They showed nothing new today. All the stuff they went over was shown at the reveal. Prices are ridiculous. I still think the sport edition is the only one that sells well

I'm not saying that $10k is out of price range for expensive watches. It isn't. It's absurd for a first gen electronic product that will likely be updated and expanded upon in future iterations leaving your device eventually abandoned and in the dust. For $10k.

Or you could just sell it.

Still in for the Sport. I don't care if people can buy a version made out of Kim K's dried poop.

At the rate apple iterates on their products and how the first gen always looks like a 1992 nokia phone after 2 years, why the hell anyone would buy an upper end version of this i just...cant understand.

Seems like a terribly short sighted investment

Pricing seems cool. Particularly interested in the black steel price. Assuming the 549 price is the normal mirror one.

I'll probably end up with the space grey 38mm sport. But would consider the black steel if it's 549.

This really isn't remotely out of the ordinary for mid-upper range watches.

you're talking to people who usually buy $70 swatches and $100 FOSSIL watches.
if any watch at all.

i wouldnt spend multiple thousand dollars on a watch / a piece of jewellery either, but i know people who do, and i don't think they're crazy.

EXACTLY. This watch will be completely outdated and antiquated shortly. My JLC will not.

My biggest peeve is the cock tease with Apple TV. "Hey here's the Apple TV! We got HBO on it! Only $99? Now it's only $69! But it's not upgraded in any way haha ok thanks moving on."

Everyone's crying at the prices, but the upper tier watches are straight up status symbols, nothing more. And they will sell.

Yep. By this point, Apple has to think it's so hilarious how, after every event, they're pronounced doomed.

The Watch will sell. And honestly, it may take a few years to get it right. But, since Jobs came back, they've been very smart about thinking more long-term than being quarterly results focused. (Though they've obviously had great quarterly results, too.)

$10k is crazy high even in the boutique watch world. Wow.

Not even.

Blancpain Le Brassus-Tourbillon, $3m

10k i can understand if it was able to be upgraded or you could swap it out with a mechanical movement but for a watch that will undoubtedly be obsolete in a years time wow.

I don't think I've ever wanted anything as much as I want the Apple Watch to bankrupt Apple.

A $10,000 watch that will only be state of the art for 2 years max, because it's encased in gold? The gall of that.

That said the advert music was bangin'.

People saying 10,000 is normal in watch world is crazy. You actually think you will keep this 10,000 Apple Watch for more than 5 years vs the other 10,000 watches which go on for GENERATIONS? its a non-starter price for anyone who thinks clearly. What will they do next year when Gen 2 launches, pay 10,000 again?

In This Thread: People who have only ever bought a Timex.

Watches as a fashion accessory are really, really expensive. That's what Apple's banking on.

Stainless steel really can't account for the price increase. I guess subjective looks and designs are a hell lot more valuable.

$10k for a watch is one thing, but $10k for a watch that will inevitably have a second generation edition is another.

Yeah, if you buy a watch for 10k, it's going to be one you own for the rest of your life and maybe one day give it to your children or whatever.

This thing is going to be out of date within a year.

If you were buying a real watch for $10k+ I could probably understand but this thing is going to be worthless in a 2 years.

The prices aren't bad in terms of actual watch prices. I paid $400-500 for a Tissot and I consider that a low-end watch. It's the fact that it's a depreciating piece of technology that makes the price too hard to stomach.
