the $180 tier is still available. Speaking of which i'm curious if the pebble KS backer value will go up or down after the apple thing.

It's pretty much the closest competitor to the apple watch on the platform and even then its selling to a different demographic.

Assuming you're speaking only about the super-plastic whatever sports bands, you're still absolutely insane. $50 minimum.

EDIT: I can't read. You're not insane, just making the most boring prediction ever. I predict an Edition version with a third party diamond studded band will cost no less than $20.

Band pricing is what I'm most interested in today.

I plan to buy the cheapest sport version (But I will pay the extra 50 if they make me for the dude size). But I definitely want at least an orange workout band, a brown leather band, and some sort of steel/metal band.

The idea that I can have one watch I can wear with any outfit is extremely appealing to me. Very interested to see how much they cost (or scared, in the case of the steel link band).

I actually hope they don't (sorry). Broadwell in the Macbook Air I can understand. Sticking Broadwell in the Pros when Skylake is around the corner would be very disappointing.
 
I'm far from being the biggest Apple fan, but I have absolutely no hype for the Watch whatsoever.

Definitely tuning in to see if I can be surprised though.

Claiming Beats is more of a product than a commodity doesn't address the notion of it being hugely successful and the perception among many that they are overpriced. You didn't even state whether you thought they were or were not and why. It is widely accepted by many that they are overpriced.



You can't say it didn't get priced properly to meet market demand if you acknowledge that the lack of marketing could be the factor. It's not as simple as a better product that is cheaper than the competition will succeed. There are plenty of factors that go beyond that element of it. Brand recognition and public perception are a real thing that can skewer the results of a better product at a lower price point.

If you are only talking about personal perception, I have addressed that. There is no need to discuss why people can think something, people have free will to believe things.

Marketing is factored into the pricing decisions of a company. The cheaper product was not cheap enough if you think more marketing was needed. The company probably couldn't afford to sell at the lower margin that more marketing entailed.

I felt that way about the iPad at first too so I'm less skeptical about the watch. It really does depend on what developers do with it anyways.

I find the sports version dope so I want one just for fashion purposes. But if it provides more utility on top of that, its more than welcome to!
 
for those not in the US, don't forget their clocks went forward yesterday, so the time will be a little different. Eg in the UK its a 5pm instead of the usual 6pm (our clocks don't change for another three weeks)


As for bands, I wouldn't worry too much about Apple pricing them stupidly - there will be a huge aftermarket for those things at much more reasonable prices.



edit: No live streaming video on windows at all, even if I install Safari? OSX, ios or apple TV only?

Live streaming video requires Safari 5.1.10 or later on OS X v10.6.8 or later; Safari on iOS 6.0 or later. Streaming via Apple TV requires second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 6.2 or late

I'm very sceptical, especially after reading that 3rd party App devs are basically locked out but people also thought that the iPad would be a nonsense product.

But the first generation was a nonsense product, and that's not being revisionist either.

Usually you can just use Safari, wouldn't be shocked if after the shittastic stream last time out, they're trying to limit it further.

The actual video link will probably be available though and just able to plug into VLC.

Well the watch is useless unless you have iOS and they aren't going to block it on their other formats.

Totally agree. Only thing keeping it hooked up to my TV is Airplay.

Wow, even worse, the last version of Safari released for Windows was 5.1.7, the stream requires 5.1.10, so it's like they just did that to keep Windows people away, not for any new features in Safari 6 or 5.2 or anything.

Apple is insane, why would they conciously limit who they are advertising to?

The Watch, more than any Apple device before it, is intended for someone who is already invested in the Apple ecosystem. If you don't own a device that can watch (!) this stream then they probably don't care about you.

Actively taking an effort to keep Windows users away is much more than just not caring, it means they spent money to make it hard for Windows users to watch the stream. And I'm sure I'm not alone in owning an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air but wanting to use my big PC monitor to watch the stream.
 
Very excited for this. Not because I plan on buying anything any time soon, but because I'm interested in seeing the potential of smartwatches. Hopefully they deliver.
