Street Fighter V - Charlie Nash trailer; beta for all pre-orders in NA

THE character?

Can we throw Oro and Twelve in there too, pls?
┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐
Lol, even though I love both characters I can see Oro not coming back. Twelve though ended in a cliffhanger so hopefully it comes back.
You will never see Oro, Twelve, Necro, Remy, Urien or
Q
ever again.

Be like me and just cry into a pillow every night. It helps.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW?!
I dunno about Q. He left nothing but unanswered questions.

Remy's story was concluded and there's no reason to bring him back.

For Urien, I heard that Street Fighter V was placed between Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter 3 in timeline. Basically we haven't met Urien yet in a sense.

It's possible that Bison might got new body in Street Fighter V. He was looking for a new body in Street Fighter 4, correct?

I don't remember if Bison is alive or not in the Street Fighter 3 timeline since I know that that's the furthest part of the timeline, but Bison looks to have a new design completely with that coat he's wearing. But since Charlie is in this, it's definitely after SF4 story-wise since Guile was looking for him in SF4 still. No idea if it's after SF3 though.

Bison was dead if I recall, Akuma killed his ass.

Ranked issues early on probably scared off a good portion of people who don't have anybody to endless with. They are currently still active in the PC USF4 ranked play.

I just meant that he's the only normal dude left, besides Alex (who I forgot about, he probably has a decent chance of returning too). Like, fucking TWELVE is never coming back, for example.

I think the new returnees in V will be Alpha dudes, mostly. Oh, and Skullomania.

Oh I see what you mean. RIP Skullomania. Capcom please buy those EX character rights from Akira already.

That's why he is called Q of course.

I wish they wouldn't bother with all the "back from the dead" stuff. The story is completely irrelevant in a fighting game, a previous "death" shouldn't stop a good character coming back or having to make up some silly zombie version of them just to let them back in.

yeah I think... everyone from that game who didn't come back for IV is never coming back ever

except maybe Sean

I think Alex have good chance to be in SF5 due to his teaser poster in USF4.

My only roster request is a grizzled, too-old-for-this-shit Haggar with a five o' clock shadow and graying hair. He can replace Zangief if need be, who I'm sure will return as DLC or in SSFV.

Alpha brought us Cody, Guy, Rolento, and Sodom, SFIII brought us Hugo, and SFIV brought us Poison. Haggar's time is now.

Well, Super upgrade for SFV is pretty much disconfirmed by rumors. Here is a quote about it.

No Super Street Fighter 2X + EX (Updates kinda like League of Legends / Killer Instinct)

Also I'm with you for Haggar :)

Street Fighter V happened before Street Fighter 3 according to the rumors that we had in other threads. I would assume that Bison probably lost his body again in Street Fighter V.

Aww yeah, Charlie and Bipson!

I love that they're reinforcing that yes, Charlie did actually die in Alpha 3 by having his body literally stitched together at the seams. Love the moveset and the fact that they're more or less lifting the Shadow storyline from the comics/Marvel Vs. Capcom.

He was assumed to be, until they brought him back in IV and retconned his Super Turbo death.

As the two million+ selling MK has shown this just isn't the case for a lot of people. This is even something Capcom has spoken about, there is a very significant portion of the fanbase who wants a story to go with the games and to have it grow and continue.

I stopped giving a shit about the SF canon when Super SF4 came out.

Whoa. I just realized something.

His teleport his is activation move. You can see the screen dark screen freeze with ink effect every time he does it.

Bison died at the end of Alpha 3, he just has some spare clone bodies, but has been using Shadaloo to find/create a new strong body (Seth) for himself.

Music is a great step up from that annoying SF4 shit.

Graphics look great.

Charlie looks a bit silly tho. I wish Ono would quit making the characters look so obnoxious.

Wow looks fantastic, graphics got a nice upgrade, trailer was dope as hell. Im just hoping the gameplay strays far away from SF4, Im sooo tired of that game. Cant get too hype yet cause Im still thinking the full game is gonna mid-late 2016.

OMG YES! Now let's get Abel too and see where that story line takes us.

I had already come to terms with the idea that Abel (who I mained pretty much throughout all of SFIV's iterations) wouldn't appear in the SFV since he isn't that popular and his playstyle not all that unique. But perhaps having a story tie in to someone like Nash (Abel's story line in SFIV is never resolved and heavily ties in to Nash) is strong enough that they would include Abel as a playbale character in SFV.

With Evil Charlie in the original release I wonder if we'll get Standard Charlie in a later iteration. We have Ryu and Evil Ryu in the same game, why the hell not?

Updated list for playable characters

1. Ryu
2. Chun Li
3. Charlie Nash
4. M. Bison

Rumored

5. Zen
6. Laura
7. Rachid
8. Newcomer

Yeah, we have 8 more returning characters to go if the rumor is right about only 16 characters roster.

Not entirely irrelevant, it can be used to give purpose to why and how moves, fighting styles, clothing changes, and personality changes happen with a character. Even if one does not personally care to get into the story, it is this lore and backing that gives the characters all their personality.

But yes, death shouldn't prevent a character from being playable in a fighter; now-a-days, it should just determine if a character is a "made for the next installment" story fighter, or someone added in as a non-canon bonus down the line. With the ability to update a game now, we shouldn't be afraid to age up characters either, or kill them in canon. Gameplay and Story can walk a line as close or as far as they wish, within the same product, over years of changes.

As far as a silly zombie version... eh. Bison has an army of killer bees he turned into slaves. He apparently jumps bodies in order to continue living. He LOVES messing with mortality and it's all part of his boss-worthy god-complex. Gill thought he WAS a god! SF has always had some supernatural stuff throughout it's creation (except maybe SF1?) So this isn't that far and away an idea.

Yeah, we have 8 more returning characters to go if the rumor is right about only 16 characters roster.
Humoring that rumor, I'd include these veterans:

  1. Ryu
  2. Ken
  3. Chun-Li
  4. Guile
  5. M. Bison
  6. Cammy
  7. Akuma
  8. Nash (Alpha’s protagonist)
  9. Sakura (incredibly popular/iconic Alpha woman)
  10. Alex (SFIII’s protagonist)
  11. Ibuki (incredibly popular/iconic SFIII woman)
  12. Juri (most popular SFIV newcomer)

There are a lot of popular Street Fighter characters, obviously, but I tried picking the most important ones.

Meanwhile, SF4, a much better and more successful tournament game than MK9, has 44 characters.

Like it was already mention, SF4 didn't start out with that huge roster. It began with 17 in the arcade release. which then became 25 in the console release, 35 in super, 39 in Arcade Edition, and finally 44 in Ultra.

As much as MK9's story mode was cool, it's not the reason the game sold what it did.

Every copy of it? No it's not.

Games like Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon also did around 2 million and those games did not sell on Tournament scene like MK9 did.

That is why I didn't list 9 Specifically but pointed out the Franchise as a whole constantly does 2 million or more no matter how "bad" it gets and a very large part of that is because of the story they have with characters like Sub Zero and Scorpion.
