The colors of this photo will appear different to everyone. I think?

Didn't we have this same issue on NeoGAF when I chose blue as the self-post highlight color and a lot of people couldn't differentiate it against adjacent white posts?

It was blue and black for me on Facebook. On here, it was white and gold. I immediately went back to Facebook and it was blue and black still, but when I came here the dress was blue and black instead of the white and gold I saw before. Weird.

OK so I originally saw white and gold. After seeing many people saying it was black and blue I was convinced they were trolling. However I remembered that spinning shadow girl with her leg stuck out. I was able to switch between the direction I saw her spinning depending on where I looked and how I chose to perceive it. I decided to attempt the same with this dress.
It turns out it's pretty simple to go between the different colours. It's just a matter of perception. Are the bright areas hhighlights on a dark colour or are the dark areas shadow on a brighter colour. If you focus intently on one or the other before taking in the rest of the picture you should be able to perceive it either way.

So I can do this to switch between blue and white now, but I can't do this to switch between gold and black. I've never seen the black in that.

Your eyes and the the image processing part of your brain are failing to compensate for the overexposure in the picture. The camera didn't compensate for it either, as it captured the effect of the overexposure, hence the RGB values you're getting.
There is no failure involved, since the overexposure is not real! We see what's there, light blue and brown..

Many years from now when I sit my grandkids on my lap, and they ask me how the great war started, I shall point them to this thread.

Pale blue and black(ish) on calibrated monitors. Dress isn't anywhere close to white, and the "gold" would have to be a pretty damn dark and dirty gold to interpret that as gold. More like a dark neutral color reflecting a warm light.

I find it rather amazing that some people see the blue as a white.

I guess it's all down to how our brains interpret the lighting conditions in the image. If your brain thinks the bright yellow light is behind the dress then the side of the dress we see is in shadow and the brain automatically adjusts to this and sees a white dress in shadow, since the light is yellow the shade will be tinted blue. On the other hand if your brain thinks that the light is shining directly onto the dress then your brain will correct in the other direction and you see a blue dress that is overexposed by the bright yellow light.

Or maybe the blue/black people are just crazy, I dunno.

I cannot see anything other blue or brown. Stop asking about what it would look like without exposure or say things like your mind is failing to compensate for anything.

I wanna say the actual colour of the image.

I was far more "white and gold" then "blue and black" because I imagined the "blue" meant like sonic blue. Black to me means black.

No one here means "black" black. Or "white" white. Just no way.

I also want people who say gold to actually find another image with the same gold colour. Hold to a lot of people is bright and Super Sonic gold.

Just curious, has anyone went from Black and blue to white and gold?

Seems like it's only the white/gold group finally seeing the right colors.

LOL, you're right, it's blue and brown, obviously. The dress is black/blue, but the pic is blue/brown. Now calm down.

What the fuck is going on, I first saw it gold and white. I jumped to the last page then back to the first. THE FUCKING DRESS TURNED BLACK AND BLUE RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES.

The internet is a dumb place but I really can't tell if people seriously believe the colours are swapping. Can't wait to hear about this in a month from my parents.

This is how I imagine it looks under proper lighting:

I guess I'll just have to learn to accept that it's wrong.

Exactly. That is how I see the dress as being in proper lighting. If people want what "colours are the pixels in this picture" then you could say a sort of dark yellowy brown and a greyish pale blue.

I seem to go back and forth depending on the surrounding colors and my brain processing the colors.

Holy crap, i thought gold and white people were trolling. I saw black and blue on my laptop but i just checked the thread on my phone with low brightness.... Mindblown.gif

Holy shit GAF ahhhhhhh first I saw it white and gold (here and here) but then my friend sent me the image and now I see it blue and black. Halp!! I don't want to be burned with the rest of the witches, I am one of you :(

We could argue the tint of the black sections of the dress... because of the light they seem a bit brownish.

But the blue is so very clearly blue. Where do the white comments come from?

Because those of us with working eyes know that white can look light blue in the shade. Hence, we know its white and gold. Which it is.
