Bloodborne: Impressions After 40 Hours (EDGE)

6 Weapons makes no sense. We've seen more than that from previews

Double Blades
Hammer/sword
Saw
Staff/whip
Axe/longaxe
Gun/rapier
Scythe/sword

That's 7 we know of. Unless that's EVERYTHING.

A great sword was also confirmed as well, so that's 16 different weapons confirmed so far.

They didn't finish the game & they didn't find all the secret weapons, I'm 100% positive that there will be at least 10 (20 with transformations) weapons in the game, we already have 8 (16) confirmed, there will be at least one "legendary" weapon, & at least one hidden weapon, so that's 10 (20) weapons. Although if I were to guess it would be around ~13 (26) with three more weapons (a Katana, a Mace, & a Club).

4/10 - lacked the best weapon in Souls game. Broken Sword.

Bloodborne |OT| Are we sure is not Dark Souls 3?

perfect

this looks awesome

Will there ever be a gif of a game as incredible as this?

Bloodborne already takes gaming gif of the generation.

Agreed! Look at how he shifts his weight with each hit, his foot stance between hits. How he puts his entire body into the hammer slam. Ive never seen animations in a game this good!

Exactly, we don't know the context of what they mean. Perhaps its 6 new weapons on top of what they already knew. And each weapon transforms making like a couple dozen different possibilities.

Also, moonlight greatsword

They also said the merchant was selling weapons that they weren't interested in buying. There's clearly more than 6 weapon types here.

This to me is the first MUST have current gen console game (PS4,XB1 and WIIU). The WiiU had a few come close (Smash, MK8, Bayo 2) but in the end I didn't feel like any of the were must own. There are some on the horizon like Zelda, UC4, maybe the next Gears etc. But to me this is the big one. I really hope my expectations for this game aren't set to too high, but saying I'm hyped would be a massive understatement.

I imagine since the chalice dungeon is gonna be part of the day-1 patch, that some funky/hilarious stuff are going to be generated.

When has Miyazaki ever let us down? Never ;)

This this this.

I never really got into Demons Souls, loved Dark Souls but wished it was much more responsive, and am literally gagging for bloodborne.

This is still the greatest gif I've ever seen of a game. Every time I see it I get hyped. The animation, the lighting, the atmosphere. It's just perfect.

The way the weapon transformation occurs is so fucking slick.

that gif does look amazing and I'm hyped as can bee, but I'm pretty sure this video is a bull shot. I think it's benefiting from some extra post processing power.

I'm in agreement that the combat system changes and weapon designs justify why there may be lesser amounts of weapons. Mid combo transforming, regain system, dual wielding, and all that definitively make it a different scene then the traditional Souls engagement. I see no reason to be concerned right now.

However, I am a Souls fashonista. I want to have a plethora of outfits that range from horrifying to SSS Stylish. I hope there's variety there.

"If you thought From Software was going soft, Hidetaka Miyazaki is about to put you brutally back in your place. And if you've been watching this generation from the sidelines, unmoved by the remasters and rush jobs while you wait for the first true essential to arrive, now's the time. As if there was ever any doubt, Miyazaki and his team have done it all over again."

That's all I need to know

Not that it would have mattered, I had my copy of Bloodborne preordered and paid in full months ago

What I really hope from the combat system is that there are neat little execution tricks that I can practice and specialize in like the ravioli step in Dark Souls (i.e. backstep > timed direction input in the opposite direction > instant forward-stepping backstep attack), and the animation cancels in Dark Souls II (i.e. continually backstep canceling the ultra great swords' backstep-R1's to dance around and bait rolls). I find the strictness and precision required for these techniques exhilarating and feel they've done well to draw me away from my only true video game addiction: fighting games.

This sounds super concerning. I'm someone who loves the sheer variety of weapons and playstyles the other souls games offered, combat is basically half the reason I like this series. It was also great how almost every weapon was viable in one way or another, so it wasn't just quantity. but quality as well. I hope they just missed quite a few weapons.

This. I'm actually pretty surprised so many people are dismissing Soul's wonderful array of weapons as garbage just because there is a new game out. Looking just at greatswords for DS2 you can choose between the Defender greatsword, Ruler's sword, Claymore, Watcher greatsword and Bluemoon greatsword all of which play very differently. And that's just one weapon class.

The low weapon count seems nice to me, hopefully they're all useful and serve a role.

I'd rather have that than hundreds of weapons go unused like in the other games.
I dunno I was pretty into pvp in dark souls 2 and sure some weapons are useless and some are popular but you definitely saw a big variety and could have a lot of fun with creative and novelty builds.

I'm still frothing at the mouth in anticipation but if the number of weapons is as low as this suggests that would be a little disappointing to me.

It certainly is for me; first really MUST HAVE title :P

Awesome, the whole world is interconnected and they're using shortcuts back to the checkpoints instead of bonfire spam? This alone sounds like FROM Software got all the time and resources they needed from Sony.

edit: Lol at the condense weaponry complaining. Oh no guys, Ocarina of Time only has four weapons! D:

This will be my main. All the other weapons can suck a fuck
until I inevitably get bored after 20+ hours and switch to Kirk hammer

Suck a fuck??? Lol

After reading this thread and reading every thread on /v/ I honestly don't know what's worse between the concern trolls, PC elitist, and the stans

I'll be concerned if the game comes out and there are like 10 weapons total. Until then it's speculation in my opinion. The reviewer could have missed a ton of stuff, they could be playing a build that doesn't have all the drops, etc.
