BLOODBORNE Spoiler Thread (read OP)

Eh, not necessarily. I suppose if you've never played any action games such as Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, MGR:R and even God of War on top of the Souls games this might be true. But how many here have played one or more of the Souls games and none of the above listed franchises?

Your skills will carry over.

I think you're severely over-estimating the "Dark Souls but faster" statements. This will play NOTHING like those, and trying to play the game like any of those games is going to screw you over. The only way to think of this game is "Dark Souls with no shields and limited offensive ranged weaponry".

Apparently you haven't played many of those other games either. Since in most of them you can't block, and rely on dodging and offense. Sorry, but the game isn't going to be a system shock to most action/Souls gamers. And many people play without shields anyway. Unless of course the gameplay upon release is radically different than everything that's been shown so far...

They are the 9th wonder of the World.
I have a feeling that a few of us are going to stay up for at least 24 hours straight playing the hell out of this game. We need to know everything there is to know... to help our fellow GAF members when we go to invade, I mean join their games and "Aid" them.

Yes i am getting at 3 am GMT as the game unlocks on us psn at 4 am , going to have breakfast and a strong coffee first, i am planning to play about 24 hours with breakes here and there, my wife will provide drinks and food for me. The only thing i need to do is to provide the best day for my second half lol.

Are there any drawbacks to buying from the U.S. store if we're in the UK?
Earlier and cheaper sounds too good to be true, what's the catch?

No catch, it's as good as it sounds and it's really easy to do. I do it whenever possible

It's interesting that it unlocks earlier, normally they unlock at around 7-8am here iirc

It won't be a system shock to Souls gamers. Action gamers expecting to play like it's DMC, etc., though? Apples and oranges.

You really can't compare the souls games, or now bloodborne with hack 'n slash games like Ninja Gaiden or DMC.

Yeah, you really can if you're talking about reflexes and damage avoidance, especially on the higher difficulties. Have you even played Ninja Gaiden? All I said in my original post anyway was that your skills would carry over, not that the gameplay was identical or anything.

I said Devil May Cry, not DMC anyway. Again, it has nothing to do with them playing the same. I also said action/Souls gamer.

No catch whatsoever i have been doing that for over 2 years now. Prices of games in UK are way to high , so most of the times i would end up paying about $80 instead $60. Just create a secondary account with US psn and adress, set the console to be the main with that account , play games on your current account. Everything works dlc as well, just get them from the US region.

But attacking is completely different.

- Yamigiwa says that since completing the game the team has now able to play it. He says that they kinda feel like kids going back and forth asking one another if they went to this area and how did they beat this boss.

- The world for the most part is seamless. The one exception is the Hunters Refuge where you select specifically where you want to go.

- He says that there's no actual day/night cycle, but you may go to one map and it'll be in the evening and then if you go again it could be nighttime. The enemies in those locations and their placements will change depending on the time of day. But it won't change in real time.

- They've shown a lot of the cathedral area, but Yarnham is a vast place with many different areas. He says that there's a huge variety in the locations.

- As far as forming the Chalice Dungeons go, there are various types of Chalice's in the game. The one type they've shown off is the Tumell (?) Chalice, but he says that you may find a Tumell Chalice 2 or 3. There are also other Chalice's in the game. They all dictate different things. A different part of the dungeon, different enemy sets, different difficulties etc.

- You don't have any direct control over the creation of the dungeon itself. But depending on the chalice that you use along with the ingredients that you use to create it, you can get it to lean in a certain direction.

- They ask him if the New Game+ is back. He says that it is and you can go through it a second, third, fourth etc. time around. They ask if the difficulty increases and he laughs and says "Of course".

- They ask if the team feels the pressure from how highly anticipated it is. He says yes, but if they think about it too much they won't be able to get anywhere. His goal as a producer was just to allow From to make the type of game that they always make. It's not one targeted toward western or Japanese gamers, but to gamers in general. Since that comes through in the final product, they aren't worried.

From the other thread.

It looks rock solid so far from all the videos. And they said it's improving further after day one patch

Awesome, can't wait to play the game!

I've mastered all NG games (there's only 2) on master ninja, i've applied the same mentality on all souls games - going on offensive instead of relying on defense

Mentality wise they are the same games, gameplay they differ of course in their combat elements.

One thing to keep in mind is that doing so is tax evasion and illegal. There is likely no consequences however.

I've imported physical games from the states but this'll be my first full digital pre-order (I'm not waiting 3 days to play in in the UK).

Is pre-load still supported even though I'm in the UK (using a US account) and will all online aspects function as normal?

Yes , the pre load worked for my Destiny, Lords of the Fallen, Dragon Age I.
Edit: Played destiny for about 500 hours , dlc everything works fine, about Bloodborne there is an option that allows to match you with the same region or global.

Excellent. Thanks mate. Any word on when we can pre-load the game?

edit: That's good to know. I was wondering about matchmaking.

But attacking is completely different.

It's not completely different from the Souls games. Also, transforming weapons mid combo isn't that dissimilar to style switching in Devil May Cry 4 or the bow > hammer cancel in God of War 2.
Regardless, I'm not worried about my own transition to the game. Both Kevin VanOrd and the people from Edge and Eurogamer already commented on their own experiences.

Err, I've played loads of action games. They play in a completely different way to how souls games work. Just because you can't block doesn't mean it becomes a similar play style. For starters, souls games enemies react differently to being hit. You can't just combo stuff with no reaction from the enemy. Your window for attack is also way slower in souls games meaning it's really easy to leave your self open to stuff. In the nicest way possible, you sound like you have no idea what you're talking about. :/

I thought someone mentioned in here that time of day is story related?

