Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I installed the HBFS-30-G2 buttons in my HRAP4 last night and I've now had several hours of quality time with them:

- Silent operation (Red microswitches) without feeling mushy
- Quick actuation and fast response/return (should be good for shooters, I'll try Raiden IV in a bit)
- No squeaking / no break-in required
- Easy installation, not too tight (at least in the HRAP4, I verified I could remove the buttons without too much trouble)

I love these buttons! I already have a second set on order and I'm going to be putting them in both VLXes! I like the smoke color, I think they'll go well with the VLX Kuro, and I've ordered some 24mm HBFS-G1 buttons to replace option/start as well.

Sorry for the late replies. Europe finally got approved and we will be shipping/selling sticks there shortly, I don't have an exact date though but they will be widely available soon.

Anyway, Is this announcement teases new Arcade stick model from Madcatz? or Will they make previous model with skin change only?

Agreed. In the pics it looks black but in the photos it looks brown to me. I will be pretty pissed if the sticks are not black. Maybe I need to email arcadeshock for clarification.
 
Amazon UK have just shipped my Kai, so it's going to arrive for release day. I've been worried it was going to be delayed or cancelled, but no, it's coming. Excitement!

Those are striking. I can see myself being obsessive about getting those rims lined up. Are those the same type of switches used in keyboards?

That's pretty awesome. How difficult was the process? And did you document any of it for us n00bs.

Fair enough. It was just funny seeing that buttons were expensive but were going to get a Kraylix. I'm really debating whether to swap out the buttons and stick on my Hori. I mean, I do have a PS3 TE that's currently doing nothing, but I hate the process of swapping.

Yep, these are Cherry MX Red switches, which are linear and silent. I also have a set of MX Blue switches on the way, which have a distinct "click" at their actuation point. The switches are interchangeable, so you can actually swap them out to see what you prefer. I will say that I was surprised by how good the Red switches feel and now I'm not sure I'll actually use the Blue switches, but I will at least give them a try.

It's dead simple :)

1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws holding the bottom plate. There should be six of these, including one under a "this will void your warranty sticker"
2. Remove the bottom plate and set it aside
3. Push the old Kuro buttons out through the top panel one at a time. They are snap-ins that have two retention clips on either side. You can either squeeze these in with your fingers or (easier) push them in with the blade of a flat-head screwdriver.
4. The buttons are wired with quick disconnects, so just pull the two connectors off of a button and then place them on the new replacement button. I recommend doing this one button at a time so there's no confusion as to which set of wires goes where. :)
5. Once the new button is wired, press it down into place from the front of the top panel. These are snap-ins, so all you need to do is apply pressure. Make sure you have the buttons oriented how you want them (especially for the octagonal rims of the HBFS-30s) *before* you snap them into place.
6. Screw the bottom plate back into place

...and you're done! The whole process took me about 10 minutes.

I would guess it's a buyer who grabbed a bunch of the bags when they were 10 bucks and are now selling them for profit.

That's the bag I have, and since it's prime, it's covered by Amazon guarantee practices. I'd say there's no risk to trying.

I don't think this will store the Kai. I had to buy the bigger bag (SFxT) and that one fit perfectly.

Good point, I guess I'll give it a shot then since it seems like Capcom is no longer selling them. Since you own one, would you happen to know if a Kai would fit well inside it?

The TE2 barely fits in it. It zippers fine, but it's tight.

I don't have a Kai. What stick is about the same size? I can try for you when I get home tonight.

I'm actually not sure what other sticks are the same size, but I'd assume that the HRAP V4 would be similar. The dimensions for the Kai are listed here though: http://stores.horiusa.com/real-arcade-pro-4-kai-for-playstation-4/

Maybe we can compare them with your TE2 and check that way?

Yeah, apparently it's a couple inches bigger. I'll definitely buy from the Capcom store if I decide I need the SFXT bag, but if there's a shot that the smaller one could hold the Kai I'd much rather get that one.

It's a pretty tight fit, to be honest. If I remember once I get home, I'll take a picture.
 
I'm considering removing the top portion and the Viewlix plate to have the black painted area chromed when I get my Hori VLX. Anybody hear or see of anyone doing that with the original Viewlix? If so...please post pics.

Well I wouldn't be surprised if it is official. I think they would try to get more mileage out of the te2 design considering you can argue that they just came out for ps4.

I would be surprised, since SF5 is at least a year out and they just posted that they're taking feedback from the community for stick ideas.

But yeah, it's not official. It's nowhere but that one dude's twitter.
 
True, but I just don't think that mad catz can let go of the te2 design as quickly as you guys want.

They still want to monetize it as much as possible. They still haven't released the different colored side panels like they have for previous models.

The only thing that te2 is missing that other competitors have is the touchpad and assignable buttons.

I hope they do change it. This is just my opinion, but Hori's design looks much better at this point. The Kai is also a huge improvement over the HRAP4... plus the TOUCHPAD! THINK OF THE TOUCHPAD!
 
Serious question:

Harmonix has stated that your old Rockband guitars/drums/etc will work with Rockband 4 on XOne and PS4.

If this is happening, what's holding back our arcade sticks?

They've been using the TE2 for over a year now. By the time SF5 comes out, it'll be over two years. I mean, I don't want them to change, but Markman has been posting a lot about ideas from the community even before the SF5 announcement, so change is coming.

I think the TE2 is an amazing stick. The only thing that was going to get me to buy another PS4 stick was a VLX or a FE.

It has always, always, always, always been up to the developers. Always.
 
They do say in their announcement that they are "going back to the drawing board" and started "ground work" already....whatever that means. If it looks anything like TE2, I'll be highly disappointed again. Just my personal opinion.

Arcade stick makers need to make money.

It is interesting that Skullgirls is allowing it though.
 
That's not our SFV stick.

Also our new ones will have a lot of changes. That's awhile away from now though. :D

Thanks for the piece of mind. Please make the new ones look nice...as in Rolls Royce of arcade sticks nice this time around. Madcatz could've had my $600 I just spent on VLX's if Madcatz would've spent a little more time and thought on the TE2's look. I was a huge OG TE fan...was hoping for the 2014 version of it.

Yup, that's a pretty big one. There should be no excuse now that the voice chat standards have stabilized on both xb1 & ps4.

Touchpad obviously. Also the ease of access for modding is my favorite part of the te2,so I hope that stays. I also wish something like the Link was an industry standard. Ease of removing the joystick would help with bag choice.

My wish is that it's something modular. I wish mad catz had a program like Nike ID. Can you imagine not having to buy extra parts because you can choose the components you want right from the beginning? There would be no more bitching about design choices because it would be up to you.

The fg/arcade stick enthusiast community makes sense for this to work. Though I know resellers would be pissed. I can only dream.

Provided that the design of the body and individual parts that make it up are classy looking, I would totally eat this idea up. I would think Hori would be less likely to do something like this since they now make their own buttons and levers and only have 2 colors so far....all the more reason to consider this idea and get a leg up on the competition Mark/Madcatz.

FYI this is how my stick fits. Not quite perfectly...it's slightly loose but it matches the width. Plus the Velcro helps.

Awesome, thanks for taking the time to post a pic. Seems like it should fit just fine, and I didn't realize it had the velcro to help keep it in place so that's a plus. Just to double check, yours is the smaller bag, right? Not the SFXT one?
