New direct feed (but 1280x720) Final Fantasy XV screens from the demo, also Type-0 HD

I don't really get the backlash at the "battle system change". How has it really changed? We've never known what the old control scheme was like. You can still mash/time combos with X, the phantom swords are still there, magic will be there, etc.

Sure it might have changed a little, but so do most games' battle systems through years of development.

For all we know, the "original" protoypes battle systems might've been worse/boring. Actually, it probably was if they "changed" it!

Party switching? Manual weapon switching? Double jumps? I also can bet that magic won't be the same as the Versus stuff we saw, it will probably be more in line to the stuff we saw on the TGS demo.

I'm not saying the battle system now is bad (on the contrary, their approach in making the multiple weapons an actual "build-a-combo" kind of thing is pretty interesting), the co-op attacks are fantastic, and Gambits are always welcome. But, for better or for worse, the battle system is not the same.

Always nice to see people comparing between games due release in like 2 or 3 months and the one that will be in development for like another 21 or 22 months. ^_^

I think The Order has ruined contemporary game graphics for me. I look at these screens where before they would've blown my mind now all I can think is "Meh." Yes I realize they are entirely different scopes but to me FF games have always pushed the boundaries graphically and now that a new benchmark has been set these just come up short. All I can see now are the awful ground textures and weird plastic sheen on everything. Hype severely deflated. Here's to hoping we see a big jump between now and release.
This just dont make sense.. to me.

Things have. changed but it might be for the better. Getting rid of manual weapon changing might actually be better for the games combat system. More options is not inherently better game design. The system they have right now sounds better for the sword deck system to me. You have to be choose the right weapon for each slot instead of just picking weapons that just look strong.

Right, that's a shame indeed :(

I didn't know this was out now :/

I didn't know this was ever in.

Now I'm disappointed. Screw you for being right! :p

Read that for info on the battle system ;)

but but but a 2017 game should look better than a 2015 game

!!!
And people expecting this to look like The Order will have to keep on dreaming.

Actually, people shouldn't expect games to look like The Order for a looooong time. Unless they're making such a contained game divided into a bunch of small rooms and masked loadings again, which I doubt it.

The battle system we have now sound way better then weapon switching to me. If they had weapon switching I would have just loaded the deck with weapons with the best stats. Now you have to actually think about what weapon goes to each slot and then use them fully during battle.

I was 15 back then... Now I'm married. Still can't believe I'm going to play a demo for this game in less than a month. ;_;

So taking a character off that had little more than a design (which already changed) would cause a bigger backlash than removing the battle system of the game?

They needed to change the battle system to actually get this completed on a technical level. Changing/removing Stella is probably not as necessary in that same regard. Dropping/changing Stella is (unnecessarily) modifying Nomura's original narrative vision, which I think most fans definitely do not want to see.

Unless this whole Luna/Stella thing was the plan from the get-go, of course.

end of February 2015 now + 21 to 22 months is

wait you're right there's an equal chance of 2016 or 2017

somehow my coffee-addled brain was calculating Feb 2015 + 2 years + 1 or 2 months because 10 months is a year

Well the math is right lol but why do you say 21 or 22 months? I kinda doubt its gonna be that long. I think Fall 2016 at the latest.

Unless this whole Luna/Stella thing was the plan from the get-go, of course.

Knowing Nomura it totally could be. Also we never knew about the road trip aspect to such a degree when that was the plan all along.

But then it's the same old question. They changed the battle system to make the game doable in a decent time frame...
So wouldn't that mean that they would use all the concepts, designs and story that Nomura already made? That would save time, and changing that would mean having a lot more work as you would have to re-write the entire story (and cope with the backlash). So why would they do it?

I doubt they took Stella off.

Makes sense, but why the non-answers and secrecy?

To generate hype i guess?

A bit like every year an AC game leaks and they still wait for E3 to reveal it.

Honestly I think the exact opposite. The less we know about the game the less hype but more speculation. because if they come out confirming stuff left and right the hype will heighten even more. I think they are trying to control it at this point, until after Episode Duscae. Then I think we will have an information explosion. Especially story related, since we have next to nothing on the story, or really any characters other than Noctis and the bros.

