The colors of this photo will appear different to everyone. I think?

Do some people actually see it as dark blue and black as it looks in the store page? Because if so that's just fucked up. I mean I can see it as overexposed black and blue when I focus on the background but to see it as it actually is? No way man.

I asked the same thing lol. It's not super dark.

The white part now looks close to this for me now, maybe very slightly darker in spots.

If you're seeing the dress as shadowed white, what the fuck are you seeing this part as?:

White lighted with very bright yellow light.

Reminds me of this album cover. Doesn't have the same effect but it certainly has the same colors... still think it's a poor cover. Azure d'Or means "Blue To Gold"

It's been hours but I still can't wrap my head around the 'black'.

Even the darkest parts near the bottom are still clearly a golden brown colour. No where close to black.

I can't believe this makes such huge waves, heard it on the radio a minute ago.

CMYK values of black/grey are C=45, M=48, Y=76, K=51 in dark areas.
That's a spike in yellow and Cyan, Magenta, K are evenly weight out.

CMYK values of blue are C=56, M=44, Y=21, K=15 in dark areas.

Cyan and Magenta are dominating.

People have bad monitors/displays and/or interpret what constitutes as a definition of color differently.

Saw white and gold.

Read responses. Scrolled back up.

Saw blue and black.

What techno sorcery are you employing OP?!?

It's not dark like the actual dress but for me it isn't like this is some faint blue hue that might appear white under the right circumstances. It's a very definite and unmistakable baby blue hue, probably a touch darker than the sky in the middle of the day.

Another perfect example. Seriously guys it's not that hard to understand how people can see either or both color combinations. If you look at this drawing and still don't get it, I don't know what to tell you.

But there's still no black on the left girl? It's just slightly darker gold.

At first I though the white balance was really off so the white looked blueish. After seeing what ut really was I interpreted it as blue and black.

Yeah, the illusion even works in this drawing. I can see the color change from brown to black in the left dress.

But there's still no black on the left girl? It's just slightly darker gold.

But it looks black if you isolate her. That's the illusion.

Browsing on my phone. First perceived it as white gold. I was on my phone in a dark room. Changing the brightness did nothing.
I'm outside now in bright sunlight and it's blue black.

Help.

It's because everyone's eyes are different and lots of people don't understand that. The explanation in the OP should take care of it.

If you're seeing the dress as shadowed white, what the fuck are you seeing this part as?

the shadow thing happens because in the pic it looks like there's a bright light source behind the dress. The grey-blue color can be easily mistaken for shadows. As far as I can tell there's no black in this picture

my eyes are actually still trying to tell me it's white

I see the blue. Dammit Izudono I owe you a beer.

13 people still active in this thread haven't seen the light (rough count, just jotted names while I watched Netflix).

83% of conversions were from White Gold to Blue Black.

Almost all mentioned they "scrolled up"

Personally all I need to do is see the top half or the bottom half first.

If I stare at it long enough I see light blue and brown, as it should be.

I love this image.

I just saw this on tv and it was blue. Having saw this thread earlier and it was gold I came straight back to check and it was still gold.

Then I scrolled down, read some posts and then back to top and it was blue.

Fuck.

There's a clearly white item right there in exactly the same lighting conditions though!

Definitly White and gold.... then I scrolled down and saw the "EDIT: GLORIOUS BLUE/BLACK MOD POWER ABUSE DEMONSTRATING UNDENIABLE TRUTH FACTS" picture, and now I can only see it as blue+(slightly golden)black.

https://vine.co/v/O2rvPnlEzqi

Just found this vine that helps show the difference.

This explains how the original dress can look the way it does in the photo, but not how people see it differently.

Also the over exposure they are using is so strong it is not comparable.

Problem is, a lot of people who see it as Blue and Black will feel like they see it "correctly" because of the knowledge of the original dress. They will sadly miss out on the fact that it is an illusion and move on before seeing it.

Whereas I am sure White and Gold people spend more time trying to see Blue Black, which is probably why this thread has far more conversions from that direction than the other.

I saw white and gold firsr then I scrolled down to the actual pictures of the dress and when I scrolled back up I saw it black ans blue. So weird.

At first i saw white and gold but after i read some comments i scrolled back up and it was blue and gold.

I was shocked!!

Now i see it blue and black!

I'm really surprised, almost scared.

So GAF, I will attach the explanation below. TL DR, some of you will primarily see blue and black in this photo, and some will see white and gold. I personally see blue and black, while my girlfriend sees white and gold.

There is also a chance that I am full of shit, so see for yourself and compare results.

I think we can safely assume that everybody sees the same thing, unless you have a color blindness or something similar, it's just that people have problems naming colors correctly.

So how exactly did I see white and gold, and then blue and black few hours later? Same monitor, same angle, same brightness level. Did my eyes change during that period?

If you're seeing the dress as shadowed white, what the fuck are you seeing this part as?:

wok60r7.png
The area you circled is a white colour which is recieving direct, yellow tinted lighting from the window in the background. The dress is a white material which is facing away from and not recieving direct lighting from the background. It's semi silhouetted and recieving secoundary 'bounced' lighting from from whatever surfaces are facing it.

If I was at home right now I could recreate the lighting conditions in the scene in 3ds Max or Unreal Engine or something.

It's very overexposed, but still quite dark blue the way I see it. Going into Photoshop and increasing the exposure even more I see some of the gold, but in the OP picture it's pretty much all black.
