Well, that's not really what I mean.
I think they were great from the beginning too.
But I have some problem with how they bring in new characters and... don't do anything with them.
Like in volume 3 or 4, the class president just suddenly appears and is a character even though I don't remember hearing about her ever before, and what's this? She confesses to the protagonist!? But... then it doesn't go any where. She immediately becomes a side character you don't see very much, and I kinda just get confused like, ok so why bring her in in the first place? Why have that confession scene?
It's not like I'm saying I like her and wanted to see more, because I don't, nor do I want it to be a manga where they keep introducing new girls vying for the protagonists interest to artificially keep it going. But... it just reads kind of poorly and doesn't seem well thought out.
Another point was when they introduce Kana. Now apparently this girl was the protagonists first love, so when she appears in the manga suddenly, I was thinking, well ok, maybe he still has feelings for her and this will make things awkward for Aikawa blah blah blah, but no. It's just a couple chapters of Maki and Aikawa reconciling Kana and what'sherface, and then again some side character.
It's not like I want crappy drama. Nor do I want some girl to show up claiming to be Maki's (non blood related) sister who is engaged to him. Also she is a dragon.
But it would be nice if they explored his relationship with Aikawa a bit more. One thing I really like is jealousy, but there is kind of none of that. Like it would be cool if maybe Maki, to convince himself he isn't interested in Aikawa because he is a dude, tries going out with some girl, but in the end still picks Aikawa. Or something.
I dunno, I'm not saying it was bad, just seemed kind of lacking.
