It's bumming me out that this thing is going to sell so well.
Why, are you short Apple stock or something?

Watches as a fashion accessory are really, really expensive. That's what Apple's banking on.
can you put a stainless band on a aluminum body?
wow, crazy that apple is forcing everyone to buy a ten thousand dollar watch.
Nice watches under 10k will last you decades even. All you people saying "Nice watches cost well more than $10,000, this shouldn't surprising."
That's bullshit. There are cars that cost $150,000. We're all well aware of that. It's a terrible analogy.
Everyone losing their shit over the 10K edition.
Calm down, this doesn't concern you.
The people that would seriously consider that option have the money to not care about how long it lasts.
Some of the obscenely rich are also "stupid as hell"I agree the Gold edition is stupid as hell. Fine by me if people waste their money on it.
I'm also ignoring it and focusing on the steel and sport.
10k i can understand if it was able to be upgraded or you could swap it out with a mechanical movement but for a watch that will undoubtedly be obsolete in a years time wow.
Yes, I have. There's a difference between a 10k Rolex and a 10k gen 1 smartwatch that doesn't even look that good from a manufacturer that doesn't have a history with watches.
Watches from the likes of Vacheron, Jaeger, Omega, Rolex, etc. are intricate pieces of engineering that can be kept, maintained and passed on.
What happens when the battery cells on this 10k watch go bad or the newer model comes out and the OS doesn't support the older models? It's a expensive paper weight at that point.

Can you not swap the guts of these things between gens?

but neither does a $50,000 watch have a thousand times as intricate internal guts as a $50 casio.
price has almost nothing to do with guts.

looking at this from a tech perspective 10k is ridiculous. Looking at this from a luxury watch perspective, 10k is nothing compared other watches I've seen before.
Tragedy struck Switzerland today as many skilled watchmakers suddenly died from laughter.
a 10,000 Rolex will be on your wrist for decades in normal cases, its like a part of life. An Apple watch will be updated every few years. traditional watches at 10K are passed down generations. will this be? NO
The Edition is a marketing ploy to get on a Hollywood red carpet, it's not a consumer product.
But comparing Apple watches to regular jewelry watches is stupid because it's really a dying trend. The watch is really aimed at Silicon Valley types who really don't give a shit about jewelry and are there for the technology. I think it's interesting Apple is trying to merge the two by using its luxury-ish brand name but I feel they've kinda missed the mark with the core audience in pursuit of that.
I think most people understand the target, but Apple is not one of those companies I'm sorry. I like Apple, don't get me wrong, but they do not have the prestige of a high quality watch manufacturer. They've overshot imo, but who knows, there's a lot of people with money to burn in the world.
Yep. I think Apple Watch is Apple's first costly mistake ever. I don't see a market for $350/$400 "active" watches when FitBit, Garmin, and Microsoft Band do it better. I don't see a market for $500-$1000 watches when the Moto 360 does an excellent job, and the Pebble does as well. I don't see a market for a $10,000 limited edition watch.
It will no doubt sell, but there's no way it captures an entire market, or a large chunk of it, like Apple phones and laptops do.
Are they going to die again when this sells out it's first day, and legitimizes the entire movement?
How many times do we have to see sub-par Apple products selling gangbusters before we realize that the quality of what's being sold doesn't matter?
Pebble watches look like a toy. Don't know why someone would buy them.
Everyone saying OMG 10,000 DOLLARS have never looked at watch prices from some of the best manufacturers.
I dont get the "$10,000 isnt crazy in the watch world" argument.
Those watches are amazing time pieces you can keep for years.
This thing is gonna be outdated as shit in two years, itll lose its value SO FAST.
Let's use one of the arguments made in this post as a guideline. Why would you pay 10,000 for a Rolex when your phone tells time? Why spend money on a watch that isn't upgradeable? A pebble smart watch tells time as well so save your money.
