Street Fighter V - Charlie Nash trailer; beta for all pre-orders in NA

Where's the 16 coming from? That's hard.

Ryu
Ken
Akuma
Chun
Blanka/Dhalsim/Guile
Nash
Karen?
Haggar
Alex
Yun
Juri
Bison
Gill/Urien
New
New
New

Assuming the new ones are all sort of weirdos to balance out the rest I have here. Charlie's basically a new character anyway.

1. Ryu
2. Ken
3. Akuma
4. Chun Li
5. Dhalsim
6. Guile
7. Sagat
8. Balrog
9. Cammy
10. Fei Long
11. Bison
12. Rose
13. New:Haggar
14. New:Charlie Nash.
15. New
16. New

DLC characters can come as they please...hopefully free to avoid splitting the base but knowing Capcom that's just a dream.

Stages, challenges and character outfits should be what's nickled-n-dimed.

So psyched Bison is back. Hopefully, he plays similarly to IV and not like Alpha (judge me, I do not care).

That being said, I'd love to see Birdie. The chain command throw was so fun.

"Psycho Shoon!... Psycho Shoon!

*Opponent jumps forward*

*Screen Flash* tshviviviv

(level 3)Psycho Crusha!!!

>:D

Really wished they would have moved Ryu forward. Didn't he train with Oro. He should have some new moves here and there. At least give him back the donkey kick.

The animations for this game, at an alpha stage, puts every other fighter in the dirt.

Yup. Street Fighter is king in animation, among other things :P

Lord the animations. I can't believe how God tier those animations are

Best looking current-gen animations, easily. They're the perfect balance of fluidity and impact.

You're goddamned right :)

But seriously, fuck that music.

I liked it, as well as the previous one. I have high hopes for this game's soundtrack based on those 2 songs.

I don't think Nash's inclusion excludes Guile, especially since their play styles are so different now.

It would be understandable if they left Guile for the next edition (DLC pack) of the game. I would rather get the game with 16 characters (+ akuma and boss for total of 18) in a year than wait another 6 months to get 24 characters or whatever.

16 is PLENTY! Heck, 12 is plenty as far as I'm concerned. It's not about quantity, it's about the depth and polish of each character. And remember, each character increases the number of potential match ups that need to be balanced exponentially. a 16 character game is not twice as hard to balance as an 8 character game.

8 character game = 7+6+5+...+1 = 28 unique matchups (I don't start from 8 because mirror matches obviously don't need to be balanced)

16 character game = 15+14+13+...+1 = 120 unique matchups. 4 times as many as an 8 character game.

24 character game = 23+22+...+1 = 276 unique matchups. 10 times as many as an 8 character game.

Balancing is hard and time-consuming. Therefore, it's a good idea to release a game with few characters, and build on that progressively.

I want to see special intros for certain matchups back too

Wow, I had that game and I still hadn't seen 4 or 5 of those. Thanks!

Why does everyone think there will only be 16 characters? Like where did this rumor start?

http://www.reddit.com/r/SF4/comments/2onqfz/street_fighter_v_ken_bogard_shares_some_rumours/

later corrected to...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=143302117&postcount=1076

I personally think when he says, "The number of characters in the starting roster will be between SFIII and SF IV" that Its gonna be between 19 to 25 (3S and vanilla Sf4). I dunno why people think the 16 is set in stone.

I don't meant to be smart aleck about it but can you point me out where did he said that it was Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike? All I see is SF3.

Also Vanilla Street Fighter 4 only have 17 characters if you are talking about arcade version.

Possibly being biased when I say this, but Oro seems like he would look so good in this game. His minimal garb, wrinkled skin, wonky fireballs etc just feel like they have potential with this particular engine. What we know of it anyway.

Probably biased.

Ryu with telekinesis... brb I think I'm gonna hurl

It looked more like strength training to me.

This could very well be before SF3 in the timeline, which means he wouldn't have met Oro yet.

It better not be. Tired of SF moving backwards to try and play it safe to cater to a non progressive fan base. Seeing as how Charlie looks like a completely different character now, I hope that's not the case anymore.

It's an optimistic assumption, whenever people say SF3 it's usually 3S, nobody talks about NG or 2I.

My point is that the video didn't mention 16 characters. Like I said before, I personally think that the starting roster will probably end up around 19-25 characters. It's too early for anyone to speculate, maybe we'll know more at GDC15 or the other upcoming events.

I see it as a bridge between the SF2 and SF3 storylines. The whole charlie forehead gem thing and being resurrected, It pretty much is Urien's G-Project, human body remake theory storyline.

God I hope this isnt the case im tired of seeing SF2 characters, SF3 character designs for life.

I'm also tired of these outdated SF2 designs. Sumo wrestler. Boxer. Beast. Simplistic characters with simplistic move sets that are hard to balance because they are so simple.

Casual players are already complaining that the game "looks like SF4".

If this game is filled with SF2 characters like SF4 was, then it will be very hard to argue with them.

SF3 characters are much more interesting, with a bit more depth/subtlety to their movesets and designs. And, a lot of people aren't familiar with them, so they are practically new. I think now is the time for some of them to return alongside brand new characters. The only people who would disagree are people holding out for their mains (who will probably play completely differently than they did in SF4, so you're wasting your time) and people who aren't aware of the main criticism SF5 has been facing so far in the more mainstream communities.

I could live with less SF2 characters. I'd prefer to have a few, but if push comes to shove, well, I'll probably be playing some CharlieStein anyway.

Can't stop watching the 60fps trailer...I WANTS IT SOOOO BAD MAN...

