Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

I'm now convinced by the game but I'm not interested in playing it with the controller, so what are my realistic options for PS4?

Considering I've been using a DFGT with a Wheelstandpro (not great but is good enough to me) is the T100/T80 a completely worthless investment or should I look more on the T300 Ferrari GTE vs T300 RS range? Is the difference between both T300 versions just the visual aspect and PS specific buttons?

Is the T100 and both T300 compatible with the Wheel Stand Pro that I already have? Nothing on the horizon that could fill the gap left open by the DFGT (medium quality with good price)?

Thanks for the help.

I am pretty happy with my T80 DC Edition. It is quite tighten even though the lack of FFB.

Its not horrible here, but its great we can turn it off still.

I have no idea what its doing in a sim racer, though.
It's there as a photographic effect for screenshots and others so it makes sense I do believe it's not on by default (like you have to use a command or something to turn it on). Not totally sure as I haven't been able to test the game for a while. Super excited that the release is just around the corner though.

Two quick questions:

1. Is the "post-processing filters" the way to turn off chromatic aberration, or is there another way?

2. Once I choose the amateur / pro tailoring ingame, is there any way to "retailor" with a different level?
- No clue, have not seen it on my version, thought Ed added it with one of the tools
- It is just a quick selection option, you can tailor it in the (I think it is called) "Gameplay" option

Another delay.

http://www.wmdportal.com/projectnews/project-cars-release-date-moves-to-may-2015/

Slightly Mad Studios and BANDAI NAMCO Games Europe S.A.S today announced that Project CARS will be available for PlayStation®4, Xbox One and PC mid-May 2015.

The shift of the release date is due to the team’s continued dedication to polishing the game, players can look forward to some additional free content as compensation for this short delay.

“Despite our long heritage and pedigree in making critically-acclaimed racing games, Project CARS is by far the grandest and most intricately detailed of them all. Despite therefore the game being 99.9% complete, the remaining 0.1% attending to small issues and bugs has been tricky to anticipate. We’re absolutely dedicated to delivering a ground-breaking experience and by targeting mid-May fans can be assured that’s what they’ll receive” said Ian Bell, Head of Studio at Slightly Mad Studios.

“Again, we want to thank our fans for their support and patience on this matter. There’s a high expectancy from racing fans around the world that Project CARS is going to be an exciting new contender in the simulation racing space and we firmly believe gamers deserve it to be in its most complete and polished state when they come to play it on day one. And since the gaming community is our primary focus and has always been at the heart of the project during development, we would like to offer some free content to all players as compensation for this short delay and as acknowledgement of how grateful we are. This gift, that we’re sure is going to excite fans, will be available from day one and revealed shortly. Keep an eye on our website for more info.”

Project CARS will be coming to the Playstation 4, Xbox One & PC, starting mid-May.

Another delay, but I honestly don't mind since I'll be busy with the DC Lamborghini Expansion. I do worry that they're starting to lose the "hype" mindshare they once had.

Hopefully the delay means they will have Indy 500 and Le Mans content ready... after all, if you are releasing in may, you might as well capitalize on those licenses...

Also, someone should clarify the leaderbords situation for consoles. I was anticipating doing hot laps with different cars in Nurburgring... but if the leaderboards are only for the fastest time overall that means it´s only a leaderboard for the Formula 1 car.

This would be incredibly stupid and would take away a lot of the enjoyment of the game for us that can´t have a PC capable of running this game.

Bwahahaha.

Sorry bro. That timing was just too shitty.
Haha, I was actually going to post that I'm not quite sure if I'll still prefer it over GTA V since I've played well over 100 hrs of the development build, but I guess that deserved that (I'm sure my team's also happy since we do enough work in developing our own game).

Correct. It's not on by default there are some WIP post effects that can be turned off and on, these are off by default. Personally I like the look of them but I know they are not for everyone.

Cheers

Did anyone else that signed up as a kickstarter get a email about your free copy of the game?

Apparently, they won't be giving you a platform preference now and it will be strictly the PC version that you will receive. They just sent me my Steam Key for it and the game is currently downloading. Not sure what is really going on being that they just said there was a delay, but just my key for the game and am downloading it.

Sick of the delays now. This is turning into vapourware along the lines of GT.

Coding teams will know how long something takes months in advance. As soon as you know then you can multiply that number by 1.5/2.0.

Why wasn't this method employed here? It's damaging to the game and to their reputation.

Jokez.

How is something that we, the community, have access to and that is in development of some kind every day vaporware?

