It was more than just "dismissing" it.

Just read the post you quoted and let me know how what he said applies to what you posted.

It was an answer to question during a Q&A session. Not marketing material.

Ah, I missed that one. But it provides a rational reason using their own product, rather than showing some doofus struggling with a large phone.

I'd say it's the worst. Made my S5 slow and contacts keeps crashing plus they completely messed up the music player lockscreen widget.

Did you Factory Reset? It's generally a given that you should Factory Reset when going up big increments in Android OS. My S5 has been with no problems since I did it.

I think the crashing has to do with the hardware or Samsung's iteration. You need to factory reset. Lockscreen music does suck now.

Oh man I will fight Lollipop with my bare teeth if it messes with the TouchWiz music player lockscreen. That thing is beautiful. Thanks for the heads up, I will avoid this update until they fix it.

I was pretty tempted by this because of the Gear VR, but that screen with that battery altogether seems like a big cockup. Let's wait for the benchmarks before I decide.

Wow they made an iPhone.....lol

No removable battery or SD card? Wtf

Please don't ruined the note line also.

Tbh the issue with removable battery and Micro SD cards can be solved. I used to be a die hard Micro SD and Removable battery fan and would never dream of purchasing a phone without those two.

Yet here is the solution.

Create a phone with
A) A large storage capacity as standard
B) A larger battery than any other.

Now lets look at my current smartphone, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7. The smartphone has a Micro SD card slot which is great to add to the 32GB memory. However the battery is non replaceable. And to me at the moment, that is 100% fine. The reason being because the battery is 4000mAh and the software is optimised to provide me with over 8 hours on screen time (on screen, not total time, bear in mind standard on screen time on many smartphones is under 4 hours).

That's great and has solved the solution of wanting or needing a removable battery. Where as the GS6 and a number of other phones (looking at you old HTC smartphones) come with super specs but only a 2550mAh battery or less. Sure they can be optimised to last a long time but no where near the Ascend Mate 7. If it was a non removable battery but a much higher capacity (such as with Sony/Motorola) then there really wouldn't be such a valid reason for the complaints.

Moving on to expandable storage. The solution is to include higher storage as standard. For example the Xiaomi Note Pro starts storage options at 64GB, not 16 or 32, but 64GB as the lowest option. And for the average consumer that is more than enough to negate the need for expandable storage. The less than $50 for the 128GB version is also a good option.

Now at the moment I'd still prefer a Micro SD card but the above phone from Xiaomi shows how they are able to cater to their audience, they don't include the Micro SD card slot but boost the minimum memory option and create a much higher storage option at a few bucks extra.

A good strategy.

With Samsung however the battery is poor and the storage is average. Especially as the OS will take up more than 5GB on its own.

I really hope this phone bombs. Now I can't think of any phone that offers everything I want. There's just absolutely no reason to not have a removable battery and micro SD support. The people that made those decisions need to be fired.

Agree 100%

I'll looking to upgrade from my s3. This phone wouldn't last half a day for me. I want a huge battery!!

I really don't understand why they want a "metal" phone when everyone put a case on it anyway. No one buys metal cases.

To lose waterproof, non-removable battery and SD card for a metal case??? I mean wtf how is that a good trade off?

How much space do you need on your phone? Or is it about price per gb on the phone vs buying in a micro-sd card? 32gb is pretty large when coming from devices of 8gb or 16gb (in my case).

And I used to think I cared about removable batteries which is why I never picked up the HTC One, but it's not like I own replacements to pop in all the time. I just travel with a usb and I'm good. Honestly, the only time a removable battery was ever useful was to do a hard reset.

No Micro SD slot is a bit of a shocker. Definitely wouldn't consider a phone without one. Now that apps are huge in size and phone cameras have something like 20MP sensors, having an expandable storage option is a must.

Also, is it just me or are these phone resolutions getting more and more ludicrous? I have a Note 2 with a 5.5 inch 720p screen and not once in 2.5 years have I ever felt like I needed a higher resolution (let alone one with 4 times the fucking pixels).