Well maybe i'm speaking for myself, but speculating generates hype :P

Yeah I am different from you in that regard. Speculating calms my hype since it isn't definite and I don't want to guess too much ya know? But once stuff gets confirmed and I see it I get fucking hyped lol

Imagine producing a ton of art and not being able to show it to anyone for a decade. You know the day is coming when you can finally show everyone what you've worked on but the years just keep passing by.

But we literally saw just a couple of spells in old trailers, how different can it be?

And for all we know, double jumps(or evolved jumps) could still be in.

At E3 2013, Magic was focused on the ends of the swords that were embedded onto the Behemoth. There seemed to be a mechanic where you attach swords to the Behemoth and then conjure magic from them. Seemed kinda cool.

Now, it looks your basic spell casting. I hope it's different.

Aah, forgot that.
Couldn't it be both?
Maybe it was only for the Behemot, like on of those "set-pieces" skills? But regular spells (which i like more) are in as well.

Well that could easily still be in. I think it would be both honestly. We haven't seen magic since the E3 demo, so I doubt we will see anything about it until after the demo. Since it seems that we will be getting loads of new info after the demo drops.

New Famitsu scans. Nothing new in the screnshots, just different shots of the scene with Cidney and the party.

A few infos:
- Tabata guesses that there are currently ~400 people working on Final Fantasy XV ( inhouse and extern)
- Some people of the development team like the idea of implementing a battle arena in Final Fantasy XV like in FFVII
- Tabata has currently no plans for DLC but he usually likes the idea to expand a game with new content that improves its replayability
- They'll talk about minigames after Episode Duscae is out
- Spoiler of the demo's beginning:
The first scene of Episode Duscae is the 4 guys waking up in a tent

if this interpretation is correct, it would make magic use much more exiting. It could also be made much more powerful than in previous installments as you now have to satisfy a set of criteria (connecting swords) in order to use magic. Let's hope they put it back in ;)

All of this pleases me. Holy shit at over 400 people on the team.

TGS demo actually.

And magic in Versus days worked more like the stuff in KH (BBS specifically), where now it's an entire new thing. The only thing that's still the same is that magic was never using MP (even during Nomura days), and it's still that today.

My guess is that Magic in this game will be like the Ability gauge in Type-0 (fill it by attacking, and then spend with Magic).

You know what's the worst with this the order discussion.. Not the graphic tech..

Pics from the screenshot thread.

It screams 90's FF ten times more than anything SE did in the last 15 years.

How big is this relative to the size of Ubisoft, EA and Activision teams?

Puny (about half).

AC is known to have ~1000 people working on it internally and externally.
Destiny has ~700 internally and externally.
FFXV has ~400 internally and externally.

Yep, but it's still a big team (more than enough for one game) and the reason why Ubisoft teams are so big is because of the nature of the development of their franchises. When you release a huge Assassin's Creed game (or two) per year in addition to their other franchises, yeah, you're going to have a shitload of people working on them around the clock.

I don't see how this thoroughly Victorian imagery "screams 90's FF".

Not for the NES era, nor SNES or PS1....

It's a small team (relatively) and there's a lot of new people there.

That's interesting.

I must have missed the Victorian FF from the 90's then, because there's nothing there screaming FF, even the aesthetics of the airship (?) is different.

But then again, it might have been a joke about the game having towns, idk.

- Tabata said that they're aware of the youtube comments after the "FFVII Ps4 reveal" lol
- You won't be able to leave the road with the car. You'll need other forms of transportations such as Chocobo's for exploration.

(Again, thanks to GermanFFBlog)

Ehhh, that top screen is really steampunk-y, which was definitely a think back in the SNES entries (and a bit in the PS1 era). But that's where the similarities end.
Battle arena in FFVII? I don't quite recall....
You needed to complete it to get
Cloud's Omnislash limit

Someone deceived you man. Whatever you were playing, it wasn't Final Fantasy. Must have sold you a different game with an FF cover.

Pretty much what I was expecting. I doubt they would implement stuff for running over people.

I do wonder if that blocks out open areas (like the field around the road).