Honestly, the delay means that my decision years ago to not back the game and get into the development of the game and play it was TERRIBLE

I am honestly really looking forward to this game, and the fact I am going to have to wait longer is gutting me. I even got my first wheel to play this game. I completely prepared to play, except there is no game to play.

People guessing that the delay can go into November, ugh.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST BULLSHIT IN THE HISTORY OF BULLSHITS.

IT IS BULLSHIT OF ALL BULLSHITS.

BLATANT BULLSHITTING AND LYING AND DECEVING.

I AM SO DAMN ANGRY OVER THIS.

FUCK THAT SHIT FOREVER.

I can't voice the complexity of my dissapointment and bitter over this.

Cheap shit decision. FUCK THE WMD. What bunch of liers and decievers.

You can get a refund and buy the game with that money.

You can get a refund and buy the game with that money.

No Pepto, that is NOT THE POINT.

They lied to us. All of us. First they seriously undermind our chances for the extreme profit by 2013 delay and than cancelling the PS3/X360 versions for the install base of +110M consoles. Okay.

Then they signed a deal wit publisher with terms they never disclosed with all of us. Okay.

And now I can't choose the version of the game because *reasons*. Bullshit. Namco don't want to loose any money and they are spilling their invesment over us. Fuck that shit.

I am so disspointed. I fell in love with pCARS project since day one, I supported it with Senior Package for years, I supported it via my own community for years and brought many of my friends and community members to support it, I made interviews and promoted the game in the media I work for and I am avid fan of the SMS's work for years.

But this is another level of bullshiterry. I am beyond dissapointed.

Kickstarter? :D People who gave money for pCARS are not backers, they are investors.

Two smallest tiers got Steam beta access and will get price reduction for full game, but anyone who paid for 45$ or more got beta access and full game and will get PIECE OF THE PROFITS. Everyone needs to submit their paypal address in forum settings, so that dev team can send investors their cut.

DieH@rd explained it pretty well 3 posts above. By being unable to meet their deadlines and passing the opportunity of releasing on last gen consoles they greatly reduced the (total) sales potential.

I don't believe that there would be much sales on x360/ps3. There would be some, but then again, the devs increased our share of the prize from nextgen versions.

While I am certainly not saying there is no reason to be upset... consider that the 2013 release was NEVER going to happen. The game was not even close to being a complete state before or around that period. There were many indications of this. Then look game

The PS4 and XBO are selling extremely well and while the (potential) initial pay off may be less, SMS is still likely to make strong sales given the rapidly increasing install base of the PS4/XBO.

The not letting you choose which version... now that is some shit. I get it, but it sucks. Unless there is some terms conflict with Sony and MS that changed since last gen... then yeah... it sucks.

Well I was picking up on the '2013' in particular. No doubt the PCARS of today would have blown people away in 2013, but the game I played in 2013 was a mess, and I dread to think how much of a bigger mess it would've been on last gen hardware. This 'extreme profit' could surely have only been fulfilled if it was a well-received, well-reviewed game? I don't think it would've been either of those things in 2013.

Sorry, it has been such a long time when I made my original investment and now that you said what you said I am remembering that it was not a kickstarter. I invested pretty good into the game, I guess I need to go read up on all the benefits that I am entitled too when the game comes out.

Yeah, late gen racing games didn't do too hot. This should do well on the ps4 alone since its starved for racing games.

As I said above, I'm bummed there's no console discounts or digital codes. I don't have a PC and still backed this as a member for a ps4 release. But so it goes. Honestly I'd be satisfied if NA could at least get a chance to get the preorder DLC/LE, or that'll be more money out of pocket to play what others can for free, which we should be able to as well.

I guess we could get a refund amar....
Or offer a steam key to others I suppose.

It'll be interesting to see the reaction of the Wii U backers by this.

And as for the delay, despite the risk of running against Fm6, just delay it till fall, or spring next year. I'm not even being facetious. It's clear there are things to iron out yet, and I know planned features are getting cut, just take the time and sort it out. It'll be a better game for it.

Or run the risk/trials that Evo just went through by having to patch the bejesus out of a game not quite ready.

It is a bit sad though, I've been looking forward to this since they broke with EA after Shift 2 and the idea from Ian was thrown around. That's what, almost 4 years ago now?

Edit- Don't get me wrong, still really excited for this title. It's been my most anticipated racer in years.

Would buying a backers' steam key be against the TOS/NDA or whatever it is called?

I would love to find a way to buy this game early, as the delays are killing me as I expressed earlier.