When Ken comes I'm gonna flip...I hope they make him fast and nimble again, and customized outfits would be nice. Always though Long-hair Alpha ken was the best.

Same old, same old. Capcom releases new characters, brings back some from Alpha, people dislike the majority, aka the majority flop and fall back to main the old staples of SF2 because they're simply good and likeable. Then, people start begging for character DLC that includes SF2 characters with a passion. Rinse and repeat.

What Capcom did with SFIV was right and they got a nice batch of new characters in - majority of which flopped popularity wise with some exceptions. The people always wants things, "new" shiny things, but they also often don't value what they have until it's taken away from them....

We know it will happen.

Some of us diehards are just ahead of the curve :)

Not feeling the stitches, but there will be DLC costumes so it's all good. Dat gameplay though. I was looking forward to Charlie but goddamn I didn't think it would be that good.

I would actually be slightly concerned if there are 19 selectable fighters in the game.

For balancing purposes, and insurance that they are investing a lot of time in each fighter, 16 would be better.

But I think the roster needs to go in a different direction a little like SF3 did. Not as extreme as that but to differentiate it with SF4 it needs a different feel.

My hopes for the 16 character roster:

1- Viper
2- Viper
3- Viper
4- Viper
5- Viper
6- Viper
7- Viper
8- Viper
9- Viper
10- Viper
11- Viper
12- Viper
13- Viper
14- Viper
15- Viper
16- Viper

We makin' Character lists?

We have: Ryu, Chun, Charlie, Bison
SF2: Ken, Cammy
SF3: Alex, Urien, Q, Hugo
SFA: Adon, Sakura, Mika/Karin
SF4: Juri, Abel/Viper

Then 2 Newcomers

I'm with you. We can fight the opposition together. I know Ryu and Ken have to be there or the internet would crash, but I'd even dump Chun Li if I could.

Id get rid of Chun Li too but she is basically the female face of SF so she's untouchable.

The only SF2 characters needed are Ryu, Chun, Bison, Akuma, Ken and Guile, (Cammy wouldnt be to bad either.)

Id personally cut Ken, Guile and Chun for newer characters but they are really popular/iconic and have story anchors.

I think Alex, Hugo, Urien, Dudley, Yun, Makoto, Ibuki, Q, Oro and Sean if they make him not a joke character should return.

I think alot of the sf3 cast should return and the story should take place after sf3 and be like a more advanced for of sf3 or at least have sf4 and sf3 have a baby.

Not going on rumor limitations

1. Ryu
2. Ken
3. Chun Li
4. Guile
5. Bison
6. Cammy
7. Alex
8. Dudley
9. Hugo
10. Yun
11. Urien
12. Makoto
13. Charlie
14. Sakura
15. Karin
16. C. Viper
17. Juri
18. Akuma
19. New Character
20. New Character
21. New Character
22. New Character
23. New Character
24. New Boss Character (Playable in the console version)
25. Oro ( Console Exclusive)
26. Q (Console Exclusive)
27. Ibuki (Console Exclusive)
28. Elena (Console Exclusive)
29. Yang (Console Exclusive)
30. Gen (Console Exclusive)

Tried to keep characters who could have good story threads.

fall back to main the old staples of SF2 because they're simply good and likeable. Then, people start begging for character DLC that includes SF2 characters with a passion. Rinse and repeat.

When did this ever happen? When did people ever have to demand SF2 character DLC? Most SF2 characters were already in vanilla SF4, and no one gives a crap about Dee Jay or Hawk.

What Capcom did with SFIV was right and they got a nice batch of new characters in - majority of which flopped popularity wise with some exceptions.

You know...we actually have, like, TANGIBLE evidence of character popularity. No need to make stuff up. Capcom did an official survey, remember?
http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2013/...-fighter-favorite-characters-popularity-poll/

Since everyone likes to toss around the number 16, take note that 7 of the top 16 characters do NOT come from SF2. Also note that 3S, Alpha, and new characters are well represented in the top of the list.

Here's another recent poll:
http://attackofthefanboy.com/news/ken-cammy-top-street-fighter-vs-wanted-character-list/

Only 3 characters from SF2 in this one.

The people always wants things, "new" shiny things, but they also often don't value what they have until it's taken away from them....

Your problem is you don't take the environment into account. The FGC environment in 2009 was totally different than the environment in 2015. In 2009 there hadn't been a numbered SF game in a decade. Therefore, SF4 had to serve as a reintroduction to the series, with classic characters returning.

In 2015, a new SF game JUST came out less than a year ago, with a patch that JUST came out in December. People are TIRED of SF4. Casuals are tired of it. Pro players are tired of it. If you release another SF4 in 2015, you will NOT get the same result that you got in 2009.

Wonder if they would ever bring back Ryu's stepping side kick from SFIII. Loved that move. Loved hitting a EX stepping side off the wall to a weak shoryuken just to piss people off.

I loved it when he had that, added much needed variety to the 3 classics he'd had across the iterations. He had it in SFxT as well.

What I really hope for V is that they improve the air game. If jumping could be variable as with KOF, you can put real pressure on opponents with jumps and not just on wakeup.

Even the short hop from the SFIII series would be welcome.

Otherwise we get a game with characters with super quick recovery after projectiles, super long invincibility on AA's and sad/high/slow jumping. And we wonder how come there's so much footsies in SF.

If Guile gets included, I hope that he..

* plays more like his SF2 self, not the SF4 incarnation
* has GUILE THEME with him
* and his military themed stage

leave his moveset alone.

Guile doesn't need any fancy new fight moves.
