust anyone or anything in person or online, and to think through the consequences of your actions before you act.

yup, I blame the parents

So many people in this thread are judging him for"cheating" and they're just making it obvious that they don't play Destiny. Everybody plays Destiny with the mindset of exploiting it every way possible.

I have a younger cousin who used to delete my save data in everything all the time if I ever let him near any of my games. I'd tell him not to and he'd still do it, every time. It was really weird.

Then I would always cry and upload a video of it to YouTube.

Gotta admit i was kind of laughing when he deleted the characters, but the crying at the end turned it around quick smart.

At least its a good lesson for the future. I am sure he can grind it all back again.

Why not? The kid just didn't know not to do that. He learned his lesson, but he still lost 50 hours of time just for being a naive kid.

I imagine most of my indifference stems from the deep scars of disappointment I still carry from Destiny's release. But I guess I just feel like when you're an adult and have to deal with tons of other stuff, a kid losing his video game character doesn't really register as much of a huge deal. Maybe now he'll move on to a better game!

So you're 13?

Does nobody on here understand hyperbole?

Of course I'm not advocating showing up to this trolls house and beating him to death with a baseball bat. I was just pointing how mean spirited the act was and maybe the troll deserves a smack upside the head if he thinks this is socially acceptable behavior. I mean, isn't this in the same vain as taking candy from a baby?

Whatever. I'm bailing out of this thread. You guys feel free to continue your over analysis.

And also, please don't bail from the thread. I understand that your pokemon red save file was deleted in the past but that's no excuse to run away from everything in life. If you like, you can PM me and we can work through this and your violent tendencies...together.

Kid got what he deserved. Giving control of his system to a stranger for the purpose of cheating. I can't believe the "that poor kid" comments.

He's an 11 year old kid. His brain is not fully developed and many kids his age don't fully understand the consequences of such actions. There is a reason 'stranger danger' become so well-known, kids are gullible.

Man, what's with all the harsh people in here? Ever heard of empathy?

I laughed. At the end of the day Bungie (who are super great with their fans) are going to restore this kids stuff, give him a warning, and ban the griefer.

The kid learned a valuable lesson and the only thing he is going to lose is a couple days of playtime while Bungie restores his shit.

Win win.

I haven't played Destiny, so don't know anything about that, but it's no excuse for cheating.
Then I guess you better quit your job and hop onto Destiny 24/7 and start telling everybody that their exploits are not cool. The exploits are used in parts of the game that are not PvP.

nah thats not true and kinda douchey to people like myself that actually play the game legit.

its also a pretty shitty justification.

and they take those items off for iron banner I assume? I guess it says more for why people play Destiny at this point. My friends don't even have fun, they just skip enemies one a week for a hopeful loot drop they dont get. rinse and repeat.

I don't play destiny, so that makes cheating right? How about you ask people who play world of warcraft, or any other MMO is cheating is alright.

Are Bungie even aware of this?

So I take it you exploit games a lot. Good to know.

Awesome, now he knows and all he lost was a couple of video game characters.

Also, let's say everything went according to plan, the person he share played successfully glitched him from 23 to 30...and then the kid's account got banned from Destiny. Would you be asking us to feel sorry for him then?

To be fair, it's possible they can and they just say that so they don't get hounded by people all the time. Either way the kid is probably SOL.

All I learned from this topic is that there are a lot of heartless people on GAF. It's sad that many can't seem to remember what it was like being a kid.

This thread made me remember the Game Genie was all the rage back when I was his age or maybe a few years younger. Seriously everyone had/wanted one... glitched the hell out of all my NES games.

Lol. I'm over my Pokemon drama and here are my real thoughts.

Destiny is a shit game. That troll did that kid a favor. Hopefully now he can move onto something better.

lmao at people who are treating Destiny exploits so seriously. I remember when the loot cave was happening, everyone in the OT was abusing that shit.

The saddest part of this story is the number of people who still don't know about the SharePlay feature. It's amazing when used the way it was intended, arguably the best feature this gen.

Damn hearing him cry at the end sucked. It's a lesson learned the hard way but whoever deleted his info is a POS in my book. Also all this talk about cheat and him deserving it is bs, can anyone seriously tell me no one cheated when they were that age in a game.

As I said, he had a mythoclast which is much harder to get than a plan c...seems weird to delete the easily replaced weapon.

I've not played destiny for a while mind, it may have changed.
You need to watch the whole video, or at least from about 13 min on. That weapon being lost is the least of that kid's problems here.

When I was a kid I used to play Pokemon Yellow all the time and this girl wanted to play it. I told her to play on my savefile because there was only one. I leave for 5 mins and come back and she's asking what to do after she beat Gary...I snatched the gameboy from her hand and cut the power off thinking there's no way she possibly saved the game.

SHE FUCKING DID.

In my case it took me a good minute to realize what was wrong when I got my copy of Red back.

"Wait I don't remember Venasaur being a Bulb- OH NO."

I lent my Wii and Twilight Princess to somebody and told them "slot 3" but they saved over slot 1 because it was a lower percentage than slot 2 (my brother's).

It's always Zelda for me.

Yeah in Zelda it seems really common too, I just got lucky with it though.

Why do people keep assuming that someone thinking this is funny means that they have no empathy?

I can get some people finding it funny. Even the harshest jokes make people laugh sometimes. I was referring more to the people here posting that 'he got what he deserved' as if they were talking about some criminal.

I don't think so - they'd open the customer support floodgates if they did, though I'm sure they get plenty of support tickets for people losing items like this as it is.

I'll join the crowd considering he learned his lesson. Sure the other guy is an asshole, but that's the lesson, there are some out there, and you shouldn't trust anybody. The kids is lucky to have learnt that without losing anything of value : a few hours of playtime is nothing for a kid that age... Well for anybody actually, those are just virtual characters in a virtual world. He'll survive.

The way some people are acting in this thread you'd think the cops broke in and shot the kid's dog or something.