Again, you're the one failing to understand here.

Compare it to whichever of them you would like. Again, apples and oranges.

Yep, because timing, reactions, feedback, pattern recognition and memory skills learned from those other games are apples to oranges and won't carry over. At all.
/ugh

This is about as stupid as when Dark Souls was released and people were claiming how utterly difficult it was, and some were even claiming it was so much more difficult than Demon's Souls. When it wasn't, unless you played Dark Souls first.

I'm also from EU and I wouldn't mind to buy the game on the US store since it comes out one day earlier.

problem is, I want to play it using my EU psn account. can I just buy and download the game with the US account and then play it with the EU one? Like I mainly want to get the *platinum* with my main account, which already has all the souls games platinums. :p

Got this from Reddit, some dialog that sounds like a great location, it may refer to the forbidden forest we know about.

Byrgenwerth is an old place of learning. The tomb of the gods, carved out below Yharnam, should be familiar to every hunter. Well, once a group of young Byrgenwerth scholars discovered a holy medium deep within the tomb. This led to the founding of the Healing Church, and the establishment of blood healing. In this sense, everything sacred in Yharnam can be traced back to Byrgenwerth. But today, the college lies deep within a tangled wood, abandoned and decrepit. And furthermore, the Healing Church has declared Byrgenwerth forbidden ground. It's unclear how many of its scholars remain alive... ...but only they know the password that allows passage through the gate.

yes, I do that all the time. All you have to do is set the US account to primary.

I see.

I also bought the CE, which is not the US version. will I have any problem if I start playing with the EU retail version after using the US one? I remember Demon's Souls having different save files and trophies for different versions of the game, but then again they used separated servers for that game, which is not the case here.

edit/

oh, also there is no problem with ps+, right? As long as I play it with the account that has it activated I suppose that it should work.

Just follow this, i can vouch for Borderlinx as well as thats the one i used.

It only takes about 20 minutes
didn't even know that something like Borderlinx existed. that's great, you don't know how many times I wanted to buy something from amazon.com but "oh noes, this product can't be shipped to your country".

also from what I've read you can't even preload this game on the EU store. fuck that, I'll buy the US version.

That was in the stream yesterday and is in that torrent of it, if you want to give a listen yourself. On mobile so I can't link to it.

Interesting additional info from a document just prior meeting that character:

Byrgenwerth is where the giant spider is

It isn't a system shock whatsoever if you have played Souls games before. It feels very familiar and you can get stuck in straight away, any habbits you picked up from the Souls games at first can screw you over though, but that doesn't last long. You have to approach Bloodborne more like a Souls game rather than the games mentioned in your previous post, in many hack'n'slash action games the focus is more on going big on combos to rack up the damage/score and dodge damage but you still have a decent amount of leeway. With Bloodborne even though the focus is on dodging damage rather than deflecting you can't just go balls to the wall as you have your stamina to look out for and enemies have different attack patterns depending in your proximity and the most basic can take you down in a few hits, you have combos that you can do but they are more along the lines of the back stab in that you need to use them at the correct point, if you run in and to try do combos like DMC or Ninja Gaiden whilst avoiding the attacks you will die very quickly, it is very much learning from your mistakes and taking your time but you are doing it at a faster pace.

Edit: With most hack'n'slash you usually have immediate reflexes, and very fast move sets, you don't have this in Bloodborne they are faster than Souls games but you are fully committed to the action you have triggered, this again is a very different mindset because you can't just dodge out mid swing.

Not sure how they manage save files from different versions. PS+ is no problem as long as you have it on the account you are playing with.
Only thing to keep in mind is that you have to buy DLC (if there's any) through the same shop as you brought the game.

Really? Sure looks like it is in Yharnam.
Maybe multiple or a different type? I was thinking the same, but it could be like how Dark Souls had the Firesage demon which was just another version of an earlier boss?

Has to at least be the fight location for that sort of beast since it was given a specific shout-out.

if they'll make any DLC(s) I'll just buy them for the EU version.
I'm really thinking that save files aren't compatible between those 2 versions though. if that's the case I guess it'll be like playing the game twice. if I get double trophies it wouldn't be so bad either lol.

in any case at this point I'm just going to buy it on the US store, I don't want to wait even more.

Eurogamer.pl which i'm assuming is their polish arm, just uploaded 13 minutes of direct feed gameplay. i'm on my vita so i can't provide a link. It looks to be near the start.

You can buy them very cheap, they'll be no harder to get than Lifegems.

The difference lies in having only 20 at a time, but even that is not that restrictive if even further away into the game enemies keep dropping vials all the time.

Estus is still the ideal system, imo, but I also liked the hybrid system in Dark II, and I also really enjoy the idea of being consumables only but limited to 20 just like Estus.

Maybe the fact that you can't upgrade it and it heals less than Estus, and also how much more aggressive enemies are will make up for it.

Previous souls games also tended to reward the 'avoid taking damage at all costs' strategy. I think BB is expecting more of a give & take with damage, so even if there is an abundance of healing items - it may not have as big of a 'making things easier' impact as it would in something like Dark Souls

You sir are a lucky man. That compromise with your wife is well worth it. So we have Nuszka, Yoshi and myself at least up powering through for the first 24 hours.

Any other crazy idiots on GAF that are going to contribute to the power playing 24-72 hour block?

Will add you guys on psn , but most likley i will be on party chat helping out fresh Souls players from my friendslist.

I will start playing sometime between 6am and 8:30am and probably rack up 12-16 straight hours with short breaks for health's sake, and then as many hours a day as I can manage. I'll add y'all on PSN