Surprised by your reaction. Was it not stated it's the PC version you receive? I'm sure it was. Also it was a F2P PC game day one which turned into a boxed product and if I recall PC was due first still deep into the project, consoles release was later, you receive the PC version. I always understood it as the PC game is what you get, what you input on and day one was all about it being a PC game, bringing production value to a PC sim. The console thing turned out to be more incentive for some to join probably throughout 2012 and get more sales, not choose the console version. I joined in 2011, left on my own accord in 2013 on very good terms with the people at SMS. They acted professional and courteous.

That's not how I understood it at all. Why would any console only person (WiiU included) fund this if there was no incentive on platform option, aside from the possible returns? Pay 35-100 or more bucks for it just to get made, then pay 63 bucks more plus 10 bucks or whatever for the preorder DLC on your console to play it? They've always included some talk of discount or free version option for members, regardless of platform.

Now I understand there's issues with XBL or PSN digital codes and discounts, and the Steam PC only option isn't really surprising, but I can understand some folks being upset by the decision.

Edit- for the record, I joined at the start too, even without PC, just to see this get ported to consoles, so I know I'm in the minority. And I'll still buy the full game and the darn pre-order DLC after the fact since it's not being offered here, I'm just thrilled a game like this can be made to give some competition to the big 2, but I still understand the sting senior members or managers might feel for lack of choice in platform.

I had no idea that this was a thing. That is seriously awesome. My biggest complaint with Kickstarter projects, and why I don't support them, is that they are basically just investments without shares, and that is bullshit IMO. If more projects included profit sharing I would be more supportive of Kickstarer, and honestly that makes me want to buy the game more.

How is something that we, the community, have access to and that is in development of some kind every day vaporware?

This is what I don't quite understand.

Surely the game is (by now) in a marketable condition?, what exactly can they do in a few weeks to make it more marketable?

Why not just release it and do the spit and polish via patches?

Is it the development team that are holding up the release, or the publishers?, are they worried about doing a "Driveclub"?.

Just seems a bit odd to keep pushing the release back by a few weeks, if it's really not in a condition to be released, do it properly and delay it by enough so that they can get it right, continually delays just bring a sense of unease about it all.

Speaking off the record here, I was sad to see you leave the project. Always loved your work mate.

All the best,

Well returns was a big draw and also a big thing was it being a community assisted racer. People joined who didn't have a PC to help support a racing game which had input from gamers and others wanted to provide input without owning a PC.

Wowzers. As an outsider I don't fully understand all the complexities of the deal but it must be something pretty serious to give rise to this kind of reaction from you, Amar. You are normally such a calm, considered and rational poster.

I always feared that there would be trouble ahead in some form or another for investors. From day one the whole thing seemed a little... vague. I don't know, maybe things were explained in more detail when you signed up (I didn't, and have regretted it ever since) but I always suspected there might be fallout somewhere down the line.

Regarding the recent delays, I'm ambivalent I guess. I don't own a PS4, Bone, or 'proper' gaming PC but I'll be building one for pCARS, probably when VR is a finalised consumer option. The delays therefore don't personally mean that much to me, but I do want to see the game out there in the wild for everyone else to enjoy. As always though, if delays mean a better final product then I'm totally on board with that decision.

It seems as though some devs are now gun shy about releasing their games after the Driveclub, AC:Unity, Halo: MCC fiascos of last year and I don't have a problem with that at all.

I hope more devs take the time to release their games as bug free and feature complete as reasonably possible.

Same with Witcher 3 and GTA V PC, both games have seen multiple delays but if it means we'll get a better game that we can actually play without any major bugs then I'm all for it.

I'd say its more the platform holders are being overly cautious when it comes to approvals. Once bitten twice shy and all that! Hopefully this extra caution leads to better games landing on the shelves first time rather than having to be patched into a working state once they've already been sold to consumers.
The Driveclub debacle must have cost Sony not only sales but also a lot of bad press which continues with the whole PS+ version ambiguity, and MS won't have fared much better with the Halo issues.

better to delay than release a half arsed game.

majority have moaned about BF4 and Driveclub being released when half finished, their reputation was then questioned,

If the game really is currently "half arsed" an extra month isn't going to make much difference to that.

I was going to buy this day 1 but these delays have given me a moments pause. A one month delay to tighten things up was fine but now its a two month delay. Which to me seems like they either didn't think the issues were as big as they were or they don't know how to properly gauge their work output. It makes me feel like they are putting on bandages rather then fixing whatever the issues are. Could be nothing more than optimization but its not a good look.