S6 32GB - €699
S6 64GB - €799
S6 128GB - €899

S6 Edge 32GB - €849
S6 Edge 64GB - €949
S6 Edge 128GB - €1049

Official euro pricing from Samsung

So using a direct conversion from euro to $ we have $780 for 32GB S6 and $950 for 32GB S6 Edge. Bear in mind direct conversion will obviously not be the real price in official USA store.
(Prices are off contract)

I went from a 720p Galaxy Nexus to a 1440p Note 4 and trust me man the difference is huge. That said, I wouldn't know if there's a huge difference between 1080p and 1440p. According to science there shouldn't be a noticeable difference.

That's... really fucking expensive.

Definitely going to have to read and watch the reviews on this one before deciding whether or not I should get it.

You shouldn't get a phone that has no microSD slot, small capacity battery and not waterproof.

Ah, that makes more sense haha.

If it's less than $250 for the 128gb on contract, then I might consider the replacement
I have something to sell you.

Currently at us cellular the Note 4(released in October) is 299 on contract.

The 32gb s6 will more than likely be 200 bucks. Edge 250.

64 250, edge 300.

128 350, Edge 400.

If the 128 is under 299 I'd eat crow.

Um why would the 64 be 250 and the 128 jump to 350?

hmmm no sd card no removable battery... why not just get a OPO at this point... or any other android phone that looks better?

Removing the key features that differentiated samsung from everyone else... idk.

It's not just about space, it's about convenience. If the phone dies, you could just pop out the SD card, get a replacement and have all of your data. It also allows you to easily switch it in between devices or if you upgrade.

When we have micro SD which is more than perfect for storage on phones, there's no excuse to not have it.

With those prices Samsung is going to learn the hard way that they aren't Apple and don't command the same kind of brand loyalty. What were they thinking? Is the Edge more expensive than the 6 Plus (looking at Apple Ireland store)?

PS. where's TekGryphon at

Just one thing to note. Yes those prices are expensive but retailers in Europe (and certainly in the UK) will price the phone slightly cheaper, also the price will depreciate over time where as Apple iPhone pricing is always the same price.

I'm not excusing Samsung here, just saying that what I've posted is official RRP and likely after the phone has come out the prices will go down a bit, then even further after a few months.

What did the S5 come out as in terms of pricing? Any idea?

Same as S6 in terms of RRP I believe. So 699 euro.

But like I said, price after release is usually a bit cheaper. If my memory is correct I think after day 1 the price was 50 euro cheaper.

If we look at trends, the S6 pricing in the USA should be around same as Europe. So maybe $600-700 for S6 32GB in USA off contract and $750-850 for S6 32GB EDGE off contract. (Before tax)

It's time for me to try Samsung again. Looks like I'm upgrading my phone this upcoming April from my iPhone 5S.

I'll be getting the S6 edge 32GB. Can't fucking wait!

Honestly, stuff like removable storage and batteries seems like something that will become more prevalent, not less.

The history of consumer electronics seems to say otherwise. Things tend to travel down a path towards "No User Serviceable Parts", and people seem to be OK with having all their "stuff" in the cloud.

Also, look at computers. In the old days you kept all your stuff on floppies. Then hard drives became affordable and big enough that you kept all your stuff internally.

I don't get the hate for the sd slot removed, especially with high onboard storage.

Guys, YOU CANT PUT GAMES OR APPS ON AN SD CARD ON ANDROID (unless you root, which I find little reason to do).

I have never once changed out a battery. Think about it, even your local bus and train has outlets these days. I have a spare micro usb charger in my car, and since it's not proprietary (like Apple), other people in my car can use it.

We get more storage, cut a feature we don't need (battery removable) and gain a vastly better design

Many people do root. Anyway like I said movies are a big thing. If I'm going on a long trip, I want to put a bunch of movies on it. What's even better is I can bring multiple SD cards and switch them out as I need to. 32GB is better than 16GB, but even that's still paltry when you look at the size of today's media. Music, Movies, and App sizes have not gone down over the years, only up.

I mean. If you're going to upgrade your iPhone to a wannabe iPhone then you might as well just get the iPhone 6.

If you're upgrading to an Android phone then there are far better options out there.
